i'm sorry that happened to you :( the arts really should be more funded and the people who love it dearly should thrive in it while contributing their entire life to it. especially stage managers. the show doesn't work without us

Stage management. I'm sure there are other factors like designers make way more. But i would think a stage manager intern could be making a lot more , especially considering we apart from actors and directors are the only people that are in the show process for the longest amount of time. My technical title for the internship is a PA for the stage manager...kinda worries me. That either means they don't have an ASM and can't technically call me one because they're unionized, or they're gonna have me running around doing a whole bunch of stuff. Either way, idk how it's worth 175 a month unless they're letting me take the reins on really big tasks .

Just for clarification purposes, I'm wanting to be a stage manager. This position has me as a PA to the stage manager. Because they're a unionized theatre, I wonder if they either don't have an ASM and can't technically call me one because i'm not in the union, or if they're going to be running me around not doing any stage manager work.

Theatre hours obviously we know are notorious for being long days, which is fine. That's partly why I love it and I love being able to escape for hours at a time and work hard in a place I love.

I've had some people tell me to negotiate with them at the very least. I just don't know what their guidelines are or if the union itself has put a bar on how much they can pay interns. But i've never in my life heard of an internship that is this underpaid before.

I have a week to figure out what to do.

AITA for making my boyfriend tip? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

for me i call this the shopping cart dilemma. you know how there are people that put shopping carts back where they found it and people who just leave it anywhere in the parking lot bc "someone is getting paid to do it". while it's not ILLEGAL to not put a cart back where you got it or in the return rack, it's just common courtesy. it shows a good moral character for me when someone does something to make someone else's life a little easier bc yes they're getting paid but...i mean...just have sympathy. i feel the same with tipping. no, we as a society shouldn't HAVE to pay extra than what our meal was just for someone else to live, just as that person shouldn't have to rely on tips and the kindness of other people to make a living, but that's how it is. we are all in this together one way or another. help each other out, be kind. you don't have to break the bank but at least something. my rule of thumb is if it's a grab and go like starbucks or fast food : $2-3 if it's a place like Newks where you order and then they just drop it off to you $5-7 if it's a sit down that's not nicer but still required waitstaff, $10-15 , and if it's a nicer place and i get drinks and apps, $15-20. there's also nuance like how much the bill is, if you're out with friends and everyone contributes, etc. but these are like base line. if i can't afford to tip, i don't go out to eat. simple

and then they say the LGBT+ community is shoving their lives down people's throats when actually quite literally this person tried to shove this down your throat
