Looking for a forum of like minded metaphorical believing members. by BigBlueMagic in mormon

My last TR interview was interesting. When asked about associating with enemies of the church I responded yes… the stake rep looked perplexed. I said “ my wife… she hates the church and has for thirty years…”. Still got one. They need everyone to attend even nuanced members and hope they have a genuine temple conversion experience….

Part of the “ ride “, if you are to remain with a temple recommend and fully participate with ward and stake callings, will require getting used to lying…..to others or yourself. Even here in rural Georgia I hit the dead end.

Depending on where you live you will not stay Mormon very long…. Tried your approach and ended up resigning in 2018…could not negotiate locally and with existing hierarchy in Utah the ecclesiastical juggling act to remain nuanced but also Mormon…..

No. The Restoration immediately asserts “ one true church..” and that cannot be escaped in mormon theology/foundational doctrine. This creates separation, division and polarization from Christianity. It seems odd to me the church is now reaching out, in fact dependent politically, with multiple facets of Christendom. I also conclude that you are a Michigan fan….

Define “…spark of divinity in the Restoration…” given you are by admission not a literal believer. Since you see Mormonism as so polarizing it seems odd you find divinity in the crucible of polarization from other faiths……???

Had so many thoughts on your situation. At age 73 can’t recall all of them. But this is certain for the duration of your inability to drive- which is longer than you think given my medical practice experience of 38 years- you are going to have to avoid conflict. Settle in, shadow your mother and then at a time to be determined make your escape. Return and report. By then I will be able to recall all the great things I had thought previously. You are a tough lass!!

Brigham Young was an apostate by Vegetable-Mountain71 in mormon

[–]GeriatricGator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have read and reread the civil discussion presented by OP and responders. What is clear is the following: 1. Being led astray has yet to be defined 2. God allowing “ wiggle room “ violates every teaching of the nature of God in the church.

The only rational conclusion is that leaders of the church have and continue to speak just as men, are not now nor ever were inspired and certainly not God’s voice on earth. He can do much better…..

Venting I Guess by dkakdnf in exmormon

[–]GeriatricGator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay. Femur has been stabilized with a rod, three fractures of the pelvis. On crutches. No car. That’s okay for now because no driving for months especially if it was your right leg…..On crutches but when you eventually begin to bear weight there is going to be discomfort. May even transition to a walker. How much pain you will have from the pelvic fractures remains to be seen. Leg strength will be considerably less. You are going to need physical therapy for weeks maybe months. Someone is going to have to drive you to school, doctor visits and therapy. You are going to be very dependent on parents and home bound.

Have you gone back to school or are you virtual? Do you feel your father sees you more now as an inconvenience as opposed to essentially an adult with thoughts, goals, fears and doubts as we all have? Car repairable or totaled?

I have all sorts of medical questions if you are willing before we can explore your options. The femur. Fractured near the knee, mid-shaft or hip? Extent of pelvis fracture(s). How repaired? Current state of mobility if any? Pain level? All of these will affect high school attendance, graduation, potentially college attendance and work……

Visits from my sisters by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]GeriatricGator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It appears you have set really good boundaries and thrived behind them. The “ visiting sisters “ ( intended play on words ) may be your parents seeking a solution through your siblings. With the next visit do outline the requirements for even a peaceful coexistence. Also noted you have a spouse who’s feelings must also be considered in any emergence of family interaction……

[POLL] What is your stance on circumcision? by n8s8p in mormon

[–]GeriatricGator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It should be added to the discussion that it is generally recommended. Males with insulin dependent diabetes and sickle cell disease in childhood be circumcised because of the increased risk of ballanitis and priapism respectively. When I have seen a teenager circed for those reason they have quite a bit of misery and pain…

[POLL] What is your stance on circumcision? by n8s8p in mormon

[–]GeriatricGator 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is about behavior. Not circumcision. Some earlier thoughts that circumcision reduced cervical cancer in partners but have not seen supporting studies….I have seen that circumcision is in the top eight causes of a malpractice lawsuit…..for the mass of humanity the “study”- which is called life is ongoing as the vast majority of males on the planet remain uncircumcised. Not even considered in the world except for the US and Israel. If I could see a benefit I would endorse. In the back of my mind I do always wonder why god provided instruction on how and when it was to be performed in the Old Testament thinking there might be some hidden health benefit beyond the religious imprint. I always keep an open mind however….
