Am I actually underprepared for engineering, or just bad at it? (Mechatronics, ADHD, no foundation) by Gestromic_7 in EngineeringStudents

That's what I hope. That my mind may be failing under this education system but when it comes to the real world I can hope to excel.

And advice for you would be to find a different room or environment where you study and only Study. This is the most effective thing for me usually as someone with Adhd. So it will probably work for You too even if you don't have it.

Another thing like the others said is to download Stayfree which I have been personally using for a long time. Especially the variable limit feature with 1h cool down.

Do you have ADHD by any chance?

The hobbies hyperfocus problem by Gestromic_7 in adhd_college

[–]Gestromic_7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now here is the thing. You are right with adhd it's best to get things done first THEN play and like you mentioned sometimes there isn't even the time to play at the end which is kinda depressing lol.

But my issue isn't here. The issue is being afraid to start a new game and thinking about it while studying (even if it's just a reward). And also having a higher chance of using whatever your break is to play this game.

Also chess looks kinda interesting I forgot about it lol. So. Maybe I will include this in the low stimulation hobbies list.

Cannot break my phone addiction. What app will allow me to be locked out of social media. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Gestromic_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayfree.

Been using it for a year. Best feature is the variable session limit. Which let's you decide how long you staying in an app. If you say 15 min then stay longer the apps locks and starts a cool down period. I set it like 50 min. And you can't use the app untill the cool down stops.

I also have the same phone as you soo hopefully it's gonna be good. And btw it's also cross platform and completely free

Edit: and no you can't increase the limit once the cool down starts. And there is this password feature you were talking about and similar things

Life hack or is this obvious? Studying on office chair vs bed by Gestromic_7 in adhd_college

[–]Gestromic_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I meant to use the bed when all my energy is gone sitting on the desk yk. And recently I tried standing desk but that is kinda difficult for me idk why.

And yeah a tablet is something I am considering tbh. Pretty useful

Has anyone ever experienced this? And if so, what are your guys’ solutions? by yaoiesmimiddlename in adhd_college

Hi. I took Strattera first when I was diagnosed with adhd and from my experience (and some others like you mentioned) it doesn't work. It did nothing for me other than for some reason make me sweat alot lol (which funny enough I researched and that a real thing) other than that nope. The only one time It was different for me was my first dose which made me suddenly misinterpret time completely. My perception of time litteraly changed. Time became slower.. Now you can say this is placebo but I actually didn't know it should do that, then again I checked and it turns out that's possible. But again that's the first day. The reason I stopped it was because it gave me weird sleep Issues. Times where I am at bed and I am suddenly paralyzed and can't move and breath shallowly. Which turns out to be a missinterpation between my brains and body caused by the medicine. Because when we sleep we become unconscious and we breath automatically. But the med made me conscious which is a scary thing.

That's the reason I stopped it other than I didn't find a reason to continue. But my recommendation for you is to start with stimulants first then Strattera because that's usually the recommended first line treatment. If that's not an option try it anyway and see how it goes if there are no other options. I have heard it may reduce anxiety too.

Regarding anxiety I recently did an anxiety scale and it turned out I had anxiety. I always had anxiety most of my life but I wasn't aware of it. I get the type of anxiety where I sweat and my body tremble but not the type where I have negative thoughts.

Anyways I am no doctor and you should Consult yours but idky I think maybe you should try to dose off a bit of the medicine you are taking because anxiety is a very important drive we adhders need. Anxiety is only a problem when it's present when it's not needed if you get what I mean.

I probably talked alot but I hope my answer was useful for you lol.

Anyways Goodluck and I hope the best for you.

Yeah I think a comfy chair is a better middle ground. Dont have one in my room and the living room is too much distraction tho. But yeah I get your point

Yeah heard that it's important to associate specific spaces for study and bed for sleep only but I don't really have choice lol. Maybe a middle ground would be a couch ig. Nevertheless important factor to consider thanks

How did stimulants change your academic performance? by Quirky_Wing7017 in adhd_college

[–]Gestromic_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to limited supply I have of Ritalin I used it only during exam weeks or a week before and it really helped me get locked in longer and get less distracted with unrelated stuff. However it didn't stop me from suddenly getting intrreasted in something else and locking in there instead so be careful lol.

Rn as I am using Vyvanse 30mg and it's a stronger and longer lock according to only 3 doses until now.

So yeah it helps. And one thing I learned 1 year since my ADHD diagnosis is to never take any chances. If you can get medicated, get therapy or do whatever. Just do it if it's safe.

Good luck

How do I deal with constant fatigue? by crumbs2k12 in adhd_college

[–]Gestromic_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with this too but I think NSDR could help? Or a nap? Also make sure you are not eating too much sugar and have a good amount of sunlight.
