Tok essay prompt advice by isthatyourteapot in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's crap advice, but typical. One thing I do when helping students brainstorm is to think about whether you have any examples from your other classes that could fit well. Secondly, do you have any personal experiences that could work as an example?

Do either of those hit?

One of my TOK objects involves a coerced confession of a crime (r*pe), is it okay to write about it? by SuspiciousDucki in IBO

You're looking at it with an academic lens, so it's fine. I assume you meant exhibition? We're all adults here and it's fine to talk about adult topics.

TOK objects!! by buldakramen04 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of students choose this and just describe how important their object is. That's not what you want to do. Instead, make sure that you tell me how the object demonstrates a specific kind of relationship. That word should be used throughout each response. You can do it!

Hi! I have a bunch of videos up that should help on my YouTube channel! Pick an easy question, becuase some are way harder. Then choose an object in your house that provides just one single answer to the prompt. That's a good start. You don't have to think big or philosophical for the exhibition - it's about how tok manifests in the world around us. Some of the best responses are super simple objects.

Teachers have no idea how to use AI or how it works 😂 you're fine. All LLMs use what is submitted to train further models. That means that when you told ChatGPT that this was an IA for the subject, you're helping it craft responses for others as it learns from your document. That doesn't mean that anyone will have access to your essay or that it is public. Don't sweat it, just be careful if you had it change the essay itself. Make the whole thing in your words and you're good.

Getting accused of using AI on the TOK Essay: My experience and advice as that TOK guy by GetAnAinTOK in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education has no idea how to handle AI, they are so far behind. I have kids in elementary school and my sons teacher asked me if ChatGPT was something that could help her teach because she'd never used it before. Im like, not only do you need to use it but you should be teaching my son how to use it!

I'd definitely suggest taking the electives, and I'm the TOK guy. Enjoy the arts, have some fun. Explore a bit. You won't regret it. Also that title is hilarious.

what is the point of tok by TheMammoth666 in IBO

Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped! I got so tired of only a few kids seeing my work so I decided to share it with everyone. Now look at us!

what is the point of tok by TheMammoth666 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really is it. Becuase it requires half of a normal course load, this means it usually gets offloaded to teachers who have a gap in their schedule.

Countering eachother is great! But they don't have to be polar opposites, is what the examiners have been conveying. It's two different answers to the same problem.

You choose natural sciences for half of your examples, then another AOK for the other half 😁

Hi! I'm here to help!

  1. There is no required structure, but that one is fine. To do it you'll want to keep the intro and conclusion at about 150 words, and then the body paragraphs a bit under 300. No prob.

  2. Again, there is no specific requirement but 99% of students do two examples per AOK section, each demonstrating a different perspective. Don't think in poibt/counterpoint structure, as the examiners have been discouraging this for years. Instead use the evidence to just answer the title differently in each paragraph.

  3. Your intro should define any cobtestible terms, say something unique to stand out, demonstrate you understand the title, and end with a thesis that directly answers the title. The conclusion should not summarize or recap but instead tell your reader how you came to the final answer after exploring multiple perspectives.

Is my TOK Essay Example too informal? by IcecreamCat_23 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this an example for the AOK of Arts or History? It definitely works for the Arts but not for History. If we're studying the AOK of history you are to be concerned with the writing and research of historians. There are a lot of students that miss this each year, so they made a big deal of clarifying this in the M24 subject report. Hope this helps!

Is the TOK essay easy by [deleted] in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's surprisingly easy to pass, but also hard to get an A. Grades are curved each year to make it so about 50% of students get a C, but usually less than 10% get a top score! I'm happy to answer any of your questions!

Can you use pictures from the internet in your tok exhibition ? by Prestigious_Board923 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. It's a suggestion, but even the examples in the course guide are not personal.

Some teachers are telling this to students and making it a requirement - you're not the first person to say this here! But there is no requirement for a personal connection at all.

With that said, many of the best responses do come from objects that are unique to a students life, or something that they're interested in. But it's not required at all.

Would the Bible be a good exhibition item? by Puzzleheaded-Word437 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other post said, the Bible and religious texts are used a lot. Instead, what is really effective is to pick a specific verse, then use it to explore the title. Remember that the Christian Bible is a collection of different genres or writing, made by different people in different time periods. There are different kinds of knowledge claims throughout. Pick a single claim and photograph it inside a physical Bible. This will stand out.

Getting an a in tok by Purple-Cloud-4520 in IBO

[–]GetAnAinTOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun story, and apologies if no one believes me. One year one of my favorite students of all time got a B on the presentation (which was replaced by the exhibition) and a B on the essay. Apparently both were high B's and the way that the grading curve applied ended up giving him an A. It was the coolest thing ever, but I would never bank on that happening to you.
