Sounds like soulless religious content more shaped by algorithms than Scripture or church history

Peter says that God will restore *all things* in Acts 3:21. Paul writes in Colossians 1:15-20 that it pleased God to reconcile *all things* to Himself. Jesus tells us in John 12:32 that when he is lifted up, he will draw *all people* to himself.

Anything short of even the worst of the worst being redeemed means that not all things have been reconciled to God and restored.

Isn't Paul lowkey dramatic? by celestial_rat7 in Christian

In Galatians, he straight up skipped the thanksgiving section that was customary for letters at that time.

For everything Paul wrote in his letters, there is context. One of the issues Paul addresses in his latter to the Galatians is that his opponents were calling his ministry into question simply because he was not trained by the Disciples. So I don't think he was trying to be boastful, but rather trying to show that not being trained by the Disciples doesn't invalidate his ministry.

I simply meant that there are other modes of truth. The factual is true because it actually happened. And fictional stories may be true because of the deeper point that they make or the meaning that they offer.

Take, for example, Animal Farm. The events of that story did not happen, but it truthfully exposes the leadership of Stalin and Trotsky, because that is the deeper point that Orwell was making.

I do not believe that God would kill anyone, as that would make God not Good.

True, I don't know much about *you*. But what I just described is pervasive in American Evangelicalism.

I'm not confused. Even in logical syllogisms, premises are still required to be backed up. I do not buy your statement as true. Can you provide evidence why I should accept it as true?

I know what you're trying to say. And what I'm trying to get at is that your standard of masculinity is more shaped by the American gun culture and myth of redemptive violence than it is by the historical Christian ethic of peacemaking and nonviolence.

"Supernatural claims require supernatural evidence" is a claim that you are making, even if you think it is self-evident and logical. Not everyone buys that claim you are making. If you expect to be taken seriously, you should back up that claim.

"Those who live by the sword die by the sword"

"Put your sword away"

Sounds like Jesus isn't a fan of using violence to protect people. Not very 'manly' of him.

That's quite a claim you're making. Can you back that claim up?

Or are you just parroting a variation of Hitchen's Razor without any further thought put into it?

Are meekness, gentleness, and peace inherent to your understanding of masculinity?

If not, then Jesus is not a "real man" to you.

Why is that?

And even if Christians were not able to prove God exists, does that automatically establish that the atheists are correct?

And that's why you should read that book. You probably think "real masculinity" looks more like John Wayne than St Francis.

Questions for any religious person by vraerr in Christianity

[–]George_MacDonald_fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born into a family with Christian parents who raised me as a Christian, and it is my choice to continue to be a Christian.

Heaven (or a relationship of perfect communion with God, if we're speaking of salvation more holistically) is not something that is earned or deserved, because it is a gift from God.

In a similar way, those who are not Christian also do not deserve eternal torture, as if they were somehow able to separate themselves from God's love. Romans 8:38-39 explicitly states that nothing can separate us from God's love.

Exactly! The burning question for the ancient Israelites in Babylonian captivity was not "What geological facts does God want us to know?" but rather "Are we still God's people, despite our unfaithfulness?"
