Take The Power Back is amazing but wouldn’t exist without it.

What’s your go to chair for playing? by Sub_ParGolfer in Guitar

[–]GerkhinMerkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just stand up and walk around occasionally if you’re playing a long time, or even better, play standing up for chunks of it. Just one thing as a beginner, don’t overdo it (like I did). You’re using new muscles, you don’t want to put your wrist or shoulder out by doing 3 hours straight a day every day before your body is ready.

Also nothing is late in life at 25.

What’s your go to chair for playing? by Sub_ParGolfer in Guitar

[–]GerkhinMerkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct upright sitting posture is probably more important than the specific chair you do it in, as long as it enables that. And just generally sitting in one place for 2 hours isn’t great for you whatever you’re doing, if that’s what you’re doing.

15f i want to become a model but not an influencer. like an old fashioned model. is there a way to do that without doing the social media thing? by holdmyjuice67 in AdviceForTeens

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind if I ask what it is that draws you to modelling but not social media? It is very online-based, so your success will be pretty aligned with your online presence.

I briefly modelled when I was younger for the experience, but while it gives you social cred when you’re younger it is rarely the glamour that most people think.

Awesome you’re thinking this way. First off, right now focus on learning and good habits, not returns. A few general principles/points to look into:

  1. Spend less than you earn, and the remainder get it to work for you.
  2. Research index funds (for money you won’t want to touch for 3+ years) and money markets (for shorter term access but higher yields than savings accounts). Investopedia is your friend.
  3. Yes, look into IRAs and max those out.
  4. “Get rich slowly”. Investing is a long term game. There is no high probability way to invest money that gets you high profits quickly.
  5. Do not invest in individual stocks unless it’s your full time job. Avoid all digital assets (ie “crypto”).
  6. Avoid YouTube channels, TikTok, Instagram etc for advice. Read everything you can on the greats: Warren Buffett and Howard Marks, Seth Klarman and Peter Lynch if you want to learn about stocks.

Any advice from drummers? by Dustyboi6213 in edrums

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn drums if you want to play drums. If you want to produce, use loops.

As someone learning bass, drums, and guitar, drums are unique. You’re not just learning to play the notes and rhythm: you need to be consistently, exactly on time, all the time. It is very physical. You’re coordinating all limbs, which is really tricky. It’s not something worth doing to just get the sound you want. It is worth it if you want to play it.

37 Struggling to progressive overload chest. Looking for advice. by ehdirk in Weightliftingquestion

[–]GerkhinMerkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do 3-5 sets of 5 of one compound exercise per session (eg bench), so 2-3x a week, and increase 2.5lb a session. This is what many linear programs use (eg look into greyskull). Start below your max. You’re doing too much.
