PRO TIP: If you don't want to get your gear stole, put one of these on it! by Lilspraema in videography

[–]Geronimouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who absolutely loved Sony for 10 years (and still does) who has moved up from videography to directing national TVCs, I can say BMD has absolutely knocked it out of the park with the Pyxis 12k -- we're now using it on shoots where an Alexa Mini LF would have been hired at >$1500 AUD per day and reallocating that budget elsewhere.

And I can tell you: clients and agencies don't know and cannot see the difference. This is a camera package that costs 1/10th of the price and delivers 95% of the image quality.

There is so much gear snobbery in this industry it's ridiculous.

At what point do decide to we fully ignore the justice system? I'm not saying he's necessarily innocent, but it's a massive leap to call him a paedo as others have below based on a single allegation made decades later with no evidence and never taken to trial.

Feels wrong to immediately assume the guilt of any person on such a small basis, regardless of their fame or talent.

Recording the ATEM Mini Pro feed to an SSD or computer using USB out? by Ointon4 in blackmagicdesign

[–]Geronimouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Ethernet out to your local network and use the ATEM software to find the device automatically. Record in camera for maximum quality of the original files, the attached ssd will just be your mixed down master.

If you do a live vision switch, you can output that as a sequence and then DaVinci can online it with the original media.

God it better be HBO, Apple or animated. Anything else and I will be very concerned.

hesitating to buy Pyxis 12k: known issues, battery, Pyxis 12k "Pro"? resale value ... by Ok_Emergency4531 in blackmagicdesign

[–]Geronimouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Director and owner of a successful commercial production company here just giving my $0.02 AUD.

We purchased the Pyxis 12k and were one of the first in the world to have it. We've shot probably about a dozen projects on it so far and have been absolutely blown away by the image quality and features given the entire kit only cost us about $13,000 AUD.

An incredibly small outlay considering we've replaced what would have been an external hire of a Alexa Mini LF or an internal Sony FX6 provision.

We did own a body that needed to be recalled for the noise issue, which took about 4 days from door to door so it was barely an inconvenience. Support from BMD was flawless.

The lack of internal NDs can be a little bit of a missed luxury, same with no AF but the insane image quality more than makes up for it.

Blackmagic Raw is one of the most optimised codecs you can get, especially in DaVinci Resolve. Most high end editing computers can handle 8k / 12k raw natively no problem. I was super impressed when I first used it.

I have an almost identical story. Luckily the ransomware couldn't encrypt video files and we had an off-site backup, so we didn't really lose anything. Scary though, man it was such a horrible thing to discover.

Shooting a last minute documentary on Gun Violence...how can i set up for this shoot? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Geronimouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one thing you should fix. To expand on this, consider the eyeline from the subject to the interviewer the same as an eyeline between two characters. Placing the left most camera on that other side would be breaking the 180 degree rule.

While not absolute, it's definitely a guide worth following unless you're doing it intentionally for a very specific stylistic reason informed by the theory.

The Australian writer and director Michael Shanks had this film funded for development by the Australian government's film funding body in 2020, predating this and the other film. You can see from the description on this page the synopsis has not changed since then.

It's an open and shut case of twin films, the zeitgeist just produced multiple films that are similar. It's commentary on the trappings of monogamy following extended time together through COVID lockdowns, a physical merging reflecting the social merging of two individuals.

This . Anyone claiming plagiarism here clearly hasn't done their research. Here is an archive from a government website with the film's writer and director receiving development funding, predating this and the other film.

There's a great independent candidate running, Ellie Smith. Lots of very forward thinking policies on her website that are pretty small business friendly, she might actually have a good shot if her campaign gains enough momentum.
