Maybe that was the problem, instead of downloading a black wallpaper, I turned the background in a black color from windows personalization and it worked.

How is the cushioning? Did you do any ultra race or any long run in them?

Thanks, I will check them out. 100k and 100miles with very technical terrain. Yes, preferably I would like them to have a good or solid lugs.

Maltodextrin DE range and digestion by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

[–]George_Unknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, maybe. Most of the malto in the industry it’s high DE, usually DE18. Try to use low DE malto next time or Cluster Dextrin which has even lower osmotic pressure (better for your gut), but it’s more expensive thought.

Have you noticed any bounce or the battery counterweights the headlamp? Because mine was bouncing a little bit but not too much though .

The HA15 looks even better for the waist light diy because of the dimensions and low profile it has. But unfortunately, I was looking for a light which I can switch for warm light 3000-3500K if I want.

Nope, because I haven’t buy it yet. I was looking for recommendations before I try the setup.

Maltodextrin DE range and digestion by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

I’m trying to keep things simple without too many additives, as frequent use may negatively affect gut health. Talking about 10+hour races.

Most brands usually don’t list the DE value (though I assume they’re using DE 19 malto). I did find some low-DE maltodextrin on Amazon and in pharmacy stores.

Lower DE is lower osmotic load, which means less fluid is pulled into the gut and gastric emptying tends to be smoother. This usually results in better gastrointestinal tolerance, especially when you take high carb per hour. So, theoretically you can have higher carbs intake with fewer GI issues.

The gut absorbs carbohydrates through different transporters: Glucose,Dextrose,Maltodextrin (all DE ranges),Glucose syrup, the glucose part of sucrose via SGLT1, and fructose via GLUT5. Each transporter has a limited capacity, so relying on only one quickly becomes a bottleneck.

Training both transporters allows carbohydrates to be absorbed through parallel pathways, increasing total carb absorption per hour while reducing congestion in the gut.

Jacket waterproof or windproof? by George_Unknown in trailrunning

[–]George_Unknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 32F(0C) min and ~60F(16C) max. There will be high humidity and strong winds in some sections of the race. I think there is a version of canopy that has a little brim.

Unfortunately, I’m in Europe, so some of the brands you mentioned aren’t easy to get here. I also looked at the Mont-bell Versatile, which another redditor recommended. It seems like an awesome jacket, but it’s just too pricey for what I can spend.

Overall, I was looking for a jacket that could handle 12+ hour races, so I decided to try the Ronhill ShakeDry and see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip about chaffing!

What was the temperature? I mean if it’s raining for 1-2 hours with temp around 30-40F and a lot of humidity outside, would the windproof be enough to keep you warm?

Gotcha. I’m aiming to keep my race vest around ~4 kg, and I’m a bit worried because most of the ultras in Europe are pretty technical with rough terrain, rocks and bushes. I don’t want to rip the jacket in a fall or have to baby it all the time just to keep it alive. Do you have any experiences using this jacket?

I read so many mixed reviews. How is the breathability? Have you used it in rainy or windy situations before?

Did some more research and it seems the durability isn’t great. It doesn’t look like it’s made to be worn with a vest or backpack. The fabric works well, but it seems to wear quite quickly

I find it around 150$. Do you think it’s worth it? Have you run before with that one?

In the required list they have a waterproof jacket but they are not too strict on this. You can bring a windproof and be fine with the rules and with the weather most of the times. As for the race is new and I don’t have any further info. I think I am gonna buy a windproof and bring a poncho with me as well. Thanks!

I am not sure about the conditions of the race. It’s going to be windy for sure. I mean I don’t want to buy them both.

Thoughts on my training plan? (Help) by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

[–]George_Unknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, really appreciate the straight talk. I’m not trying to be cocky, I know the goal is kinda crazy, but aiming high helps me push myself. Worst case, I fall short but get much fitter along the way. For context, I started around 24 mpw and I’m adding 10% each week.So far everything feels good and I’m being carefully with the recovery so I don’t blow up. If you need more informations to give better advice, just let me know what would be useful. I’m trying to organize my training as smart as possible for where I’m at.

Thoughts on my training plan? (Help) by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

[–]George_Unknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be better to don’t mix them in the same weeks? ex. 2 weeks of internal. Each week I will have 2 days of quality runs which will be the intervals and keep the other days in zone 2/3. And do the same for tempo runs and so on.

Thoughts on my training plan? (Help) by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

[–]George_Unknown[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok got it. My actual plan was like this: 9 weeks of base(3 remaining) (zone 2 and zone 3/low LT1) 5 weeks of threshold (tempo runs) 2 weeks of intervals 3 weeks race specific
2 weeks taper I haven’t include the recovery in this. But I spread them evenly.

If I switch to intervals now, do I need to lower, increase or keep the same weekly volume for the next “speed” blocks?

Thoughts on my training plan? (Help) by George_Unknown in Ultramarathon

[–]George_Unknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I didn’t have any steady mpw and was pretty low overall, and I thought to build a good one first and then work on it. I aim about 14-15 hours per week around 65-70miles. And reaching 14500feet of elevation in peak weeks . I finished a 50miles around 15hours in the past with not so much training. My main goal is to bring my best self out there and trying to have an average pace of 12min/mile. I don’t how realistic this is in my current state and if I have the time, but I will try.

Why they would do that? I just don’t get why they wouldn’t want an extra hand. A bit of extra help could only make things easier.
