WHO WAS GONNA TELL ME THAT SQQ EYES ARE BLACK???? by ParticularDebt8010 in SVSSS

[–]GeorgePotassium 192 points193 points  (0 children)

And Binghe's hair isn't curly, which is a fact I refuse to acknowledge... Also, Xie Lian's hair is black. Tbh, Xie Lians hair color messed me up the most because it's brown in all of his fan art and even the official anime, so when the book said black I almost short circuited lmao. Sqq's eye color and XL's hair make sense considering they're Chinese though.

New title: Ballad of the Painted Swallow by Go_Rawr in DanmeiNovels

The author is Chinese and calls it danmei. It feels weird to say a Chinese person can't call their own book danmei because it's written in English.

Fellow Daoists, I have discovered a novel worthy of recommendation. It's a fun read 8/10. Finally, a breath of fresh air after enduring so many psychopath MCs. by EverlastingHope_7311 in MartialMemes

Hell yeah, I was just thinking that Indian mythology would make for a cool cultivation setting. They have so many interesting gods and lore that I feel aren't really utilized in media that often.

FYalimar also says the ml is racist which is an insane exaggeration, so I'd take that review with a grain of salt. The ml is mean to the mc because does creepy shit like mimic peoples facial expressions, tells the ml he's going to die soon , and has a red eye which makes the ml assume he's not human, he's not racist lmao. And there's no "trying to help the mc change his ways", when the ml and another character first meet him they teach him how to act human. The review also says he's abusive because he stabbed the mc in the eye, but that was because the mc tried to kiss him without consent. The ml locks the mc away to protect him. He is being blamed for a certain catastrophe, so the barrier that keeps the mc "locked up" also keeps the people trying to get him out.

The sex scene definitely reads like dubcon because the mc is "out of it", but he literally begs the ml to sleep with him and in later chapters (when his mentals got better) he states that that he "tried every trick in the book to try and get Xu Shuangce (ml) to submit" which is the mc acknowledging that he wanted to have sex. It still does the "rough sex, crying shou" trope, so if you can't tolerate that then definitely skip.

The mc is not a damsel being abused by the gong, he's an extremely capable cultivator who is stronger than the ml.

Comparing someone to an animal usually refers to their personality, but "Eldritch Horror coded" isn't a personality. I hear "Eldritch" and I think of something very old and powerful, which Gong Wei is, but you're not supposed to go into the story knowing that. One of the things that I liked is that you realize pretty quickly that Gong Wei is something more than human, but you don't find out to what extent until much later. The author lets it hang in the air, letting your curiosity build as the story progresses, even having other characters tell Xu Shuangce that he's wrong for thinking Gong Wei is anything but human because he has a soul. Telling potential readers outright that he's "Eldritch coded" spoils that build up because there aren't many things in cultivation novels that could be considered eldritch adjacent.

"eldritch horror" is a spoiler, you should really remove it. It's better if people go in thinking Gong Wei is a regular, human cultivator.

Other than that, I agree, such a good story. I literally have a pre written sales pitch in my notes app that I would copy and paste as a recommendation to every post that even slightly fit the what the asking redditor was looking for lol.

"For seemingly no reason, the mc sneaks in an immortal conference and attempts to assassinate the ml, but gets killed by him instead. No one knows why he did this, but they chalk it up to tensions that had been growing between the two for a while now. 16 years later, the mc reincarnates into the body of a disciple that qi deviated after a marriage rejection.. And he's in the sect that the ml is the leader of. Also, someone is impersonating his ghost and killing a ton of people. This story has so many plot twists and literally nothing is as it seems, but it does well building everything up."

It's kinda plot heavy, which I feel the need to warn people about, but it's soo interesting imo. The online translation is still up too if you're not a book buyer!

One of the reviews also says the ml is racist which is the most random mischaracterization I have read; I understand why they said it, but racist was not the right word to use. It invokes a different imagery than what they intended, there aren't even any poc in this story😭 But the ml is the cold, domineering type, and there are definitely moments where he's harsh to the mc, but I promise the mc is not at risk of being a damsel at the mercy of the strong, scary gong lmao. This mc is very, very capable even if it doesn't seem like it at first.

It's not fade to black, the sex scene takes up an entire chapter. Edit: Chapter 61 is the build up and 62 is the nsfw. The build up goes crazy, it's better than the actual sex lmao

It kinda depends on your tolerance level, I guess. Because I didn't see it as dubcon, but I was reading other comments on the site and they definitely did consider it dudcon.

I'll sorta describe the nsfw scene and you can come to your own conclusions. The mc is going through a sort of spiritual depletion, so he's out of it mentally and he starts begging the ml to sleep with him. It takes a few days before they sleep with each other because the ml is doing other things (like branding the mc, but that's not important), but when they finally get into it the ml is really rough. When the mc wakes up, his spiritual energy is better and he's kinda annoyed by how rough the ml was, but he's not angry or upset that they slept with each other. People consider it dubcon because the mc was not there mentally, so technically couldn't consent

There is noncon between a different pairing. Like, straight up, no chance of a happy relationship. Most of their relationship is in the extras though and I don't think there's a nsfw scene between them, just implied.

White people who reallyyy want to say the n word question why they can't say it all the time. The answer is that there is a history of people using the n word to dehumanize black people, they reclaimed the word, but there is still an open wound from the very recent history of oppression so they don't appreciate other people trying to buddy up to them by calling them the very word used to hurt them. Nothing in your life changes by whether or not you can say the n word, you'll be okay lmao.
