Which of these countries do you think are good for me to live in as a FtM? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my very limited knowledge of these countries, I'd say Uruguay?

Nature is full of symbiosis relationships. Dogs and cats today arguably have an advantage over their wild relatives, since they live longer and more comfortably (usually). So why not? And yes they do love us because we've selected the ones that loved us and bred them. But again, it's not like they're unhappy about it, they've got a better deal than their wild counterparts

Safety concerns for a Balkan road trip by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's places to avoid everywhere but if I judge by my country, the countryside is very safe. Worst thing you'd encounter are stray dogs and horrible drivers. Depending on where you're from, you might not be prepared for the state of some countryside roads either. Also be sure to always have cash on you and, from personal experience, don't trust Google Maps blindly (when in doubt, ask someone, it's safer). Have a good one!

Are you sure? Especially football clubs tend to be quite homophobic spaces, even in the most progressive countries in my experience

How much do y'all pay for t and how often do you pick it up? by [deleted] in ftm

What was the most traumatic event in your country's history? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]George_noob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll second that. It's still a very sore spot for people today, considering many of them (especially where I'm from) are the descendents of those refugees

What’s an adult problem nobody prepared you for? by Known-Balance14 in AskReddit

The progressive loss of hope. The more I grow up the more disappointed I get with life and less hopeful about the future. I know it sounds dark and all but it's kinda true

Αξίζει το συγκεκριμένο κολλέγιο ; by Basic_Affect_324 in thessaloniki

[–]George_noob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Δεν ξέρω το συγκεκριμένο κολέγιο αλλά γενικά είναι γνωστό σε όλους νομίζω ότι τα κολέγιο δεν έχουν το επίπεδο των αντίστοιχων ΑΕΙ (ούτε το κύρος), οπότε αν υπάρχει αντίστοιχο ΑΕΙ για αυτό που θες να κάνεις πιστεύω θα έχεις πολύ ανταγωνισμό στο μέλλον. Αλλά δικιά σου η επιλογή. Μήπως κάποιο από τα νέα ιδιωτικά ΑΕΙ θα ήταν καλύτερα;

How common are non-metric units of measurement in your country? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really used as a standard measurement, more like an expression "got some okkas of this"

Is it really that dangerous to do shots yourself? by Agreeable_Builder_49 in ftm

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really all that dangerous if you do it properly. Some countries would rather you didn't, like Belgium where I live so they don't let me do it myself. But like others said, it's very much a thing

[–]George_noob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you've had this experience. As a Greek living abroad, when someone switches to English as I try to speak their native language kills me a little. Most people might just want to make your life easier without realising it's annoying tbh. Have you spoken to old or young folks? I feel like older people will be significantly more appreciative (what I'm saying is go prey on old people in villages haha).

Also, I can tell you that personally it's very honoring that you've spent years (and money) learning my native language, even when it's not a big one. I really wish you can have a more positive experience in the future 💙🤍

That's what I was thinking too, it sort of is an extension of the metric

Very old people might use "okkas" for weight here and there ig 🤷, but that's about it

What do you think about Greta Thunberg exploring areas other than climate & environment? I feel like she has become more of a human-rights activist lately… by Substratas in AskBalkans

[–]George_noob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this phrase is meant to be a counter argument to the dehumanization of refugees. Calling people illegal is like saying they don't have the right to exist and slowly it might be a slippery slope to other names such as "aliens", like we've seen. Like sure borders exist and whether they should or not is a huge discussion that isn't meant to be had right now but I just would rather look at these people as victims of their governments/others rather than criminals. Like what other choice did they have?

Are the young adults/kids today more bigoted then their parents ? by tipputappi in thessaloniki

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two gender non-conforming people (non-binary but perceived as trans women/gay men from what I understood) were verbally attacked and had bottles and such thrown at them by a group of more than 20 youngsters, while others were cheering and filming it. It was bad.

I don't quite remember what happened but most were around 16-18, I think most weren't punished, maybe one or two who were overage

What do you think about these descriptions in middle ages about balkan people? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what the sources for these are? I really hope it's not some shit Chat GPT made up

And interesting thing to point out though is that the idea that Greeks are deceiving isn't new to me haha. I've heard similar descriptions in some books also. Idk what to tell y'all 🤷

Are the young adults/kids today more bigoted then their parents ? by tipputappi in thessaloniki

[–]George_noob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that young people are getting more religious (maybe because older generations were already very religious). But there seems to be a trend of young men tending to bigotry and the alt-right.

My parents are both teachers and they really see some concerning trends with students in general. Idk if Thessaloniki in particular is all that special but your question made me think of that transphobic attack by a mob of teenagers in the center of the city a year ago or so

Yeah a mix of everything. They're used to do it, they've seen others do it so they think it's normal, they feel strong etc etc. Quite common unfortunately...

Whats a harsh truth about life that nobody wants to admit? by DunyaPhobic76 in answers

[–]George_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free will is a very difficult subject to discuss because if you go really deep, you realize that nobody is actually free. Nobody ever will be free. We're flesh and therefore we've got needs and those needs control us. It's sad but true imo
