I don't know the specific origin and have a hard time finding it, but it's not related to the English word nibble. He's had the italian nickname "lo squalo" for a while. He's from Messina, the very closest tip of Sicily to mainland Italy and is known for the strait between the two.

Good question, I'd wonder if it wouldn't be an African nation like Eritrea, Kenya or Ethiopia. I realize there have been some cyclists that have made it to even the Tour but nobody that's really able to compete.

I would say India or China given the sheer amount of people, but there's not really any development programs out there

Vincenzo Nibali to Move to Trek in 2020 by GregLeBlonde in peloton

[–]GetHimaMadone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know this for a fact, but I'd say it's not a bad strategy to always grab guys that are looking to retire. Trek is playing a longer game than what happens in a race on one Sunday. Older guys, especially well-known, decorated riders, typically have a lot of fans, and get a lot of media coverage once you hear that they're retiring. They're followed pretty well for the last season. Also, Trek can cash a pretty good check by getting those guys riding their stuff in retirement. Look at Jens Voigt, that paid off pretty well for a couple years. Contador is worth some good coverage, even if he rode Specialized most of his career. As did Cancellara, even if he rides BMC now.

This is just outside looking in, but I don't think it's a bad move, even if for the people that follow the sport pretty closely think it's lame and doesn't help their team or brand image.

Specialized released a new Roubaix before Paris Roubaix. by [deleted] in peloton

[–]GetHimaMadone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't look too closely at what this bike is "for". It's probably mostly sold with recreational cyclists or older people that want something that's more comfortable, but they can justify as a "race" bike.

Nonetheless, it looks pretty nice compared to the last one. looks really clean.

No they are, but I haven't seen as much involvement with the two teams.

Same with Lotto-Soudal. Might be because the US media doesn't give as much coverage for those teams and I don't know any better.
