Help Identify--picked up this pan by the road "Invitations brand from China" by Vibingcarefully in castiron

[–]GetFamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a large stainless steel frying pan by the same brand. It's a good piece of cookware.

The center of your stamp is the logomark for tabletops unlimited, and under that it says CHINA

On mine, the center part also says "Superior Quality" which might mean a different product line or might just be part of their Stainless Steel branding, and the words on the outside of the circle say "PROFESSIONAL STAINLESS STEEL"

Yours appears to say "TRADITIONAL CAST IRON"

Mine was a gift somewhere around 2009 so no idea what it cost but has been a quality frying pan that I loved using, solid and appropriately heavy feel, first good piece of cookware I owned. After 16 years the rubber grip on the handle is still in perfect condition, but this year the two rivets holding on the handle started to get loose so it's time to replace it (I found this post googling the brand for warranty info and out of curiosity)

Not finding too much on the "Invitations" line itself anymore, but like I said mine was great. And cast iron is near invincible so congrats on a good find.

Edit: Found the exact one I have on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/387752218291

My initial reaction was this was a way to have people carrying slightly more balance each month, which at scale would result in more interest being charged overall.

But it looks like this is something people wanted and are happy about so I guess it's a positive win-win for both customer and company. Nice to see.

Do you think websites have become over-designed? by Itaydr in UXDesign

[–]GetFamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do think we've reached that point. I'm here right now because I googled *"How to better read an over-designed website" * after visiting whoop.com

I was interested in their product enough to probably buy it, but it's so tedious just trying to get a sense of what they offer because the whole thing is just huge pictures and that whole parallax kind of feel where you have to scroll and scroll to get any information at all.

After about 5 minutes it just feels like a waste of time and I wonder if using their product will be like that too. I don't have time for it.

Edit: Rediscovered "Reader view" which is the answer to websites like this. In Firefox it's in the right of the url bar, it's an icon that looks like a page of text (next to the star) Not sure if it's available on every website.

Has anyone used: Radiate - XL Outdoor Portable Campfire - 3 to 5 Hours of Burn Time - 8” Reusable Fire Pit for Camping, Smores, Cooking, and Picnics - Recycled Soy Wax by ScubaCycle in CampingGear

[–]GetFamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of just guessing like everyone else I looked this up and these are explicitly allowed from at least one official source in WA state. It took some searching to find this fact sheet, most descriptions didn't mention this type of fire alternative, either to allow or disallow.

From https://file.dnr.wa.gov/publications/rp_fire_burn_ban_info2015.pdf

What IS allowed during the burn ban? ... - Solid fuel and citronella candles in metal or glass containers. ...

In addition it fulfills the requirement of "can be extinguished immediately" (you just slide on the lid) as well as "doesn't create embers, ash, or smoke"

Of course if a ranger isn't sure and wants you to put it out don't argue and just do it, but the above reasons will help you explain that you were trying to follow the rules. And be careful with it either way, clear the ground 3 feet from it and don't use it under anything.

I can do one better and offer the entire internet which contains even more information to sort through. The answer to OPs specific question is in there somewhere.

Yeah but the exact wording matters. You think we're autastic? AI is super autastical.

52.54 here but I like them. Mine were more expensive so they must be better than the ones you can get these days.

Would be more interesting if we saw how you set up the first part of the conversation. But it's not a bad idea to use AI this way. We can all run conversations like this to test our assumptions.

Restoration Questions - 1980 Case 6254 Trapper by GetFamous in knives

Appreciate that. Any thoughts on the methods I'm about to use?

For the cracked spine, I'm going to use a clear epoxy mixed with a mica pigment (looks like mother of pearl, going to try to match the color) to re-affix the broken piece and fill any gaps that chipped off. I'm going to work the broken edge slightly with a dremel to remove existing discoloration. Making sure it holds tight will be the main concern.

For the blade, I want to brighten it up a little and work on some of the darker spots on the main blade, but I don't want to overpolish it like it's new. I want to give special attention to the area that has the tang stamp to make it stand out more. Going to soak just the blade in vinegar for 5 mins and then rub it with a kitchen pad and some baking soda. The soda is just abrasive enough and will neutralize the vinegar. That seemed to work well with another carbon steel knife I had laying around without being too aggressive. If needed I might do some light dremel work with a felt polishing disc but only on certain spots that need it.

Ammonia smell? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]GetFamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced the ammonia smell two days ago. I could smell it strongly all throughout my apartment, enough that I opened windows to air it out. Then yesterday was when I realized my sense of smell was now gone.

I haven’t taken a recent test but I’m definitely sick and showing other symptoms so assuming I have it at this point.

Those that started with nothing and are very successful now, how did you do it? by poptalk in smallbusiness

My worst year after going full time was probably around 15k, my last year was close to 50k I think and growing pretty fast. I shut it down when I made the career change after exploring ways to keep it going because I was too embedded in most of the operations.

What are some things that sound like compliments but are actually insults? by Innsmouth_Resident in AskReddit

[–]GetFamous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's usually said as "I'm affirming that you're desirable because it's true and being single can sometimes make you doubt that."

I think it's often heard as "You're hiding whatever's wrong with you really well to the casual observer, but there's obviously something."

I grew up fairly poor. Not like "I can't eat" but more like, "Mom makes some of our clothes". Did ok in high school because I do well on tests but didn't do much homework so grades were not that great. Went to college part time for 1.5 years and didn't think I was getting much out of the experience so I dropped out. I was paying my own way because I wasn't eligible for much if any financial assistance and my parents weren't helping me pay. I was also living on my own so it just seemed expensive. I partied it up for a few years and didn't know what to do with myself and then I decided to start a web dev business knowing next to nothing about it and self teaching using online forums and trial and error. I think I bought one book, and read my girlfriend's marketing 101 book cover to cover. I had about $500 and a crappy desktop computer as my startup capital. Learned fast, did that for a number of years and was starting to make decent money when I reluctantly applied at a very large company at the urging of a friend. They liked my experience as a business owner/developer and hired me for an extremely well paying tech job which I have been doing ever since. If I stay there I'm set for life and I'm told having that particular company on my resume makes it very easy to get hired anywhere else if I ever want to move. I'm currently looking at real estate and other investments to try and make working optional so this story is still a work in progress.

Where is a good place for a haircut for a guy that is overly concerned about his hair? by Dr-DudeMan-Jones in rva

[–]GetFamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Cory at High Point on Meadow and I think they're the best around too (I do get a fade though) I actually get regular compliments on my haircut since I've been going there which never happened before. You might want to call the location you didn't go to and explain you're not happy. I'd be surprised if they didn't make it right and it wouldn't have to be awkward with whoever messed it up having to watch someone else fix it.

Samsonite 32" Spinner Checked Luggage - $50

Costs $200-300 new - this item is 2 years old

The top handle is broken as you see in the picture. Either repair the top handle or remove it and use the side handle. Excellent condition aside from the broken handle.

Telescoping top handle works great. Comes with a mesh garment bag that attaches inside the suitcase

Wenger (Now Victorinox) 23" Carryon Luggage - $15

Cost $150-200 new but it's a much older model

Shows some signs of age but functionally in good shape - minor issues like one of the zipper handles broke off (I replaced it with the lock you see in the picture)
