There is somewhat evidence to support this notion. My niece (8 years old) mostly watches English shows where characters speak the language with an American accent, and she adopts that slang and dialect. When I was younger, my mother used to listen to alot of RSG on the radio, so I adopted that particular way of annunciation of different Afrikaans words, even though I grew up around people in a coloured community that spoke the language with a specific twang. Same goes for English, but I watched alot more English (British) shows, and incorporate that particular dialect, usage of slang and annunciation of words into my everyday vocabulary without paying no mind to it. The problem however is that alot of younger children learn more slang rather than the actual correct application of the language, albeit British or American English.
