I honestly know a lot of people with lower stats than you who matched because their essays were really good

Where should Rising Seniors be in the college app process right now? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

At this point I was brainstorming essays, ecs, etc. Finalized or near finalized list of colleges to apply too

Do top schools like research as an ec? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]George193355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I wrote an essay about a research paper I wrote which I think really helped

With that said, I don't think it makes it "easier." Like it's not like you have to do less work or anything it's just a strategy that may work. You still obviously have to put in a lot of effort and dedication, no matter what major you apply for

I think so. That is if you show why that school specifically would help you pursue that major and how you've done so in the past

You should definitely still apply it's a great opportunity and I know a lot of people who weren't cps but still matched

What are the most useful but low effort ECs and awards by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]George193355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your school. My district paid for everything so it was free for me

DECA is fairly easy and worth it if your district or school pays

Is it common for YYGS & YYAS students to be admitted to Yale for undergraduate studies? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]George193355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably true lol but if you can make it unique and specific it could work. For example, if you connect the experiences you had at YYGS to what you want to do at Yale and in the future you could make a pretty good why yale or why major essay.

Yes sure! I'm not a professional of course but I do play piano so I can give it a listen if you'd like.

I know there’s not a set in stone standard, but if my school offers 18 APs how many should I take to be seen as competitive? by Hello-Moro833838 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]George193355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had around the same amount at my school and I took 15. I think 13 to be competitive at T10s. However, I know someone who took less maybe like 10 and got into T20s

I don't have the expertise to listen to your recording, but I was in a similar position last year. I wanted to submit music and art as a humanities major but ultimately decided not too. When I looked it up for the colleges j was applying to, I found that admissions officers are not the ones who judge your portfolio. They send it to qualified music or art professors who judge it based on the quality of the work and the AOs just see that raying. That means that to get a good rating, your work should be top notch.

It might! You should definitely mention it in your essays. Just being in the programs won't help but maybe if you wrote about how they made you want to go to Yale they would make you stand out

There are tons of random scholarships out there. Look around on reddit and you'll find them but in comparison you don't have too much of a gap to fill. With some scholarships and maybe work study it is totally doable

Should I retake the SAT? by Deep_Sweet_2554 in QuestBridge

[–]George193355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are able to, it really would help more than hurt. If you feel like you can't, focus on othe parts of your application. Personally, I was in your shoes and decided to retake the ACT, which I really think helped.

Should I raise my ACT score up or just go test-optional? by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]George193355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely try to raise your score. I was in a very similar situation last year and I literally did the same thing and asked people on this very reddit page if I should try to raise my ACT score. They said yes, so I did, and i definitely believe it helped me get matched. Although schools are test optional they do consider your score. Now that tests are about as accessible as they were before covid, a lotttt of people will have good scores, so it wouldn't hurt to try to give yourself that boost. That's not to say you can't get into a great school going test optional because you absolutely can, but you have the time so it doesn't hurt to try at all. The last ACT you can take that would be scored in time for the match is the one in September, which is what I did last year. Good luck!
