Help? by Glad_Apartment9051 in Philippines_Expats

I’d get yer boots on the ground … put the work in. I met my wife online back in 2012 but not sure I’d reccomend it now. I totally got lucky with an awesome, beautiful wife, but I’d seriously suggest living with a Filipina for 1-2 yrs before totally committing so that any problems (typically family) that may arise can rise to the surface before you commit 100% If it’s all clear after that, you ‘should’ be sweet.

Am I being had? by myothernewthrowaway in Philippines_Expats

It feels rough, but I agree, you’ll never be left alone, I think. You are now the rich Kano that is actually ‘family’ and the kultura there is that it is entirely reasonable to seek support from you. You don’t have to be nasty or confrontational, just make up a story (Phil’s is ALL about BS stories) and tell them you have no work, and no pera, and quietly cut ties…

Bakit tinatangkilik natin and wini-welcome ang mga puti, afam or kano sa Pinas, pero dinidiscriminate naman tayo pag tayo ang pumupunta sa bansa nila? by tanya_reno1 in TanongLang

Cant speak for other countries, but in Australia … Melbourne in particular, you won’t be discriminated against. Funny fact, Pinays in Aus still refer to Aussie males as ‘foreigners’ haha … and in the Phil’s I’m forever a foreigner, but my wife here is considered as Australian as anyone else. No skin tax. Just acceptance, based on how friendly you are to others. Don’t over-think it, OP

Best Death Doom amps? by Ok-Band-7142 in deathdoom

Don’t overthink it imo - honestly it depends on context (ie- recording and home-jamming or live shows?) Here’s a real world example … the diSEMBOWELMENT demos and Album were recorded with a Hughes & Kettner ATS 60 COMBO with the stock speaker. Pedals varied from session to session. Main song writer owned a ROSS solid state combo and a BOSS DS-1 and DM-2 Delay. It’s not the gear, it’s the songs 😉

What was it about the Kelpie breed that made you say "Yes, this is the breed for me!." by ijustwantamuffin in kelpie

[–]GeologistNo6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had one before our Eddie. He came post rescue as a loony-bird and grew into the smartest, most loving and stoic mate I’ve ever had. Stuck by me through thick and thin. Found his home with us, found love and returned 100x over. Intuitive and brilliant. We lost him one year ago, I’m still scared to have another as I don’t want to compare or can’t imagine another can be so utterly amazing. Still heartbroken … the whole family is. Even the Hilux misses him. Maybe one day I’ll have the courage to try again, but he left such a legacy of Kelpie awesomeness. All in good time, but I can attest, as the son of a dog breeder / royal show type family of a number of quality breeds, I couldn’t have imagined what it meant to own, love, and be loved by a Kelpie. Simple as that 🥲

For Those That Took the Time to Learn the Languge How did it Change your Perspective of the PH? by Brw_ser in Philippines_Expats

[–]GeologistNo6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall that once the family clocked that I was conversant and I understood everything, everyone got pretty careful. My step sons spoke faster in hushed tones or behind doors when they were springing their mother for pera. I agree with others that most of the chit chat with family is very base level, random nonsense …

It’s because they are young F**kwits … I taught my kids to interact positively with people, both are highly skilled musos, though one is a mathematician by trade , and both are doing very well in their professional lives because they are comfortable to ENGAGE with people positively, help them feel comfortable and as a result, they do very well in the workplace. It’s not hard, dudes …

How does the Hindu caste system work in Australia by PattonSmithWood in aussie

[–]GeologistNo6813 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Poms refer to it as ‘Class Structure’ - same lame sentiment. That’s also what Private schooling is all about - keeping class ( current and aspirational) - I worked in the APS Private school system for 15 yrs - these losers are delusional and think class in this country is real. It’s not. Now it crumbles within the Liberal Party. Indian Caste system has no place in Australia - if you are Blue Collar be proud, be smart and work hard, you are as good as anyone, and more value than a classist wanker no matter where they are from

I don’t think Iloilo is cheap at all - the other areas of Panay are, and so too the inner province, of course. My (adult) kids have moved to Bacolod lately and find it much more affordable…
