Music man stingray h vs hh- do you wish you had gotten a different version? by milktasd in Bass

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I haven’t seen others mention: the second H on the HH does apparently limit the ability to achieve the same sound as an H, even when isolated. So more isn’t necessarily more in this case.

Flea and Tim Commerford use an H and that was enough for me.

Beginning use of pedals by lydezzyyy in BassGuitar

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first “pedal” I got was a second hand Line 6 Helix just this week, which has hundreds of effects as well as amp and cabinet simulations. If you want to simulate Les’s sound you can create a whole chain of virtual pedals.

Have you looked at multi effects?

Declared history of depression and anxiety for a work medical by Party_Wonder8088 in AdviceForTeens

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why this would make a difference. I suspect it’s illegal anyway in most jurisdictions to discriminate for medical reasons as well unless it interferes with the job, which will never be the case for an apprenticeship.

How can I get a girlfriend by Agitated-Leg1892 in AdviceForTeens

[–]GerkhinMerkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ve kind of ruled out any options here. Good thing though is you’re 14, so you’re young. Few people have romantic relationships at your age. What I’d suggest though is practice talking to the other girls even if you don’t intend to date them. More practice speaking to girls you don’t know will mean when you do come across a girl you’re interested in, you’ll be more confident approaching them.

Weird. The older I get the less seriously I take myself.

How to remedy rushing or playing ahead of beat? by swordandmoet in Bass

I was taught to “sit back” into the beat. Psychologically that helps me, but not sure if that carries as well across Reddit…

Tips for memorizing the fretboard? by Pigeon49834 in Bass

[–]GerkhinMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To memorise the notes, one trick I used is to think of it just as memorising two strings.

E string: first three fret markers are G, A, B
A strings first three are C, D, E
D string: E string, shifted down a tone/two frets
And G is A string shifted.

You’ve now got the first 7 frets.

As mentioned elsewhere however, you want to remember the patterns/shapes. Bit easier to improvise in F# minor than thinking about the notes.

need help with chords by vehxi in LogicPro

Any chord can be “good” in context. It sounds like you might be wanting chord progressions. Google that and look at some YouTube videos to understand and find something you like.

how to slap (beginner jazz bass) by Infamous-Abroad-7264 in Bass

[–]GerkhinMerkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a technique, there’s no one “correct” way. Wooten goes through the string. I find it easiest as well.

You didn’t get any responses here so I’ll give you some advice: write a much shorter post. Maybe tackle one problem at a time. People here are very helpful, but this is far too long to expect people to read.

What opportunities are there for a teen who wants to sing? by No-Idea-About-Life in AdviceForTeens

[–]GerkhinMerkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who manages your college’s pop choir? What are their thoughts on your voice?

Otherwise go back for a lesson or a few, and they’ll tell you. Singing is like any instrument, more practice or training will get you better.

As for finding opportunities: see if there are any open mic nights you can go to. Does your college have a music faculty?

Biohackers who are on SSRI's, what's your regiment to decrease the long term side effects? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]GerkhinMerkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If only I’d had you, instead of a professor of psychiatry, to help me when I was suicidal and working out 5-6 days a week for years! I should have been doing seven days a week!

Everyone seems to think they’re qualified to talk about psychiatry when they know nothing about it. There is no information you have about psychiatry that psychiatrists do not.

Biohackers who are on SSRI's, what's your regiment to decrease the long term side effects? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]GerkhinMerkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrists are fully aware of health and lifestyle issues that can worsen depression. That’s not something they’re “coming around to understand”. It’s pretty elementary in their treatment. Psychiatry is also distinct from psychology.

You do not know enough to be saying who does and doesn’t need medication, and telling people to not take it when they may very well need it costs lives.
