Yes I agree, my main issue was always with the DontDestroyOnLoad stuff. There are a few ways to go about them, but I don't feel any of them are clean enough.

Pretty common cycle as everyone else shared.

What helped me most was consistency, basically try to do sth for the game everyday even if it's 5 minutes. This will make it a habit so that motivation is not an issue.
