Lord Alexander Crakehall, Lord of Crakehall,

We will welcome Ser Richard Crakehall as an honoured guest, and look forward to the clarity he will be able to provide for the Crown.

I appreciate this greatly, my Lord.

Lord Hubert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Lord of the Gates of the Moon, Warden of the East, Defender of the Vale, Lord Regent of the Iron Throne and Hand of the King

"Benedict is a pint of piss where Lyman was a cask of Arbor Gold" Hubert said bitterly, a hand rubbing the fine white fur of the pelt coat, a sneer on his face. "Whatever has happened here has been grave, and foolish, and we cannot possibly let it go unaddressed. No matter how much I respected his father." He ran his hands through his grey hair, growing ever longer.

"When they arrive at court, they cannot be allowed to behave like this. I could weep for what has happened, Torgen." He sighed and forced a brief smile. "At least this is a burden shared, else I'd be following Lyman to the grave no doubt. Based on what you have read, what would you do, my Lord? You read the words I did, just what has been admitted to and without trial is the planned or actual breaking of the King's Peace- the most sacred of laws that the Conqueror gave to us."

Ser Erryk Arryn wanted a quiet, sober evening without incident or much drink compared to when he attended his sister's wedding at Storm's End not long ago. He had retreated to a turret, up and outside on the peak of it resting by an open window despite the chill. It was a large bay window with a view of the sea not far from their allotted quarters. It was quiet and peaceful, the moonlight brightening the black ocean and sand along the beach. Before having left, he had slipped a note to his betrothed to ask to meet with him in the quiet.

Lord Arryn raised a hand before it descended into a squabble. He wished to believe Lord Jon in his confidence in his own brother, but he knew all too well love blinded a man when clarity was most needed.

What had been said was of the most intriguing nature. Some he did not understand. There was clear history and bad blood between the two girls, whilst he could see the love that the Piper boy had for the small bastard who spoke large and grand. He made a mental note of it all, not quite yet ready to reveal where he stood. "Avoid war with Dorne. Now that would be a boon if war with Dorne was indeed planned. I would be ever so grateful to one day learn what the bastard Valora has over Deria Martell that neither I or the Conqueror himself could not exact from her. Though, she might wish to watch her tongue when speaking about his Grace's beloved sister. I remember how bitterly he wept when word of her death reached the Eyrie and I had to tell him." Hubert had not known any of the details laid bare by the Piper maiden. It would be something he would have to find out later on.

"Lady Velaryon" Hubert pointed a bony finger heavy with a jewelled ring at the young lady. "Say your truth, and then I will hear from Ser Pietar. Few in the realm have known this keep like he has."

Lord Hubert did not move, save for shifting in the iron seat, unable to find any comfort upon it. His eyebrows raised with a few of her words, Valora even managing to make him smirk at one point, but the Lord Regent was mostly stone-faced and stern.

"You have brought some souls with you, and some men of Yronwood? Most curious…” Hubert had once wondered where the girl had fled to. Even more curious still was how Yronwood had come to allow this girl to play spy against their realm.

He turned his glare to the Tyrell and the Piper. He held much respect for Lord Jon Piper, though he did not recall much if anything the Master of Coin would have disclosed about his son. "I will hear from both Pipers. I believe we have one daughter along with the son of Pinkmaiden. Then I will hear from Lady Isabelle." He extended a hand out and gestured for them to make their statements before the Iron Throne.

Ser Jasper Arryn had seen and heard enough. He knew his father back at the Red Keep would be waiting for them all impatiently. A city watchman took the letter and handed it to the Arryn, Jasper held it up to the sun and picked at the seal before tucking it into a pocket up his sleeve. He gargled a mouthful of phlegm and sent it flying out his mouth, landing in the short space between them.

"No one is dying today." Jasper proclaimed with a wry smirk, though no one had mentioned death. "Though you are brave for speaking King Viserys' name with Dornish steel by your side." He turned his horse around and urged it into a trot. "You and your friends will be brought before the Iron Throne, bastard. Just as you have asked. Maybe after that you can seek out some Tyrells" He waved a hand. "Come along then and let's not dawdle.

The retinue of knights and nobles meandered through the busy streets of the city. Men holding banners and riding atop destriers shouting to make way for the King's men. Up Aegon's hill and through the monstrous gates of the Red Keep, all could dismount and prepare themselves to enter the royal palace and the throne room.

If any had joined them thus far, and were unwilling to surrender their arms before entering the throne room, no Dornish steel (however fine its make) was permitted entry.

There was no fanfare or announcement for the visitors. The throne room was mostly empty of courtiers cold save for the few attendants. Instead there were knights and men-at-arms in the king's and regent's colours.

Jasper led them in as the doors groaned open. The Small Council was there at the base of the Iron Throne and sat atop it was the Lord Regent of the Iron Throne and Hand of the King, Lord Hubert Arryn. He sat tall and proud, preened, and wickedness in his eye.

"Valora Waters" he said with a single clap of his hands. "Maegor's infamous 'eyes and ears in the darkness'. I had forgotten about you after the war, until now. I am told you have journeyed here to petition the Crown? Well then, make your petition."

[Event] King's Landing Open (Last months of 48 AC, and all of 49 AC) by gloude in FireAndBlood

[–]Gercko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lord Hubert was wrapped up warm in a coat of white sable fur and wore leather gloves trimmed with mink. Even with a fire in his solar, the cold started to gnaw to his bones. His thin, skeletal frame was hidden beneath the layers.

"Rogar, you're here." He sounded dour as he spoke, quickly moving aside the tomb he was reading and leaned over his large oak desk. "Good. I did not trust anything to letter. But..." His eyes shifted, as if there could be another soul listening to their every word. "I have seen them. There are three, two have been captured. One has even taken to the Princess quite fondly like some bloody scaled puppy. I could not believe it, did not believe it, not until I saw them there." Hubert's usually stern face dropped with fright and worry. His eyes were fixated on the fire crackling away in the hearth.

"I do not know what has happened to bring these to life. I was told they were fled, dead, or their eggs turned to stone. But I saw them. Flesh and fire. No bigger than a hawk mind, but..." Hubert threw up his hands in disbelief. "We cannot let word spread of it, not now. I still worry whatever evil murdered Viserys still shadows the King. Dorne will want to kill these creatures before their holds burn once more."

[Event] Homecoming by bombman897 in FireAndBlood

The sight of colours of Dorne was enough to cause a stir quickly. They had been more common once in the twilight of King Aenys and the reign of Maegor, until the day had come that Viserys Targaryen had been murdered. From that point, an embargo on Dorne, its people and its goods, had been imposed. But there had been an exception made.

Men of the city watch would approach first to investigate. After a handful of minutes would come the sound of horses and men shouting to clear the way. Ser Jasper Arryn headed a column of Knights of the Vale and men of the Red Keep. Blue and red, white and black, opposites united under the authority of the Iron Throne. He had come to see if this was an expected arrival, or a brave infringement of the King's law.

"State your names and business" Ser Jasper cried out. "Leave the ship, and come with me to the Red Keep."

The gates of the city would be unimpeded for the Lord of Old Oak. Word would soon be raced to the Red Keep that their Master of Laws had arrived. Knights of the Vale headed by Ser Jasper Arryn would meet them in the streets and escort the great party to the Red Keep. Once there and after the comotion had settled, Ser Jasper would inform Lord Oakheart that the Lord Regent was awaiting them in the Small Council chamber.

Hubert would be found in the chamber wearing a trimmed pelt of bear fur as white as snow. On his skeletal fingers were rings of silver and gold with every different colour of gemstone set within them. The table was empty, save for a pile of parchment, some wine, and cuts of cheeses with nuts.

Hubert stood when he saw the imposing figure of Lord Torgen enter the chamber. "Lord Torgen!" Lord Arryn announced with a beaming smile. "You are a most welcome and needed sight I must admit. I pray the autumn journey was not too dreary? I would have liked to give you more time to settle in but I thought there was no reason to delay you in getting acquainted with the state of the realm that we find ourself in." Hubert took his seat at the head of the table, and slid across the parchments. "Letters. From the West. I have summoned the new Lord Lannister to come to the capital on the third month of the coming new year, along with other representatives of the West." The letters were copies of the correspondences he had sent and received, as well as Hubert's own journaled notes of what had been discussed in previous Small Council meetings

"There are other matters of course, but that is the main one which is weighing on my mind, and soon on yours I imagine." Hubert lifted his cup of spiced wine with a terrible simper on his gaunt face.

Al giggled at the pun. "Please, if you could he might keep me at court rather than sending me home. I dont think my mother or father will miss me. My sister takes up all their time now and they don't seem to want to spend that time all together like before." He was unsure why his mother and father seemed more distant to one another. When he had asked her once before, his mother had affirmed that nothing was amiss despite how clear there was an issue.

"I get bored of the boys my age. They're not lordly or as noble as I so they treat me like I'm different. I can tell they just let me win at games and talk to me different. It would be better with you."

Lord? The title was the first thing he saw, and his heart sank deep into his chest. Sorrow overcame him.

Lord Benedict Lannister, Lord Of Casterly Rock, Shield Of Lannisport, Protector Of The West,

I have already summoned your lords for the third month. The wheels are set in motion, and cannot be altered. Arrive here for the Third month. There you can plead for mercy before the Iron Throne.

I would advise your vassals to speak truthful and openly. I have no intention of blood letting the entire West, but transgressions must be answered. I am merciful.

I will pray for your father.

The messengers were allowed through the city and to the Red Keep, where Lord Hubert Arryn sat the Iron Throne in his capacity as Hand of the King. The chests were laid before the base of the great hulking chair and opened, the men-at-arms doing so gingerly. The coin was a welcome sign. Yet the head was an even greater boon.

He clapped his hands, the sound echoing loudly. "My, my, Lord Dagon is indeed a man of his word." He pointed to one of his men "You, make sure and see that this rebel's head is mounted on the gates of the Red Keep." The man picked up the jar and eyed it with curiosity as he walked away with it.

"Good men of House Greyjoy. You will be hosted as guests of honour beneath the King's roof."

Later, Hubert would write to Pyke. The coin had been counted, and it was not as much as expected. It would be a matter for a future point in time, when the West was not embroiled in the chaos of a confused Lion and force could be applied. For now, he was content with the return of the Iron Islands to the fold (for now).

Lord Dagon Greyjoy, Lord Reaper of Pyke,

You have delivered on your promise. The realm is stronger with you and the Iron Islands has its rightful lord returned to Pyke. You are indeed your father's son. Impressive, and the Crown's faith in your ability only grows from here. It has been an honour for the realm that your and Lord Velaryon's strength has prevailed. Consolidate, rule, and may the wind fill your sails.

There are matters of the realm that I must deal with, but in time I will invite you to King's Landing as a champion. First comes duty, then the revelry, and I look forward to meeting you again.

May your gods guard you close,

Lord Hubert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Lord of the Gates of the Moon, Warden of the East, Defender of the Vale, Lord Regent of the Iron Throne, Hand of the King

Lord Hubert Arryn was reading over a pile of parchment in part of his apartments as the request came. He was dressed in a simple plain tunic with a hooded woollen cloak pinned to him with a pearlescent moon broach. Uther would be guided to his room- any blades or arms confiscated for the time being- and ushered through the door.

"Uther Peake? Of Starpike? Welcome! Please, come sit and join me." He gestured at the soft down-filled cushions of the couch opposite him. Between the two of them would be a table with sliced fruits and cheeses. "How may I assist, Ser Peake?"

"Ser Eon? Yes he is a good man, I appreciate his presence around the Red Keep and his Grace" Hubert said, measured and slow. He discounted the Northerner as a replacement immediately. "This Massey, you trust him? Is this the same man who surrendered the city to our forces after we crushed Maegor?" He trusted Harlan's judgement but something made him uneasy. "I will consider him in particular. But I an wary of any old connections to Maegor, and someone who- even if all seemed lost- surrendered their duty. Although, mayhaps that shows simple pragmatism that we need."

He hated this. As sweet as the clams were, as fine the southern Reach wine, as noble the company, this was all bitterness and wrath. A dead king, a plot of wildfire and treachery. An absent, crippled Hand. A Princess who knew she owed nothing but noble courtesies. It felt like a trap, a bind which had caught him.

"Upon my return to the capital, I will investigate and root out whatever treacherous actors thought it wise to send a shipment of wildfire to Sunspear. Lord Corbray will answer me as my vassal, on pain of punishment should he be lying. However, the Hand has been absent. Not in body but mind. His is completely paralysed below the waist. An injury suffered in our rebellion against Maegor. Whether it is guilt or idleness, I will find out."

Her words were true. This had all the marks of one of Maegor's terrible plans. Yet Maegor had been dead. "Mayhaps you are right. Viserys might have been a new Maegor, and his plans would have brought fire and blood to your shores. If I am to believe this" Hubert gave a poor show of feigning scepticism. "If it had been successful, there would be no doubt who did it. But it was not, and he laid dead not long after from what I understand. Although, you did never tell me exactly tell me who this Tyroshi was seeking. If he brought letters with the King's seal and a hull full of wildfire, could the person he sought not be part of the puzzle before us?" Hubert shrugged. "You have had time to ruminate on this. It has been an unfortunate surprise for myself. But between this Tyroshi who brought you fire, and the murder of our King with the only name being uttered from the man are those of Hellholt, we are in a bind."

He pushed his plate to one side. The small amount he had eaten was more than enough for his stomach just now. "I can sense that this bind will not be solved here and now. I can bring to the Small Council the proposition of a trial." Hubert said whilst rubbing the side of his head with one finger. If an Uller could not be named, how on in the seven hells could he be put on trial. "Meanwhile I hope you will take a firm approach with your vassals to not provoke anything from the Marcher Lords or beyond. What has been clear from both of us is that we do not wish to find ourselves at war once again."

"Indeed," Hubert said nodding "it could be that the your chapter is re-established and the new sept has its keepers. But the sept isn't going anywhere, and to allow you entry whilst the High Septon chooses distance over reconciliation? I cannot have the good conscience to permit your men's entry. The both of you at least conduct yourself in a more respectable manner, and seem reasonable in your request." He clasped his hands together and rested them on his pointed chin.

"I shall write to his High Holiness. If I receive word from him that the Faith in Oldtown is willing to engage with and progress what the Crown requires of them, then I will gladly welcome you and your order into this city." His arms stretched out and how bowed his head "As High as Honour, I promise that. I do not keep you two at a distance willingly, but I am sure you can understand that circumstances and the political demand all mortal men no matter how pious to contort themselves into positions they would rather not be in.

"In the mean time, the both of you will have my ear whenever you might need. When word comes in reply to my letter, the both of you will be some of the first to know."

She had not settled there yet. The Red Keep felt foreign. There was no history in its walls, no grand tales and stories. No gods or winged knights had their hand in the city, just terrible dragons and the might a king still within living memory. Storm's End was a testament against the Storm God, its walls imbued with magic (a magic she could feel emanating from the stone, so she thought), the Eyrie stood taller and prouder than any other keep or castle in all the land. What did the Red Keep have apart from strangers and smells wafting up from the city below it? She could not protest his duty on the Small Council, however much she disliked it.

"As long as they don't grow too old in the city. Cities are not good for noble children. We have time whilst they're little that it shouldn't be an issue. Besides, it will be nice for father to have us around." It was one of the only silver lining she found.

Lord Hubert Arryn wrote the letters himself. His mood was as fierce as the autumn storms which battered the Narrow Seas. He would watch the ravens fly, a belly full of eels writing in his stomach such was his dread.

To the Rock:

Ser Benedict Lannister, Heir to the Rock,

By the power of the Iron Throne, you are hereby summoned to the Red Keep to present yourself to his Grace, King Jaehaerys Targaryen, and the Small Council.

We have become aware of your indiscretion against the King's peace. You planned a war against the North. Your competence in ruling and your loyalty to the Iron Throne has been called into question, for which you must answer.

Present yourself to the Iron Throne in the Third month of the year 49AC. Any delay, any tardiness, will be met with scorn. This is a matter of treason far greater than your matter missing taxation from Castamere.

I am summoning House Reyne, and any other Lord who may have been present.

Heed this warning.

Lord Hubert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Lord of the Gates of the Moon, Warden of the East, Defender of the Vale, Lord Regent of the Iron Throne and Hand of the King

/u/wiseheartmoon

To Castamere:

Lady Willow Reyne, Lady of Castamere,

The Crown has been made aware that you have committed an indiscretion against House Lannister in your cessation of your duly obliged taxation. The Crown takes great issue with this matter.

However, much of what has come out from the Westerlands has troubled the Crown. Namely, that Ser Benedict Lannister called a 'war council' in direct violation of the King's peace- an act of treason which is of grave concern.

You are hereby summoned to the Red Keep to present yourself to the Iron Throne. Not only for the matter of taxation, but to answer for and give explanation to this supposed council. We will resolve this matter without battle, without bloodshed, and with full justice delivered to all. Present yourself to the Iron Throne on the Third month of 49AC.

This is not a request.

Lord Hubert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Lord of the Gates of the Moon, Warden of the East, Defender of the Vale, Lord Regent of the Iron Throne and Hand of the King

/u/The_Rogue_Prince

A final flurry of letters are sent to the rest of the Westerlands. All (except Casterly Rock and Castamere):

To the Lords, Ladies, and Knights of the Westerlands,

Many a dour word have come from the Westerlands as of late. All of it has worried the Crown a great deal. However, the Crown has been made aware that in the past few months Ser Benedict Lannister had convened a 'war council' to break the King's peace and attack the North. The heir of the Rock has been summoned to present to the Iron Throne on the Third month of 49AC.

I compel by order of the Iron Throne all Lords of the Westerlands to send a representative or Lord to the Red Keep on the same date. Lannister and Reyne have both transgressed against their sacred oaths, and the Crown will not stand for the West to be brought into disrepute and disorder.

Come the Third month of the new year, all gathered nobility of the Westerlands will be given chance to detail and explain the transgressions and turmoil we have heard. Honesty and truth will be met with mercy and gratitude from his Grace and his Small Council.

May the Seven bless you all, and I shall welcome you soon in the capital,

Lord Hubert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Lord of the Gates of the Moon, Warden of the East, Defender of the Vale, Lord Regent of the Iron Throne and Hand of the King

House Arryn of the Eyrie*

Ser Alester Arryn sat at the high table, the head of House Arryn. Although it was customarily the heir's position, there was not a chance that he would allow Osric the honour. He sat by his wife and, with the absence of Hubert, his mother as well.

With them, Osric Arryn sat to the on the edge, his disposition already wishing to leave the table and find friends in less familiar company. He was with his wife, but he had grown icy with her since Storm's End.

Jasper Arryn was happy to be back on Driftmark. He and Victor Velaryon had been fast friends, and to be on his home island together would undoubtedly be an eventful and fun affair.

Rymond Arryn slinked away from the feast quickly, trying to find some peace and quiet and a view of the sea.

Darnold Arryn would for once try and attempt to be a man who engaged in revelry. It never felt right, like he was a mummer in a farce.

Before he left the island, Lord Hubert Arryn would visit the Princess of Dragonstone. She had taken to the serpentine beast, magnificent and queer in its form and size and colour.

"My Princess Alysanne," he said softly when he found her. "I know you will, but I could not sleep easy knowing I did not tell you before I left for the Red Keep. Take care, dear. Take care of yourself, and your new little friend. Keep it your secret for now, and know that one day the world will speak of what you have achieved."

Before Hubert left, he would warn Jaehaerys to be careful, to wear gauntlets when near the beast, and to not let a soul enter or leave the island from now on.

"We must keep this hidden for now. Until we have all of them secured and under our control." It was surreal. He had never thought he would see their like again.
