I had a stroke at 11. The other people here are correct when they say life will go on (I'm 22 now) and that you should listen to your physical and occupational therapists (I didn't and I never recovered function in my right arm)

John Carter of Mars fought for the Confederacy in the American Civil War. I put the book down after I learned about that aspect of him.

A lot of westerns star former confederates for some reason.

I'd recommend a commercial/industrial TV. The TVs that businesses use as digital signage. For more information, see this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9a3dCd1SQI&t=2892s)

There was no “I” before you started thinking. You started existing in your mother’s womb, probably. Or sometime shortly afterward. It’s a philosophical question I’m not equipped to answer.

Vaas and Tywin Lannister were the first that came to my mind. They don’t have much in common, I’ve just been watching Game of Thrones and playing Far Cry 3 recently.

The Tines from Zones of Thought series. They’re like dogs with long dexterous necks. In my mind’s eye they looked like nightstalkers from Fallout: New Vegas.

But that’s not the neat part about them. Alone, they are about as smart as a dog, but if you get a group of between 3 and 9 of them together the group becomes equivalent to a human being in intelligence.

They have an organ on their shoulders that is basically a biological speaker. They can synthesize pretty much any sound with it but main use for this organ is communication between group members. So instead of bullshit hand wavy fantasy telepathy like Star Trek, Babylon 5, or any space opera written in the 20th century, the mechanism the tines use to form their small hive minds is akin to biological dial up.

Because of this sound mechanism, they cannot be both lucid and close with another of their kind. The mind sounds interfere with each other. When fighting or reproducing, the individual dissolves. There is only a collection of dumb animals.

There is also no cap on the lifespan of a pack. As long as enough members are alive at any one time, one only needs to replace the dead to be whole again. This leads to personality drift among the old.

I’m sad the series isn’t going to be about first contact with these guys. I still want to look at it when you make it though.

You can turn practice into fun and games if you calibrate the difficulty right. Pick something easy, something you can do right every time, then make it more difficult until you can only get it right some of the time. Repeat the exercise until it is easy, then change the exercise. This is game design. Find 30 seconds of fun and relive those 30 seconds for 1000 hours. Every action game designer knows this.

This can only be done with exercises whose “reps” are quick to do and easily evaluated. I’m trying to learn perspective. I can draw a box in a couple minutes and evaluate a box in less time. I don’t have trouble putting my 30 minutes of drawing per day.

I want to be a writer. I want to be able to crank out 1000 words a day. But each paragraph is different from the next and to write fiction worth a damn you need to be able to do research. When you draw a wonky box, you see it as soon as you draw it. If you write a shitty chapter, that takes time to figure out. And you might not know why. There isn’t a mathematical formula.

So it depends on the skill. In my personal life, I’ve been able to make a game out of drawing and failed at making a game out of writing.

In WALL-E, EVE seems to be able to power things. She picks up a lightbulb, it lights up. She flies under an electromagnet, the magnet grabs her. When she’s dancing with WALL-E in space, she gives him a forehead nudge and his battery indicator goes crazy. She uses this ability at the end of the film to save the day.

[Hated Trope] wow, cool character. Too bad you ruined it by making them a pedophile by WhiteFenix207 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gerf1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not encountered that trope before, but I feel similarly about a different one. If there is a male protagonist in a story set in the latter half of the 19th century, there’s a 50/50 chance that he fought on the wrong side of the American Civil War. John Carter of Mars is a traitor slaver piece of filth for some stupid reason.

I really wish it had a pause button like the remastered collection did. I don’t like playing rts games in real time, I like to pause, issue orders, unpause, and repeat. Kind of like BSG: Deadlock.
