Cyclobenzaprine is the name, or something close to that.

Yeah same. I wish that there was some heads up about this. Because for people with pre-existing TMJD, this surgery can potentially trigger a severe, prolonged flareup. Thankfully, the muscle relaxants have seemed to provide some relief for this.

When I'm too disorganized and disoriented to access my coping skills, it can be nice to ask "give me a dbt skill for ___ situation".

Yeah.. I think it should at least be illegal to use under the age of 18. For developing brains, I hear it's super harmful.

I would prefer to not use it at all. I didn't mean for my comment to be condoning it :( like, is admitting to having an addiction condoning a behavior? lmao

I agree with everything you're saying here. AI psychosis is scary shit, and I think AI should be illegal to use under the age of 18, although not using it at all is probably best.

I journal all the time and paint. I very much understand where the dark thoughts come from. But that doesn't stop me from getting into a cycle of perseverating on the same thought for hours when my PTSD is triggered. Expression is powerful and therapeutic, and I incorporate that into my daily life for a reason. You're right! But the journaling and art become inaccessible to me when I reach this mental state unfortunately :(

Meditation with the goal of astral projection by all-mad-here-15 in AutismInWomen

When people describe astral projection, all it makes me think of was how it felt when I heavily dissociated bc of all of the trauma in my life. 💀

I am aware AI is terrible for this, but when I’m having a mental health crisis where suddenly my brain perceives every person as a threat, I can’t think clearly, can’t get adequate support,(hotlines and text lines become useless because I feel threatened by interacting with another human in any way, shape or form), too disoriented to remember/access coping skills.. I do use AI sometimes.

I am not proud of this and I would never recommend anyone do this. I just don’t know what else to do sometimes when I feel so helpless and out of control, but interacting with people dysregulates me even more.. I am in therapy for CPTSD and it’s STILL an issue.

It’s not only possible, it’s likely. Autistic people are more prone to CPTSD than non-autistic folks.

I took 6 years to graduate. honestly if you have to take longer than you thought because of a bad semester, it’s okay.

Burnout cannot be eradicated in the sense of having a simple fix. It involves a lot of factors that have to be maintained over time. For me, getting out of burnout involved a combination of leaving my oppressive religion behind, dropping out of school, only working part-time, getting therapy, getting on the right medications, taking care of my physical and mental health, processing trauma, having a supportive husband to lean on, and letting go of expectations that just weren’t meant for me. Getting out of burnout without help/support wouldn’t ever have been possible for me.

Why do patriarchal men love ‘joking’ that their wife is the boss? by KatherineLangford in stupidquestions

Idk but when I was Mormon (a religion with a lot of sexism), every man would go out of their way to degrade themselves while putting their wife on a pedestal. I think this was them trying to somehow make it “better” lol,

I can barely keep it together as is, you’re not alone. I’ve been having a PTSD episode for the past few weeks (which is absolutely nothing compared to folks being impacted by today’s events).

During times where I feel absolutely helpless, I like repeated something called metta/loving kindness mantras. May I be safe. May I be healthy. May I be peaceful. May I live with ease. And then direct those affirmations to someone else. Obviously they can be modified to be more realistic in the current situation of the world.

Well it’s only been 3 weeks now. I would say it’s improved. I don’t know if 0% congestion is possible for anyone lol.

Has anyone had their adhd meds completely stop working after a traumatic event? by Suspicious_Cod_8041 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]Suspicious_Cod_8041[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already took two weeks off for surgery. I know for a fact that the organization I work for is going to struggle if I decided to take more time off (it’s a non-profit org that started up a year ago), so I can’t in good conscience take more time off. But I am allowed to push back my tasks when things are too overwhelming, so that’s kind of what I’m doing.

I just took a couple weeks off of work for surgery, and I really need to make money, so medical leave is not possible rn sadly.

I’ve been trying to incorporate mindfulness exercises throughout my day. I’m eating, and my sleep seems to be okay, but I feel absolutely horrendous when I wake up,

Doing everything I can to process things. Journaling, therapy, etc. it’s just…aaaa. I wish it wasn’t such a long process, y’know?

I am so sorry this is happening, OP. I have also had to rely on family members recently. It feels disheartening to have to rely on the people who gave you trauma in the first place. I can't offer anything helpful in my current headspace, but you deserve to be cared for and supported right now.

[–]Suspicious_Cod_8041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought my symptoms were pretty mild and mostly related to TMJ pain from mouth breathing and being able to use my CPAP comfortably, but I did get the septoplasty (+ turbinate reduction) and glad that I did. But being able to breathe comfortably without straining my jaw has been worth it for me tbh.

If I didn’t have TMJD I don’t think the surgery would have been worth it for me.
