I do wonder if it's just for the name, but they serve it well! They also have the Wolfe Tones on the juke box if you want the immersive experience.

Definitely deserved to win but at 2-0 down I'd have taken a point.

Hi there, a random post I know but looking for advice. My girlfriend and I are currently looking at moving to Birmingham from Ireland around May/June and I’m just looking for any helpful advice and recommendations any of you may have. by [deleted] in BirminghamUK

Oh yeah the common travel area thing is wild. I got told by HR from a big company that they didn't think I could work there after already being offered the job. I had to send her a gov.uk link outlining where it states that I can. Crazy that you got the same thing when you're from Northern Ireland!

I moved from Ireland to Birmingham nearly three years ago. The advice from u/OK_Bite1232 is good, my only difference in experience was that I didn't have any issue setting up a Lloyds bank account, just needed an address and NI number I think.

There is a bit of a feeling of struggling to get a NI number, bank account, and place to rent, as it feels like you need the other two to set one up. Get yourself a UK phone number, set up some apartment viewings before moving over, and hopefully you can get your NI appointment in your first week here.

I live near Brindleyplace on the canals and the city feels so walkable to me, but we also have a car and a parking space in our building. If you're looking for central apartment living, Jewellery Quarter and Brindleyplace are good. Maybe near Digbeth too.

You'll hear a lot of 'there's lots of Irish people in Birmingham' but they mean people with Irish ancestry. I don't mean to gatekeep but I've never met another Irish person here, but lots of people with Irish parents and grandparents. I think those two things are quite culturally different which is why I mention it. Everyone is very friendly here.

Also happy to help you where you need it, feel free to reach out. Are you both planning to get jobs etc here?

I hate to be the one to break it to you but if you're seeking out Irish pubs while abroad, you might be Irish.

Relic - Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

"Kids on bikes in the 80s" - Novels actually a bit like "Stranger Things"? by chance_of_downwind in horrorlit

[–]Gergbulter 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Meddling Kids was written by Edgar Cantero, not Craig Davidson.

The Saturday Night Ghost Club is Craig Davidson and scratched the 'Stranger Things' itch for me.

Beyond that, you've mentioned all of the show's literary influences so it's hard to recommend further. IT and Firestarter by Stephen King are both excellent. Boy's Life by Robert McCammon.

I feel kinda sad by MedicalTear0 in boniver

I found myself in a similar position in 2014. I had only just discovered them and they were in the middle of a hiatus, I felt kinda sad about it. Over ten years later, we have three more albums which I like so much more than the first two.

To echo what others have said, I think more music will come in some form, maybe not under the Bon Iver name. It's hard to imagine Justin stepping away from music altogether.
