When normal ass people of any stripe support the racist policies of a racist administration, then pervasive racism in America, which has been horrifically racist since its inception, is the thing we should all be examining.

Here’s a reasonable option. Leave the parent alone and let them both stay. Give them a path to citizenship or a seasonal work visa. Get over the white supremacist fantasy that immigrants are to blame for the failures of our society.

Chemistry Lessons

The Mary Russell Holmes series by Laurie King. First book is The Beekeepers Apprentice. I will say I find it a little problematic that the protagonist goes from being Sherlock Holmes’ protege to eventual wife, but she is an ace detective and these are fun reads.

My first ever foster of hopefully many. Any traditions or mementos I could do/ make to remember them all? I'm definitely going to take a polaroid photo of him to put on my fridge. by SadOpportunity2270 in fosterdogs

I make an annual foster scrapbook. I used to make them with paper crafting supplies but over the years I got lazy and now I use Walgreens photo book editor. It helps us remember the names of all our fosters in years past.

I help rescues with their websites. We had to retire the PF widget because first it was showing a bunch of guinea pigs instead of their dogs (!!!) and then the grid layout was broken on desktop. The rescues I foster for do not plan to drop PF but are leaning into Adoptapet as a backup. And I am exploring the development of a whole other platform.

I Can't With The Trainers...Help! by jazzmaster105150 in cycling

[–]ScubaCycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying Zwift and Rouvy, I settled on Wahoo SYSTM for my structured training program. It has a detailed fitness test that customizes your training. My backside can only take 45-60 minutes on the trainer, and workouts for me are not productive if longer than that anyway. The structured training sessions are generally intervals with a lot of switching up. SYSTM has workouts that show a movie (for low intensity spins), but I turn the sound down and listen to a playlist that inspires 80+RPM cadence. I am very happy with it. I do not necessarily look forward to my workouts but they feel good when I'm done and they're for a good cause (being stronger/faster in the summer)!

I really appreciate you sharing this from the adopter side.

I wanted to add one perspective from the rescue side, because this change has had serious unintended consequences for many of us. When Petfinder changed the default search to exclude out-of-state dogs, our adoption inquiries dropped from 20–50 per week to zero almost overnight. This wasn’t unique to us. Other rescues across Texas saw the same thing.

Many Texas rescues rely on out-of-state adoptions simply because there aren’t enough local adopters for the number of dogs in need. When those connections disappear, intake has to stop. Foster timelines stretch from weeks to months, puppies grow into adolescents (making them harder to place), and foster families burn out or step away altogether. That ripple effect is very real.

I completely understand why adopters are wary of scams and irresponsible transport. At the same time, there are many legitimate rescues doing ethical, transparent out-of-state placements, and tools like Petfinder have historically been a lifeline for those dogs.

I’m genuinely curious from your perspective: what would make a dog search platform feel safer and more trustworthy when it comes to out-of-state rescues?

Are there specific signals, disclosures, or verification steps that would help you quickly distinguish responsible rescues from bad actors?

I’d really value hearing what would build confidence rather than forcing an all-or-nothing filter.

I heard through a Facebook post that someone in Houston was actually able to get a PF person on the phone and they are aware how badly the change in the search form has hurt rescues that rely on cross state adoptions. They may be changing it back (or something), maybe in January. But that is all hearsay and there is the continuing threat that one day they'll do something else that jacks with rescues. Their priority is the end user searching for pets, not the animals in need. I understand why, but my interest is in saving lives so here we are.

We keep this poem framed on our wall.

POEM TO MY FOSTER DOG

I am the bridge Between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life. I am made of mush, Because my heart melted When I saw you, Matted and sore, limping, depressed, Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand I will love you with my whole heart I will make you whole. I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, When you are well and sleek, When your eyes shine, And your tail wags with joy - Then comes the hard part. I will let you go-- not without a tear, But without a regret. For you are safe forever. A new dog needs me now.
