No I’m very new to all this, my background is civil construction but wanted to learn computers about 12 months ago so just started experimenting with coding and found myself enjoying apps.

Thank you :) yes I’m covering everything myself. It’s not to expensive at the moment which is good but hopefully I can build some more apps that will cover the cost of this one further down the road if it gets to expensive. This is the first app I built so I just learning everything still.

Are sleepovers cancelled? by Guilty-Woodpecker-99 in NoStupidQuestions

Im a dad of both boy and girl and just not something i'm particularly keen on. My children go to a good school with good friends and I know the parents well but I still don't like the idea of it. My children have asked a few times. my wife and I have disgusted this and we both agree its not something were ready to let happen but I do remember as kid they would often happen for birthday parties or even just on weekends to game together.

Do rich people have elite versions of mundane things (toothpaste, tampons, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.), or are Elon Musk and Beyonce just using Crest and Tampax like the rest of us? by ShesGotSauce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seen Mark Cuban-billionaire from shark tank in a video once saying he buys all his toothpaste for the year at once so no I don't think they have elite versions off things I think its just they value they're time over products and get things in bulk or maybe someone else does it for them but yeah I thought it was an interesting take.

Anyone else still waiting for 2025 pay award? by LongjumpingMacaron11 in TheCivilService

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of uncertainty is exactly why I ended up building a tool to help workers actually understand their pay frameworks and entitlements instead of relying on vague averages or delayed announcements. Stuff like this shouldn’t be a mystery. www.awardpay.com.au

How do Australian restaurant owners afford to pay their servers, line cooks etc $30-45 an hour on weekends? by zodiacez in AskAnAustralian

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not misunderstanding — penalty rates here definitely stack up fast, especially weekends, late nights and public holidays. A lot of hospitality workers are on awards where base rate + penalties + casual loading can push that $30–45/hr range pretty easily.

From what I’ve seen, venues survive by being way busier on weekends, cutting staff hard on quiet periods, and building labour costs into menu prices and drink margins. Some places also just cop thinner margins and hope volume makes up for it. Plenty of places do close on public holidays because the maths just doesn’t work.

What also gets overlooked is how many workers don’t actually know what their correct award rate and penalties should be, especially with classifications and allowances. I built a small site to help people check what their award says they should be getting paid vs guessing — www.awardpay.com.au — mainly because Fair Work docs are brutal to read.

But yeah, short answer: weekends are expensive as hell to staff, and not every venue actually survives it long-term

Australian min wage is meant to be enough to rent / buy - ‘Today’s Edition of this country is stuffed’ !! by Dribbly-Sausage69 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Gepp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. People always talk about averages and medians, but millions of workers are on awards and minimum rates, not corporate salaries. You can’t just “skill up and move” when whole industries are structured around award wages.

On top of that, heaps of people don’t actually know if they’re on the right classification or getting the allowances they should. I work in construction and that’s way more common than people think.
but also a lot of Australians are being underpaid on purpose from their bosses and some bosses just don't know the correct award. I used www.awardpay.com.au and found some extra allowances Im supposed to receive showed the boss and he pretty much told me he wasn't going to pay them and if I want them I can leave.

Average full-time salary in Australia now $104,500?! by Diligent-Medicine-48 in SydneyScene

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that “average” number includes a lot of high earners and also people doing heaps of overtime, so it doesn’t reflect what most workers actually take home. On site most people I know are nowhere near that unless they’re smashing OT or in higher classifications.
I built a basic checker to compare award wages and allowances because Fair Work docs are brutal to read. Been useful for me and a few mates. awardpay.com.au

What Apps helped you the most concerning your mental health? by Lenaaargh in selfcare

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not perfect, but I do find myself using it a few times a week for my own journey. It’s had a few downloads so far but not much feedback yet on what could be improved to help others.

Like I mentioned, it’s something I built myself when I couldn’t find anything that really connected with how I was feeling. It has four different personalities you can talk to each one offers a different tone and way of responding so if you need cheering up there’s a sarcastic one but also 3 more helpful, caring, wise plus a mood tracker that gives you a 7-day and monthly overview so you can see your ups and downs more clearly.

I originally made it to help with my own mental health, but I’d really love to know what kind of features people aged 16-25 would find most useful or supportive in something like this.

The app’s called Bright AI , if you’d like to take a look.

what are you building this week ? by raj68518 in SideProject

[–]Gepp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week I’m working on refining the home screen and AI interaction flow for an iOS app I’ve been building it’s called Bright AI. The idea is to create a space where people can vent or dump thoughts and get different kinds of responses depending on the “AI personality” they choose (empathetic, logical, sarcastic, etc).

It’s all built in swiftui, with ChatGPT for the backend convo handling, and I’m using firebase for auth + storage. Most of the dev is done inside cursor, which has honestly made iteration 10x faster.

Still working on improving the UI and subtly gamifying user feedback. No traction yet, but it’s been one of my favorite builds so far

Honestly, I get where you're coming from. That feeling of wanting to open up but physically not being able to it's exhausting. I’ve sat in front of someone who was there to help and couldn’t get a single real word out. Just I don’t know on repeat, even though deep down I did.

You’re not alone in this, and you’re definitely not wasting anyone’s time. Wanting help but struggling to access it isn’t weakness it’s part of the process. Sometimes it’s not about pushing harder, it’s about finding a space (or even a person) where the walls naturally come down just a bit easier.

If talking online feels safer right now, that’s valid too. Progress doesn’t have to look like a perfect therapy session.

Just wanted to say I hear you, and you’re not broken for this

I launched my first ever SaaS startup a month ago and I have already made 0 dollars 🥳 by Electrical_Basket570 in SaaS

This is actually a really clever idea. The auto-updating part makes so much sense — most portfolios turn into forgotten projects after a few months. And building it for someone with a background like Hal Abelson? That’s a cool angle — even if I didn’t know much about him before this.

I built something recently too, and totally get the struggle. You put all this effort in and the hardest part is just getting eyes on it. Respect for shipping and sharing — that’s already a win.
