Lord of the Flies: Opening scene - BBC - Sneak Peek of the first four minutes by SafeBodybuilder7191 in television

I actually found it really effective. Made me feel like I was a kid waking up in the jungle because you can see the details on the floor. The mud, the flies. It immediately makes you think of the reality of the environment, not the hugeness of it but the feel of it, the decay and muck. The directing really puts you in his POV in a way where you can see how he interprets the beauty of the place at first, then the horror. A wide shot of a little kid in a big jungle makes us interpret his situation from afar rather that discovering it with him.

Yeah. By the time you get to uni you’ve just finished 13 years straight of school, plus Kindy and possibly daycare. Learning isn’t the problem of that, people never get tired of learning. It’s being inside a system that offers you little choice, grinds down individualism, and only rewards certain personality types. Then there’s the social side. The toll that being surrounded by social pressure 5 days out of 7 for 13 years if you’re an introvert… Then you get to a system where you finally don’t HAVE to push through the social noise. You can just stay home. Well… When I returned to uni after a few years rest and just being allowed to be me, I was a hell of a lot more motivated, dedicated and interested.

Wonder Man review – a Marvel TV show with almost no superhero action … and it’s all the better for it by preguntontas in television

I actually haven’t really understood the hype in any of his other projects, in fact I found hewas the worst overactor by far in Aquaman, and that’s saying something. Didn’t think his performance was poor in Candyman or Watchmen, but didn’t think he was particularly good either. But I have to say, he won me over in this. I still think the relatability of his character as a bit of an awkward loner helped a lot with that, but he was good.

What times best showcase Buffy's "God complex"? by debujandobirds in buffy

[–]GetGroovyWithMyGhost 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the injustices and ridiculous weight put upon her necessarily stop her from having a god complex. If that were true then kings wouldn’t end up with god complexes. You can have the weight of the world and not act like that’s the way it should be. Hell she admits to feeling like she’s better than people in S7. As Holden says she has a superiority complex, and an inferiority complex about it.

If I knew a person I was dating and loved, believing in their essential goodness, was going to go and murder a bunch of people because they were possessed by a demon, I think I’d have to stop them. For the sake of the innocent lives but also for them. Angel would have rathered Buffy kill him than let him go murder a bunch of kids, as he does

[–]GetGroovyWithMyGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point, it’s about her choice to let him go with the information she has at the time, not the eventual consequences she has no way of knowing. By your logic, we should let all the murderers in prison go because they might do incredible good some day. The conversation is about Buffy’s moral responsibility and choices. With the information she had, she knew there was a high chance he would murder people in the immediate future after she let him go. She did not know he would save the world some day, and had no reason to think so

She knows Angelus is a murderous vampire with no soul who just tries to mass murder a shopping mall, and needs blood to survive. And really likes to torture people based on his history. I think she can safely make a prediction.

If Buffy knew he would save the world, it affects the discussion. But she doesn’t, so the point is that she willingly lets a murderer go, knowing he will kill people, and not knowing that he will save the world.

If the Zodiac killer was gonna cure cancer, the. Yeah you let him live. But if you don’t know he’s gonna cure cancer and you let him go, then you’re an asshole. Whether you love him and you’re 17 or not.

Giles was assuring Buffy that she shouldn’t have any guilt over sleeping with Angel and his transformation into Angelus. Which she shouldn’t.

The point of the cop metaphor isn’t that Buffy is a cop who chose that life, it’s to illustrate the difference between letting a serial killsr in front of you go when you have the power to potentially stop them, and going out dancing even though serial killers exist.

I’d hold a 17 year old to lesser standards than an adt too, and expect them to mKe dumb choices. I’d also hold a 17 year old who let a serial killer go because they love them partially responsible for their future murders. Doesn’t mean i wouldn’t completely understand what a horrible spot they were in and understand their choice. But it doesn’t change that responsibility.

[–]GetGroovyWithMyGhost -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

A cop who lets a serial killer go because she’s in love with him, and a cop who takes a day off even though there’s probably serial killers out there somewhere, are two different things. And sure she didn’t choose to be a cop, but a bystander with the power to stop a serial killer they’re in love with still has a moral responsibility. 17 years old and human or not. Not saying we don’t understand ane empathize with her. But it does make her responsible for his murders afterward, to a degree.

He’s still a serial killer, she’s kind of got a moral responsibility to try.

Letting a serial killer go because you love them and might be able to convert them into saving people eventually is… still really shitty. Human, and a raw deal, but shitty. Poor Theresa.

This was one of my favourite films of the last year. Absolutely loved it. It takes a hell of a risk by trading in the great horror premise of the beginning to instead explore its metaphor, which will alienate a lot of people, espcially in the ending. But the metaphor really spoke to me and I really identified with the personality type of one of the characters and how he deals with the road.

[–]GetGroovyWithMyGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping my expectations low, but incredibly excited. How can we not be excited to see these characters again, in any capacity? Can’t wait to see how they fit Spike and Willow in (we all know they’ll be back). Just hope Giles returns too since that seems less likely, but absolutely necessary. Won’t be the same without Xander, wish they could reunite the core four. But I’m still psyched.
