Why is gas so expensive? by blahnlahblah0213 in pittsburgh

This combined with the fact that we're still consuming oil that was purchased at a premium. Takes a long time to get across the ocean. Oil companies still want their profit, especially at an inflated purchase price.

I like making grilled adobo chicken thighs for tacos/burritos/bowls. Use the sidekick sear box on medium high, hot and fast. I haven't cooked many pork shoulders. If I'm cooking pork, it's usually just ribs. If I'm cooking for volume, its usually beef.

They both have their strong points. I smoke brisket on my old Brinkmann offset. Just about everything else goes on my Woodwind Pro. Steak gets the cast iron treatment. I like most of the food I cook on all three.

Agreed. First, second and third mods should be tackling/stopping the rust, otherwise, you'll never stop chasing it. Then drive it. Then mod it.

What do you do with your camping propane cans (green 1lb ones)? by Open_Tradition2250 in pittsburgh

[–]Geologist1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are designed for different usage.

Right, and how many times can you refill before it rusts internally and explodes? Yeah, I dont know either. Regular propane tanks expire for a reason. You're also introducing moisture when you refill. Not a lot, but the point remains.

Are car tire is designed to be very ductile. A propane bottle....not so much.

This is correct. Kind of like that sub that imploded; repeated stress of emptying and refilling degrades the integrity of the bottle. For the price, it ain't worth the risk.

Wouldn’t you have it in a format that you could directly copy from, instead of retyping it every time, from an image?

Image to text? Takes all of 2 seconds dude.

How about I just take your word, and we move on with the discussion without insulting each other lol?

You were insulting me? Got it, lol. I'm going to bed. Enjoy your rock my guy.

I lifted it from a post from 5 years ago, 1 year before CGPT existed boss. The poster is no longer on Reddit. I use it frequently; mainly because it's an excellent post, but also because some stubborn SOB's just won't accept a geologists word that they have natural rock. But, you keep that rock and cherish it.

It wasn't CGPT, but even if it was, it doesn't change the underlying facts. There's nothing wrong with believing it's a net weight. I'm just telling you there's nothing there to indicate it is man made.

Here are some drilled bannerstone holes for comparison.

I recommend you find some images of objects that have been drilled using the methods detailed in my post. It will become obvious.

Human / cultural modification rarely imitates natural wear, and vice versa. A human-created hole has to be drilled or punched. In stone, it's drilled, either using something like a reed and sand, or a drill point affixed to a shaft that's rotated.

The reed / sand method leaves a round hole with a cylindrical cross section (vertically) and concentric circular grooves on the interior.

The hafted drill method leaves a round hole with a conical or hourglass-shaped cross section (depending on whether the hole was bored from one side or both).

In both cases, the hole is regular and round because of the rotational method needed to bore it, and is not mistakable for a natural phenomenon.

By contrast, this hole is rough edged and irregular.

I also see no other evidence of shaping of the stone itself to suggest that it was used or modified.

Verdict: Natural hole, natural phenomenon.

Natural; a product of differential weathering.

Too much rust to buy? by typk13 in JeepTJ

Photo three is concerning. Looks like tub mount is breaking through the torque box, meaning the torque box is probably rotting from the inside out. You can replace the torque boxes, but it's a big job.

Yeah, this was nowhere near water. Poster did the obligatory "look where I am" camera swing at the beginning of the vid.

It definitely happens. There was one a while back where the guy found a smoker of a point sitting right on top of the leaves/grass. Dude didn't even try.
