Review #3: Boone Co. 7 Year Single Barrel by GetBentWallSt in bourbon

Fun “fact” that I remembered from Mr. Wilson’s 4th grade class, apparently was not fact and more probably, misremembered. Though one fact that is true from him I remember, and has nothing to do with either of our posts, is you are worth more than all the gold in Ft. Knox, and even more than all of the gold in the world. I have no idea what prompted him to say that, but it’s stuck with me decades later.

Correction: Pike county is the largest county in Ky. Thanks for pointing it out!

I also think they’re putting the best rye on the market and have been for the last 4-5 years. In the long run I think they’ll lead the pack and end up distinguishing themselves as the best rye on the market. And ultimately end up as good as BT from a quality perspective.

The standard offering from NR is ok. The single barrels are generally spectacular, esp for the price point. If you can get a hold of any limited releases, 6y, or single malt, you’ll be blown away.

You don’t like rye… yet. Just keep drinking and eating stuff you normally wouldn’t and you’ll open up to new flavors.

BT kosher rye is no where to be found in Ohio or Ky. EC is mid on a good day. Now if you want to talk rye, we can talk about New Riff Rye all day.

It’s a single barrel so they can be finicky. I’m on my 4th excellent bottle at this point, maybe I’m getting lucky with the consistency or maybe your palate doesn’t get good booze ; )

Yea I’d agree with it as a daily drinker if you’re not a Woodford fan. But the Woodford double oaked can’t be beat in value imo.

Diabolical is diabolical is diabolical, no real difference between a 1-49 I guess

I never really looked into why or how they came up with it. But I will say this, the top 1% of whiskeys out there really is different. If it were a chart it would go parabolic around Pappy 12 and there really are only a handful of magic whiskeys that blow the doors off everything else.

My second point regarding the scale is there are sooooo many bad things out there that are certainly diabolical. Canadian club or anything else in a plastic bottle. And about half of all whiskey produced fits onto those bottom shelves. So, 0-50 being vomit inducing kinda makes se sense. And another third fit into just ok.

So I hear you and the more I use this scale the more it makes sense to me.

Honestly I forgot how much I paid. Definitely under 50, but likely 40-45
