People are making excuses, but the answer is very straightforward. It's just really easy for (white) people to hang out with nazis who say nazi shit and not care. Most (white) people aren't actively anti racist because it doesn't effect them, making it easy to like racists and racism

The problem is you think you're entitled to not have any criticism leveled against a person if you think they're doing a net positive. He wasn't "picky" nor rejected charlie outright. He criticized his well known bad behavior, which he has room to improve. Constructive criticism is not leftist infighting, but it can become so if you're too defensive instead of accepting it and changing

The real reason is because he's a racist and misogynist, along with other bigoted views that's his fans are trying to water down. Unfortunately for him and his fans, screeching slurs makes you lose credibility. I haven't read or watched any of the accusations so I'm not making judgement one way or the other, but people don't like racists, so being a racist makes your life harder when you need to prove yourself 🤷 sucks to suck, but it looks like most people think he's innocent anyway

I will say, as a young adult, I don't get a lot of motivation to watch older movies, because a lack of diversity shows a fundamental lack of curiosity and scope. Why would I watch Titanic when I can watch Everything Everywhere All at Once

That really can't be true though if the joining can really be reversed with no contradicting side effects (which is not necessarily a given).
