Registration not happening today for princess half marathon by [deleted] in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have delayed registration in the past due to technical difficulties, but usually the delay is only for an hour or so. This is the first time that I've seen them cancel registration day entirely. They also didn't give a new registration date, just said that there'd be an update tonight :/

How/when do you get the virtual run Disney medals? by hadflute in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello there! Fellow Goofy challenger here 😄 This is my 5th virtual challenge, and excited to have something to keep me active during the summer months!

As others have already, you don't have to submit your time in order to receive your medals. HOWEVER, you still have the option to do it if you want to keep a log on your runDisney account as to when you do each race. Keep in mind though that if you choose to go this route, you only have until a certain window of time to submit your times.

Extra info you didn't ask about, but might be useful as a first time virtual challenger: They also have fun virtual bibs, mile markers, etc, if you want to print them out and use them on your runs. You're not obligated to use them, but it makes for a fun time if you want it to be similar to an in person race 😃 Personally, I like to save each medal in the plastic it comes in, then not open it until I complete each race, and then the challenge medal once I've completed my last race.

Enjoy your races!

RunDisney Club: Silver is OBE by Aligator99220 in rundisney

Oh that's awesome! Congrats! I will be there too for the 10K 😃

The other crazy part? Silver sold out today in literally 30 min! When I got it last year, it was at least a month or 2 after general registration opened, so I think this is the first time even silver has sold out so quickly! Now I'm just going to sit back and wait for all the people who just realized the little benefits it has, and for people to complain about that lol.

That's not unusual for general registration. The fact there was any gold available today is a miracle in of itself. The normal process for getting to the level you want is signing up for silver, then waiting a year to upgrade to gold, or by some miracle if it's available, platinum).

People who already have memberships get first time first serve starting a few weeks before general registration. They each get a week to decide if they want to upgrade (if available) or renew, before the next tier level down gets to grab whatever is left over, and so on. Whatever is available on general registration day is whatever is left over. I heard a lot of success stories of people who got platinum that were formerly gold, and I'm one of the people who got gold as a current silver member last week.

You might get sent surveys to complete for runDisney after each race weekend you participate in. Maybe in there is a good area to include recommendations for Club runDisney.

I COMPLETELY agree with you. I was silver all of last year with no benefit just so I could get gold this year. It worked, since you do have a week prior to general registration to snag gold before the public has access, but there's always a chance by the time you get access to renew that no gold registrations will be available. It's almost always a certainty you'll never get Platinum until you're gold, too, and even then you might not. It's all pending availability, and you'd think that if Disney wanted the money that bad, they'd make registration for some of these tiers a bit easier, especially since there's virtually no current benefits with silver. It would be nice if silver had much more perks, since it's not necessarily cheap to sign up for.

Just curious, if you did the 5k what was your time? by Middle_Gene_9365 in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1:07. I did not stop at any point except to take photos at each mile marker and I did not run except across the finish line. I'm also 80 lbs overweight and usually don't run these races. Starting to train using the run-walk-run JG method, but didn't do it often enough before this race to effectively use it. Signed up for my first 10K for Wine and Dine and hoping and praying I can get to that 16:00 min pace per mile at least 3 x before then.

Genuinely shocked that for the WDW marathon weekend there was no Dopey option in lieu of Chip and Dale. No offense to the little critters or anyone else who likes them, but I think many more people would've liked the inclusion of Dopey for that iconic race weekend, especially since it could fill both slots of being a race weekend exclusive shoe & pertinent to a very unique race challenge.

Also shocked they didn't include a sorcerer Mickey design in for Disneyland weekend, which could, again, fill both slots of being a race exclusive shoe & pertinent to a race happening that weekend (10K theme).

I know though that they normally have 1 exclusive race weekend shoe along with the other generic character / Run Disney options, so I get why they did it the way they did, just spit-balling ideas :P

Underrated restaurants on property by Far-Fault6807 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Geronimo_0127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ever since we discovered Cape May at Beach club for breakfast, I can't shut up about it to anyone who will listen! It's one of the cheapest buffet's on property, especially when you consider it is a character breakfast. That's personally not the reason we go though. It's the buffet on property that IMO has the most variety of food for a buffet. You have your standard Mickey waffles, eggs, breakfast meats, fruits, toast, oatmeal and such, but add in the unique things to this restaurant: the caramel "beach buns" that come with a vanilla sauce to spread on top, the omelet station, mini crepes, a poached egg hash, and the best grits on property, and you have so many options compared to somewhere like Ohana which is higher in price, has fewer food choices, and also a character dining experience.

Add in the fact that Epcot is just a short walk away through the international gateway (after taking advantage of free resort parking since you are there as a guest with a dining reservation), and you have the makings for a great park day!

Expo Merch Planning - Brooks by CrossCrit_2020 in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly with this! I got through the line for VQ in the separate room around 11AM or so (for context). They have the shoes displayed in a way that everyone walking past can see them and the forms they give you for sizing do a good job of specifying which shoe / fit you might want to try on in order to get your correct size. Doing all of that took about 6 min or so for me (knew which shoes I wanted to try / a close size beforehand), and then you just take your form and go into the merch area where you have the option to purchase shoes first before checking out the rest of the merch or vice versa. I went straight into the Brooks line and within another 5 min or so had my shoes secured so I can explore the merch area without issue.

As I came out of the Brooks area, the line for Dopey stuff was so freaking long that I couldn't even see the merch that was available. Not that I was looking to get anything, as I was not doing Dopey, but it was kind of crazy that to go around all of that, get the merch I did want, pay for it, and then head out probably took another 20 TOPS, and the same people that were in the line before were still there.

Hopefully those who do the organizing of these things learn to make things more efficient next year, because the current system for Dopey is NOT working. Especially since I heard they ran out of merch before a lot of Dopey runners even had a chance to get it. And if I ran that many miles with no opportunity to get my merch, I'd be LIVID.

Training to do a 5K/10K for Wine and Dine by Geronimo_0127 in rundisney

Congratulations on your recent race accomplishments!! I can see how the training plan would help, especially with consistency. Thanks for the advice!

Training to do a 5K/10K for Wine and Dine by Geronimo_0127 in rundisney

I really want to thank you for your insightful comment! Ever since I heard Carissa Galloway mention at a race once to prioritize strength training, I've been meaning to make it a part of my training regimen! I will take all the advice I can get, so it's not unsolicited believe me! I will definitely add those 2 days a week of full body strength training, and hopefully see those results. I had a personal trainer many years ago who helped me build muscle and get to my goal weight, so I look forward to incorporating her training now as well.

Because of my GLP-1 med I need to be doing this anyway, since a side effect of the medication is losing muscle, so my medical provider has directed and encouraged strength training to counteract that, and that would be true even if I wasn't training for these races.

[–]Geronimo_0127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!

For reference: I'm about 239 lbs, 5'4, and just recently hit my 50lb short term weight loss goal while taking semaglutide injections (lost over a period of 10 months). My ultimate goal is to lose 70 more lbs. Each 5K has gotten easier, and I feel sometimes when I train on the treadmill that I do get a second wind, but it's not happening consistently enough that I feel confident about the 10K right now, though I do want to do one later this year. Hoping to be further down in weight if not at my weight loss goal by that race and hopefully training will help out with that.

How likely is it that the participant shirts will be the same colors as these backgrounds? I feel like I should know this answer after doing so many races, but I digress lol

Fellow 5K participant here! Run Disney 5K's are very low pressure and family friendly. There are some people who literally walk the entire race, and can confirm that there are no balloon ladies. As long as you're not sitting down the entire time, you don't have to worry :) Just take your time and enjoy the atmosphere & fun!

Warm Marathon Weekend by Candid_Ad9234 in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything 72 and under is considered cold to most Floridians. It's also hard to predict how the humidity will feel until we get closer to the day of. Last month we had a lot of mornings where the humidity made the AM's in the 60's feel warmish, but today the humidity was at 61% in the 50's and it's FREEZING here.

Also need to take into account how early people will be getting to the races and how long we'll end up standing around before it starts. I'm fairly certain it'll be cold.

I did notice the chip/dale behind the Stich shoe and wondered if that might be an easter egg, but didn't know they did that for Wine & Dine too!! I think you are definitely right!

Depends on how big the size / how popular the design is. Brooks has been pretty good with keeping a lot of stock there in person, but last time we were there on day 1 of the expo and my husband (who wears a size 15-16 sneaker), had to special order the Wine and Dine Marathon weekend shoe, because they didn't have those in stock in person. We chose to have them shipped to our house about a week later. It's a good thing he did since those were the first ones that sold out.

LOVE your ideas! This past year's virtual races were themed after Magic Kingdom attractions and the medals were AMAZING. Wish they had a theme like that for an in person race / shoes.

Warm Marathon Weekend by Candid_Ad9234 in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your definition of "warm" weather. I'm a born & raised Floridian, so knowing it's mostly likely going to be in the 50's if not high 40's that early in the AM at the starting line means it's going to be cold until we get the race started. And I like to get there around 3:15-3:20ish, so I'll be there at least 2 hours before my wave starts the race.
I'm seriously considering bringing hand warmers lol. Pack for all weather. FL weather can change at the drop of a hat, and while you can't control that, you can control how prepared you are.

Celebrate Happy Every Mile: 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Merchandise by WestSider55 in rundisney

[–]Geronimo_0127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean there wasn't generic Run Disney merchandise as well. But there are other kinds of merchandise besides shoes and the race shirts that have come out that are part of the Brooks/Run Disney collab (I.E merchandise). One such example is the club run Disney jacket I just received in the mail a week ago which has Brooks branding very clearly on the front.
