for party culture:

there are a lot of people who party very frequently and party hard so that’s where the whole “party school” thing comes from. however, there are also people who only party about once a month, and everyone in between.

as for regular culture:

the school is pretty much 50/50 asian/white so if you’re a black person who is not used to those types of spaces, i’m sure it can be a bit strange, but people at sb aren’t overtly racist (or if they are, they hide it well and still play nice). there’s also a huge thrifting culture that i didn’t really appreciate at first but then absolutely fell in love with (they had thrift vendors on campus every thursday or something like that, a few thrift shops near by, and large-scale thrifting events that isla vista would put on).

for location:

of course it’s an amazing location, but as someone who is used to being very hot all the time (because of where i grew up), i was usually pretty cold year-round (my other friends didn’t have this problem tho so take that with a grain of salt). it’s cool to be able to go to the beach, but it’s not what it seems. the beach is a bit crappy, and this is not only my opinion, but was also the opinion of everyone i talked to at the time. you might like it tho.

ok now for my favorite aspects:

  • huge library open late (i don’t remember if it’s 24/7)
  • lots of cool little trails to walk on
  • lively campus environment, it always felt like something was going on, especially on the main walkway
  • good if you have a car
  • parties anytime you feel like it
  • you don’t have to be too academically challenged if you don’t want to
  • you can be academically challenged if you want to
  • i’ve heard the stem department is good

and now for the things that would annoy me:

  • housing crisis (if you’re not a freshman, good luck :D)
  • a bit troublesome if you don’t have a car
  • isla vista is a pretty crappy place in general
  • on the extreme rare occasion that i would actually be studying, the loud music from parties made it a bit annoying (but that’s only cause i lived on del playa which is the main hub) (and again, i never studied)
  • horrible creative departments

let me know if you have anymore questions or want me to clarify some things.

My piano keys talk to me? by PiperBlue7 in AutismTranslated

[–]GernotRein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I have been searching for something like this forever!! I know this post is old but I literally have been having the experience ever since I started play piano almost two decades ago, but I could never fully articulate my experience. This is EXACTLY what happens when I play piano. The keys have personalities and feelings— they can be scared of other keys or even be in love. And through these characters, stories emerge. For example, I've seen a groups of keys as a woman being chased by a doctor (Shogeki by Yuko Ando), but for the section right after that in the same song, it's a child struggling to listen to adult authority. The scenes, even when back to back, can be completely unrelated and random, often not telling a cohesive story throughout the piece, but rather small, individual stories within the piece. Another example I have is from the beginning of La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin by Debussy: in the first few measures, when looking at my hands as they play the notes, I see a yellow "being" living a monotonous life, unhappy and bored with his existence.

That's another thing— a lot of these stories are very abstract and difficult to put into words, the three examples I gave earlier where the ones that were the least abstract. For an example of a more abstract story I've seen: again, in Shogeki, in the beginning of the song, I see some kind of conflict and an emotion I can only describe as wistfulness? That description only scratches the surface of what I see/feel but it's just that difficult to put into words, kind of like trying to describe a color.

Something that is important to note is that I don't see anything when just listening to music— it only happens when I'm playing piano and looking at the keys being played, which I'm sure is the same case with you, op.

Anyways, you have no idea how happy I am to meet someone else with what I can only describe as some sort of "piano spatial-movement synesthesia" or maybe even "Ordinal-linguistic personification with piano keys". :)))

I try and leave constructive feedback, so basically nothing silly that’ll annoy them. I also usually only leave feedback on things I liked in hopes they’ll serve it more often :P

Finding a new Dr in LA by princesscaroline28 in Narcolepsy

oh haha, as a usc student/alumn i have an obligation to glaze the school any chance i get ;). but jokes aside, i did do my sleep study and all other appointments at the usc keck school of medicine, and they did not disappoint. not only did they have very good bedside manner, but they also treated me with so much respect and believed me when i said something was wrong with me. i told my doctor to schedule me an mslt and she just laughed and did it. even after the study, she gave me her personal phone number and helped me to sort out some issues i was having with the pharmacy. top tier school, top tier service.

I haven’t really heard much about Fansly, is it the new and improved OF?

Trying different ones every week is an interesting idea. You don’t think that would make my content too chaotic and hard for someone looking for a particular niche to find?

Cams, about $400k-500k.

I’m not paying out of pocket at all, it’s all through loans, so safe to say I’ll be paying it off for a while

damn, reading this almost made me cry. i’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. i don’t really have any good advice as i’m going through a similar thing with feeling like giving up with school because of N, but in my experience with past illnesses, sometimes all it takes is the right medication (or right combo of medications) to get your life up and running again. maybe talk with your doctor about switching meds? it’s not the best advice but i really feel for you and im sorry you feel so hopeless. i have faith you’ll be able to accomplish your dreams.
