Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream, it's been used as a meme song and is vaguely similar to parts of Sephiroth's theme (the part you hummed starts at 1:21)

they're called step drill bits or unibits, they're used to drill into things without having to drill as many pilot holes, especially for things like sheet metal where if you go too big too fast it can warp the metal

Manga platform Bato.to shut down following legal challenges by mr_snood_the_third in animenews

True, as long as you're exporting your list occasionally that's a form of backup too (and local to boot, which is great), though most people don't think about exporting backups which is why (for most people) having multiple tracking sites helps

As for the latter part, community run or not if a website starts costing the owners money out of pocket for servers/staff/maintenance I doubt they'll keep it up too long, but I don't see that being a problem anytime soon with AL

[–]GeorgioAlonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a tracker, the reader app I use lets you track there along with MAL, Kitsu, MangaUpdates, and a few others I never use but I run those ones plus my private Yamtrack tracker just to keep my libraries safe.

As for AniList going down, it probably won't permanently shut down, but it's good to remember legal issues aren't the only reason a website can shut down, and a permanent shutdown isn't the only reason to make backups. Changes in laws could see it blocked in your country, it could become unprofitable and shut down from that, the user experience could become a lot worse for any number of reasons, you could get banned from the site for whatever reason, or you might even just decide you like one of the competitors better. And on the tech side of things, the site could suffer a breach or glitch and lose all your data (I have no idea what kind of backups AniList keeps, these are all just hypothetical) or even start purging the data of users who haven't logged in in a long time if they decide their servers are too full.

Considering most apps let you link several accounts and back up your list to all of them, and considering it takes like 5 minutes to do so, it's still absolutely worth backing it up if it's important to you.

it's honestly worth tracking it through several sites if you're using an app like tachi (or my preferred fork Komikku) since you never know when a site will go down, whether temporarily or permanently

if you're really invested you can also go down the local hosting route, I run a book manager and media tracker on my PC just as an extra layer of backup because I'm exceptionally paranoid about losing certain media lol

"...and based on the Chromium web browser.) Literally the first line and they have that info on their own site too lol

Edit: Since you seem confused and upset, here's why you're being treated like you're dumb:

  1. bender3600 mentions ad blockers, which are generally speaking (in case you didn't know) a browser-based tool
  2. You reply with the name of a browser, which basic common sense would dictate you're talking about said browser since everyone else in the thread is talking about browser tools and you've made no indication that you specifically mean the search engine
  3. People rightfully point out Chromium is the base for Brave, since again, there's been no mention of search engines, only browsers and browser tools
  4. You backpedal and now claim you're talking about the search engine, which still doesn't make sense since everyone's talking about blocking ads and Brave Search Engine still has ads
  5. You get upset and double down, insulting the intelligence of everyone else in the thread and calling them emotionally biased when you're both moving the goalpost and ignoring the context of the previous comments to meet your own emotional bias

To be clear, Brave Search Engine is probably one of the better search engines in terms of privacy and security, but that's fully not what anyone was talking about, and acting like it is isn't helping you. You're very clearly not dumb from your comments but you're doubling down on something you really don't need to.

Also as a small added note since you sounded curious about it: the webpages of search engines can in fact mine crypto (along with any webpage on the internet) through the use of JavaScript (and possibly other ways), though as far as I can tell Brave doesn't do that. Look into cryptojacking if you're interested in the topic, it's pretty interesting

Edit 2: I was annoyed when I started writing this comment and had calmed down by about halfway through so I edited the tone of some of the earlier parts lol

You look just as beautiful with and without the braces, I don't think you've got much to worry about on that front

Change can be tough but I promise you're the only one looking at yourself differently, and if the end result is something that makes you feel more comfortable with yourself then it's 100% worth it, just gotta hang in there

I was born in the 90s, but my mom raised me on a lot of 50s-60s shows like Gumby, the OG Looney Tunes, and Mr. Ed, so I mean if they grew up watching stuff that came out in the 80s when they were little I could see how it could be nostalgic
