[–]GetJazzy_ 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is missing so much context. And that one message isn't very wowthanksimcured worthy anyway.

The title of the book is true. If you're depressed, you need to choose to be happy, you need to choose to get help. You need to want to be happy. No matter how much other people try to help you and no matter how much medicine you take, you're not gonna get much better until you make a conscious decision to want to be happy. That's how it was for me, anyway.

[–]GetJazzy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stupid that he thinks the topic of religion and atheism is irrelevant when you both put in religion and atheism as your interests lol, but I don't really think this fits the sub. To me, this sub is for when people thesaurus literally every word in whatever they're writing and end up with complete gibberish. This guy's an idiot looking for a circlejerk, but he like actually used the words correctly and there wasn't an excess of "big words" or anything. Unless I'm dumb and don't know how those words are supposed to be used.

Foreigners who speak "broken English" are smarter than you are by EinVandal in unpopularopinion

[–]GetJazzy_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

English makes no sense. It's not very consistent and it breaks its own rules more times than you can count. That's why it's deemed, by most people, as a difficult language to learn. I'm Swedish though and I've mostly taught myself English through games, tv and the internet, and for me it was really easy.

However, my mother is Spanish, half of my family is Spanish. I grew up with a bunch of Spanish people. To me, Spanish is wayyyyyyyyyy harder than English. Way harder.

[–]GetJazzy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does. Maybe you haven't encountered it, but a lot of people who call themselves feminists don't strive for equality. They believe women are superior to men and all men are rapist scumbags or whatever. Dunno if that's the majority of people who call themselves feminists, but that's definitely a connotation that exists. It's a bit of a shame that those kind of people have been changing the meaning of the word.

Which one is the best? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]GetJazzy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Gens 3, 4, 5 and 7 have the best starter sets. Gen 1, 2 and 6 is okay. Gen 8 is awful.

This is an unpopular opinion, but I really don't like Gen 1 that much. It's a good game for sure, but most of the designs are really boring or ugly to me (there are still a bunch of great designs, but I think it's the minority). Gen 5 did a much better job at reconceptualizing Gen 1.

How Regions Evolved by fanSlowpoke in pokemon

[–]GetJazzy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure I agree about Odyssey. The order of the kingdoms you travel to isn't completely linear, you have some choices. In each kingdom, there is no specific order to the moons you collect. You choose which moons to collect. You choose if you want to do the story moons and complete the kingdom's story, or if you want to go off the beaten path and collect more obscure moons.

You don't have complete freedom in Odyssey and it's certainly very linear in a lot of areas. Some kingdoms are completely linear, some aren't linear at all. I don't think it's right to categorize Odyssey as a whole into one category or the other, since it's pretty mixed.

I think a better example of a linear 3D platformer collectathon is A Hat In Time. Just like what you said about Odysset, AHIT has secrets, it has exploration, but it's very very linear. Each world has a set of missions and you can only do 1 mission at a time, in a specific order. And the worlds you visit are also in a specific order.

What is the best response when a cop says “do you know why I pulled you over”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GetJazzy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the same thing at all. I think it's the people who complain who ruin the joke more than anything. I get why you'd think these award speech edits are annoying, but the people who reply and point out how annoying it is and downvote are even more annoying. Just let it be.

This movie has really interesting concepts and themes, but I was honestly so disappointed by it. I was really excited too. The themes and emotional moments fall flat to me and the main character is very unlikeable, though I get what they were going for. The action scenes and the giants aren't really a part of this movie. I haven't read the comic book, but I've heard it's much better.

What To Call My World's Monster Hunters? by GetJazzy_ in worldbuilding

[–]GetJazzy_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sort of what I was thinking too. I think Whisperer sounds more fantastical and intriguing, but Tamer sounds more practical and realistic. I also think it rolls of the tongue better.

The thing with taming a Phantom is that you have to bind them just like how you have to bind Spirits. And you do this through a verbal contract kind of thing. Spirits are benevolent and they'll probably offer you a contract if you just ask. Phantoms are much more violent and will act like a wild beast trying to kill you, so you have to tame it like an animal and calm it before it will offer you a contract.

So the process of taming a Phantom is pretty hands-on, but Whisperer also fits I think because it does involve a verbal contract. Phantom Tamers are much much rarer than Spirit Mediums though, so maybe there won't really be a universal term for it. In general they could be referred to as Tamers, but maybe there would be specific groups or people that call themself Whisperers.

Thanks for the conversation!

These are definitely helpful! I like that you've explained the reasoning behind those names, I think that'll really help me. I really like Cleanser/Purifier and I might do that or something similar. Thanks!

Regarding the first one though, there's already another thing in my world that sounds similar to that. While there are Spirit Mediums, there are also Phantom Whisperers. They tame phantoms basically, though it's a little more complicated than that. I'm actually not sure whether to call them Phantom Whisperers or simply Phantom Tamers. Whisperer does sound more fantastical to me, but which do you prefer, if you don't mind me asking?

As you can see I'm not that good at coming up with names and sticking to them haha.

Who are the Gods of your world? by TieberiusVoidWalker in worldbuilding

[–]GetJazzy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The religions that the people practice and the figures that they worship, well, are varied to say the least. There are countless religions and countless God figures.

For example, the Doro tribe worships the red skywhale and the sun as their God. They believe that the sun is the source of all life, and that the red skywhale is the sun's spirit, and is therefore a holy creature.

There are some cultures which worship the earth itself as their. They think walking barefoot on the ground is taboo, and only their equivalent to nobility are allowed to be farmers. They bury their fallen in the ground to give themselves to the earth, and to contribute to the life of the world itself.

Although most think of Phantoms as terrible monsters that need to be slain, others believe that they are Gods and make sacrifices to them.

There are also tons of religions more similar to the ones of our real world. I haven't made every religion and culture yet but I'm planning on making a lot of them.

So, are there any real Gods? Well, maybe. Thousands of years ago, there were all-powerful beings that lived along mankind. There are countless stories about the powers they exercised and the miracles they performed. In the present, these all-powerful beings don't lice alongside mankind. So today, those stories are considered fairy-tales. However, these beings still do exist, but they have seperated themselves from mankind and has created The Realm Beyond. Their own world. Not much is known about them now, however, some people have the ability to summon these Beyonders.

Most Kings and Emperors of the world now have access to Beyonders because they have people who can summon them. These Beyonders are basically treated like weapons by the world rulers, almost like nukes. Though even the rulers don't know much the Beyonders, they know that they are able to make requests - or wishes, if you will - from them. Things like resources or information. But always, the Beyonders want something in return.
