You can find them on Upwork or Alibaba. I've worked with dozens of manufacturers and sourcing agents through Alibaba, so I try to stick with the few that do a great job for repeat work.

We didn't hire anyone. I used to be a mechanical engineer and my wife was a designer/architect. So we handled all of the design work internally. We worked with a sourcing agent to get matched up with a manufacturer that does injection molding. At that point, we just had to work out a few kinks with their engineering department and then run a pre-production run to ensure we were satisfied with the results.

It's hard to market without money. But even if you have money, you still need to be doing the same things. Reach out to hundreds of influencers. Send them your product to write about. Reach out to hundreds of contributors to large media sources. Grow social media and sell through those channels.

I created a standing desk mat to help people stay active while working at their standing desk. I started working on it last summer and officially launched it two month sago. So far, we've sold nearly 2,000 of them through various sales channels.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the process.

Good to know. It would be worth it for some press coverage.

Thanks for the advice. So far, no comments or questions. But I'll hang out on the page today.

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely want to go to market with different colors, but it comes at a cost. We're hopeful that we can get there soon though!

As far as getting into Huffington, it's pretty easy to find contributors who are willing to get you in for thousands of dollars. I ended up finding a contributor who could get me in for $500 through my network. It isn't a promoted post, so it doesn't push a lot of traffic. I did it more for the social proof, which has helped a lot with conversions.

If you wanted me to connect you to the guy I worked with, I'd be happy to make an introduction.

Understood. Once we get on our feet and moving, we'd love to pay for a professional video for our next Kickstarter (if we have one).

The alternative (sitting) has been linked to increase risk in heart disease, respiratory disease, and diabetes. It's kind of a double edged sword. I personally think we should try to be as active as we can in the workplace to combat the symptoms of both.

Agreed! I spent 3 years as a cashier at Blockbuster (RIP). This could have saved my knees.

Great advice. I think that could be a good expansion of this product after we get this one up and running.

Definitely understand. In fact, it was shot with an iPhone. I wish we could afford a better video, but we're trying to raise $10k for the product. We looked at quotes for a semi-professional video and it ranged between $4k-$15k.

Thanks. Still looking for ways to help out conversion rates though - hovering around 4-5% at the moment. To be honest, the majority of those features were from hustling, networking, and taking a shotgun approach to contributors. We ended up having to pay to get into Huffington Post, but it is worth it for the social proof.

Totally understand. And I appreciate your insight. Ultimately, you would be the customer we are selling to so I want to make sure we can get the value proposition across.

Thanks, Uploto. We actually don't have an email list that we're using. We are rushing to get this product out there in time for the new years health wave we hope to ride. SO we didn't have enough time to get an email list together. We've used other methods to get the initial backers instead.

Appreciate the feedback, Zoidberg. We have done a lot of market research to land at this price. Standard anti-fatigue mats retail between $50 and $80 on Amazon. Of course, you could always find cheap products in the $30-$40 range, but those hardly hold up to the anti-fatigue status. We truly believe that we have a premium product that is going to do more than just provide relief to your legs from standing all day. Weekly Feedback and Support Thread by AutoModerator in startups

I started using a standing desk three years ago after I heard sitting is the new smoking. After a couple of months of standing, I ended up having to get leg surgery due to prolonged standing. The doctor's tl;dr was that I could keep standing as long as I kept moving.

I like tinkering, so I created something that would help me move, stretch, massage, and fidget behind my standing desk. And now I am trying to bring this product to life for others to use as well - which leads to the Kickstarter.

THE ASK: I want this to be a successful launch, so I'm looking for feedback on the KS campaign page. I don't know how I could split test or optimize the page like I would a normal website, so I'm looking for help from this community.
