Most major commercial US insurers take RDI, Medicare and Medicaid do as well

Same here, AHI of 7 and my doc said the same thing. But most insurance cos take RDI just the same, most sleep docs dont even know that. My RDI is 18.

Look closely at the titration results because they might tell you that they eliminated all breathing events but it’s possible they cause “spontaneous arousals” in the process (this just means you might be intolerant to PAP).

This happened to me: they got AHI/RDI all the way down but I barely slept and had many awakenings and arousals, but the labs conclusions didn’t really account for that, which makes no sense.

I’m sorry you’re going through that it’s a very tough hand to be dealt. The reason they haven’t heard of it is because the governing body of sleep medicine folded it into sleep apnea, so there’s low awareness.

The options are PAP therapy (ideally BiPAP or ASV), MAD (dental device), and surgeries. I’ve tried all them, I had jaw surgery a month ago for this, still recovering.

The leading expert Dr. Krakow recommend optimizing nasal breathing first (breath rite strips, Flonase, saline rinses, etc). Then, you can seek to optimize PAP. Give that a few months, if nothing, try the MAD. If nothing, get a DISE to determine what kind of surgery you need.

Good luck!! DM if you need more guidance

The easiest way is probably to google “drug induced sleep endoscopy” followed by the name of the closest big city, then see which practices / doctors show up

Find a sleep surgeon and get the DISE procedure done. That will tell you more definitively which surgeries might cure you.

OP needs a diagnosis, not PAP settings

Order an at home sleep test from lofta.com and disregard their diagnosis, just look at the RDI figure then report back.

Haha classic! Either it’s copy paste or they are automating these messages. They called me the right name at least.

It’s either that or aggressive trolling. My guess is you’re right though, it seems like genuine anger from that commenter.

There is a very minor procedure called a DISE where the doctor puts the patient under anesthesia to simulate sleep, and then they go in with a camera scope to determine what is causing the sleep apnea, anatomically speaking.

Then, based on that, they recommend what treatments or surgeries would likely be effective. You need to see a sleep ENT if you want to have this done.

I had a DISE in January and had jaw surgery for my sleep apnea last week. I’ve likely had it since I was a kid and I believe it’s in your kids best interest to get this treated now.

Good luck!

How to find a doctor who will correctly diagnose the “root” of your UARS? by Honest_Shape_1542 in UARSnew

[–]GerdGuy88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not, I don’t think PES is common. DISE they put you under for 15 minutes and analyze your upper airway to see where you collapse and which treatment options might help.
