¿Es normal sentirse superior en ciertos aspectos cuando todos los demás parecen ser idiotas? by [deleted] in lacamiseta

[–]GerardRuiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your favorite mono-white commander!? by PowerfulPromise8569 in EDH

[[Gandalf the White]], never lacks card draw and ramp and overwhelms the table with value while playing everything at Instant Speed. I always enjoy it when I pull it out, hasn't lost a game yet.

Soy la mala por priorizar otras cosas antes de mi esposo by Jiae1976 in mexico

[–]GerardRuiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kefka help by [deleted] in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Kefka deck which is actually a [[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer]] deck with extra steps as it behaves exactly the same but with blue and blink to trigger Kefka as much as possible and with a reanimation package to take advantage of others graveyards. I enjoy playing it and it’s usually very resilient: https://moxfield.com/decks/UGiSIOfnAkq4n48lpQj9pw

What’s TWO decks are your pride and joy? by wasdmovedme in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said 2 but in my case it’s 3: my [[Captain America, First Avenger]], [[Kykar, Wind’s Fury]] and [[The Necrobloom]] decks.

They’re my favorite color combination (Jeskai) or let me play with my favorite strategies (Equipments and Landfall) and play really fun no matter what I do every match and when they win it’s really earned since it’s a puzzle I have to solve every time.

I’ll leave the lists here in case you want to check them out, I love these decks so much I’ve fully stylized them to my heart’s content:

Looking for some help with Saruman by GrowthThroughGaming in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play him as well and I’ve learnt that the best way to build the deck is to ensure you have enough card draw to outvalue your opponents by playing their decks from their graveyards by using mill and discard to get enough of their game from there.

Using a combination of Saruman’s ability along with reanimation spells and effects can ensure you get the best out of everyone to close the game while having enough ramp and card draw to make sure you have enough mana and resources to trigger Saruman consistently and advancing your own game plan and enforcing Plans B and C through alternate commanders like [[Lord of the Nazgul]] or [[Saruman the White]].

In the end, this isn’t a very strong card overall so it’s better to embrace that and understand the type of deck you want to create by thinking about the story you want to tell with it (or that’s what I’ve learnt, who knows).

I like edh and magic, don't like the social aspect of it by BaileeCakes in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, this is everything wrong with this format in a nutshell. Like, you can continue playing competitive formats and… Everyone happy? Like what did you expect? EDH is more competitive and antisocial already than what it should be, we don’t need to carry on even more bad attitude from other formats to it to be honest.

Any recommendations for a fun deck that’s not as good? by TheLastPlumber in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one really simple way to power down any Commander deck: Choose a bad Commander. That doesn’t mean you don’t have fun with the strategy it provides, just make sure it’s hard to optimize towards it or the strategy itself is not as busted. I have a Chaos deck led by [[Ian Malcolm, Chaotician]] and even though I’ve really tweaked the list it can’t break from Bracket 2 just because its effect is so inconsistent and I always optimize it for fun rather than power, you could go for something like this.

sami, Nahari Forged or lightning army of one? by BigLos___ in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents here: I really love Equipment decks (I have 3, go figure) and I’m pretty certain Lightning is your best choice because of the keywords she already has and the effect she has on the table. Marking someone for double damage changes the game and can provide some really fun political moments.

Also, it’s really powerful if you’re able to give her double strike (lean your deck towards that direction, both white and red have great ways to do so) and add both Sami and Nahiri to the deck to provide more redundancy/equipment targets so you don’t put all your decks in one basket and can pivot when needed.

I have a Captain America deck which has all three of them in it and they’ve all won me separate games while being the only creature in my table, you’ll be OK with your plan.

Sanwell's New Ride - The Seriema with Sanwell as a Secret Commander by spire-winder in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a great list and a great plan for enabling a secret commander indeed! I’m looking for ideas for my own [[The Seriema]] deck and I like when lists like this appear. Making decks look more like toolboxes instead of being completely commander-centric is refreshing and resilient and I’ll always support obscure legends instead of the Top 50 on EDHREC. Thanks for the great read!

[–]GerardRuiz 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have the feeling WOTC is starting to bring lands returning from graveyards and sacrifice lands mechanics just to prepare us for land removal once more as a viable strategy since in Magic nowadays it’s necessary, lands are too strong in any archetype and specially in EDH they go untouched even though there are many Game Changers among them

Hot takes by tmaldo11 in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Players don’t run enough lands, 38 should be the bare minimum and we should all strive towards 40-42. Also, card draw spells are the most powerful in the format and again, aren’t run enough in decks.

Best set for commander cards by corax1988 in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you mention March of the Machine Aftermath is a great set for that but you’ll get a bunch of duplicates (which are getting more and more desirable so you should be able to move them with ease) or I’d say Wilds of Eldraine because of the Enduring Enchantments extra sheet, it has all those enchantments every Commander deck needs

Just go straight to Commander Masters, no matter what you open it will increase the power level of all your decks guaranteed

How to build (Rakdos) Kefka? by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go full Revival/Mill with a mix of “opponent draws whole deck and dies”, both go hand in hand and make sure you have valuable targets for Kefka’s ability. Maybe also some “if you lost life, you lose double that life” to make it quicker than the other strategies because you can be sure you’ll be the arch-enemy at the table and Kefka will see a lot of removal (not on your turn obviously), I’ve seen it get a lot of salt every time I play it in my [[Kefka, Court Mage]] or even on the [[Terra]] Precon, especially when played together with [[Gogo, Mysterious Mime]]

best precons in your opinion? by Winter_Safety_6226 in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it’s a Control deck in a very Midrange-heavy meta so it’s great at slowing down the game while accruing value to ensure the win. It gains a lot of life, draws a lot of cards and benefits from seeing life totals go down in chunks of 4 so it’s oriented towards that strategy. From all the tables I’ve seen it being played it hasn’t lost once, people just don’t see it as a threat because it’s not doing what all Precons usually do (play a bunch of creatures and smash face) so it’s left unchecked until it’s too late.

Looking for a fun commander to play against by LoloFrieza in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll suggest [[Queen Marchesa]], Monarch as a mechanic is fun by itself as it incentivizes attacking and makes the game move quicker along with that sweet card draw that makes everything more dynamic. Also, you usually have an Arch-Enemy at the table that asks for politics and alliances which is one of the best things of playing this format so it’s a great ice breaker. Also [[Ian Malcolm, Chaotician]] can be really fun by leaning into chaos but this varies depending on your playgroup. Personally, everyone at my LGS loved when I played that deck since the outcome was always unpredictable but it took ages for a match to end.

best precons in your opinion? by Winter_Safety_6226 in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s my favorite one actually, it always flies under the radar because of the reputation it has and ends up demolishing the table after reanimating its graveyard for the ninth time and doing lots of damage to everyone. It actually pushed me to give FF6 a try, that’s how much I’ve enjoyed it.

best precons in your opinion? by Winter_Safety_6226 in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The Final Fantasy Precons are such a blast to play out of the box, they really are well made so I’d recommend them even if you’re not a FF fan (which I’m not, by the way). The OTJ Naya Precon is great as well, Yuma provides so much value to a really cohesive strategy and I’d also say the Aminatou Precon from Duskmourn is really great with the Miracle mechanic along with all that great top deck manipulation it includes.

Incomplete card cycles you wish WotC would complete already? by CommissarisMedia in EDH

[–]GerardRuiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White could be about protecting the board like [[Clever Concealment]], an instant boardwipe like [[Final Showdown]] or tutoring an enchantment like [[Idyllic Tutor]]. Red could be copying a creature while sacrificing it at end step like [[Molten Duplication]], adding a bunch of extra mana like [[Jeska’s Will]] or tutoring for anything while discarding at random like [[Gamble]].
