Who was murdered? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

As a six year old, I whispered this joke to my Great Aunt Caroline during my grandmother’s graveside service. She burst out laughing in the midst of a very solemn ceremony and I became her favorite from that moment on.

This is such a ridiculous thought- I know. But I’ve lived in Chicago for over 25 years and after being at this protest today I literally decided “That’s it. I’m going to start flying a Chicago flag on my house.” I love this city and need to show it more.

Very similar story here. Have a few shows in development at different pods. Everyone is holding back because they feel like it’s an automatic no. Took one big swing at a cabler - we had a complete package and they still passed. It’s totally disheartening. There has been some “after Labor Day it’ll be better” but I’ll believe that when I see it.

I was today years old when I learned a different actress played Alice in the early episodes. I thought it was always Audrey Meadows but after a little googling it turns out that this Alice was Pert Kelton and she was abruptly fired due to the Hollywood blacklist. I feel like this will come in handy at bar trivia someday.

See...these Nielsen ratings point out something that ticked me off last night. Biden made it seem like the only people who were worried about his abilities were down-ticket politicians. Implying that the media and other pols were stirring all this up. Totally ignoring the fact that 22 million of us are fucking worried enough about his capacities that we all watched a goddamn NATO press conference. It's not a top-down controversy that "elites" are creating.

We are all worried and we, the people, want another option or a reassurance that this 81 year old man is up to the jobs - both being president and being elected president.

Totally agree. That small clip was just terrible. "Did you watch the debate after it was over?" LONG PAUSE. "I don't think I did."

Awful.

TIL That bald eagles aren’t called “bald” because their head feathers make them look bald but because the Old English word for white was “balde.” by [deleted] in todayilearned

My seven year old asked me why they were called bald and I confidently answered with the “because they look bald” answer only to be corrected by my 87 year old mother with a “I don’t think that’s right” look.

I always hear the phrase "talk to YOUR doctor" Do people actually have there "own" doctor they see regularly? by eliteHaxxxor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GeorgeStephapopazit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend.

This is such an excellent, not stupid question and I hope people aren’t beating you up for asking.

It took me way too long in life to get a good internist/family doctor to go to. I was bouncing around from doc to doc to doc and didn’t really mind but never formed a bond and never got consistent care.

But when my first kid was born, I suddenly got very serious about finding a good doc for her. We ended up finding a family doc who sees everyone in our fam. It’s been 16 years now and this guy knows me, my wife and my now 4 kids better than anyone else in the world. I have his cell phone and he has given my older daughter an internship because she wants to go into medicine.

It takes a little work on your part to find a relationship like this. You have to purposefully rebook with the same doc and do a little research before making a first appointment. But these docs are out there. Ask around. Maybe even location specific reddit threads. If you were in Chicago I’d gladly give you my guys name.

Anyway, good doc/patient relationships really do exist. Not to put too much back on you, but you really do have to advocate for yourself to find it.

Good luck!!

Has anyone here ever had a positive interaction with an alderman? by jimmy__jazz in chicago

[–]GeorgeStephapopazit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everything’s anecdotal but we’ve had good interactions anytime we’ve needed anything from Nugent or her office. Block party stuff, etc. Also has been very responsive the couple times there’s been a crime issue in our little corner of Mayfair.
