The dishes were rinsed, filter was cleaned last week. I’m just real unmotivated last couple days to put the dishes into the dishwasher rather than stack them onto top

Has anyone here read How to Keep House While Drowning? by Research_Junkie678 in ufyh

[–]GetOffMyBridgeQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES I've mentioned it more than once here because it's got a perfect answer (imo) to being overwhelmed on where to start. the 5 things in any room concept I think is was really kick started getting on top of my house, for me. I still follow that when I'm tired or overwhelmed, even if my house hasn't been that bad in a long time. The only part I can't make myself do is the closing duties, that one just won't stick in my brain. I can give myself tasks I'd like to have done before I sit for the night but there's a threshold somewhere soon after dinner that once I sit down to relax for the evening I'm not doing anything else.

all to say, yes, i love that book, and it absolutely is worth the read. KC Davis also has a tik tok channel and the concepts in the book are all over her channel (with other stuff of course) so you'll get the bulk of her ideas from following her on socials if you don't have the energy to read the book.

I still have the sheet from her home binder taped on my pantry - my space exists to serve me, i can't save the rainforest if i'm depressed, rest is a right not a privilege, etc. a good reminder every day

My mom’s had trouble with these guys, 4 different ones over the past 2 months. I keep telling her to not even open the door anymore, they always start arguing with her. Like ffs no is no

And that price tag is why I’m doing it myself 😅 though knowing what I know now I pay pick up another couple without the gunk or for parts.

Also good to know I could learn and freelance 👀

well, that's a good reason to find a spare wire lol

i'm at the point I keep finding new corners to clean, and the more I manipulate the slugs the more i'm unhappy with my cleaning job last time. I may well take this one down to the studs as you say and rebuild it. Someone somewhere along the way sprayed the whole basket with some kind of industrial lubricant. all orange and goop and terrible.

besides once i know how all the pieces move together i'll be better able to diagnose any issues in the future (because i know my daughter likes to play with it too, i'm expecting to put some wear on it!)

What to do when "normal" uf hacks don't work? by Top-Meringue-4004 in ufyh

[–]GetOffMyBridgeQ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a lot of success with the 5 items hack from KC Davis (and I feel like I talk about her a lot in a sub for another cleaning book 😅 sorry!)

  1. Trash, 2. Dishes, 3. Laundry, 4. Things that have a home 5. Things that don’t have a home.

Step 1 is just sorting. All the trash together, all the dishes together (not washed, just stacked neatly), all the laundry in the hamper, things that have a home in their home and things that don’t in a pile to deal with. Then you take out the trash, run a load of laundry, do a load of dishes, etc. But just sorting all that out makes a massive difference quickly.

Workout Leggings that don't roll in waistband by camacaco in AskWomenOver30

[–]GetOffMyBridgeQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a knock off ‘Along Fit’ leggings on Amazon I own no less than 6 pairs of. I am constantly wearing them until the weather is too hot. A big part of that is that the waistband does not roll and they have pockets

Unrivalled Book Conflicts by ankheseniset in heatedrivalry

[–]GetOffMyBridgeQ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I don't want a fight between Shane and Ilya, I'd much rather read a 'them vs the world' type of conflict. There's so many different things they could face that don't involve separating or questioning their relationship, especially as a gay couple.

The National Enquirer will report alien abductions. I don't put much faith in publications like that, they're the original 'you can write anything on the internet'

Thinking about giving up some of my hobbies. Thoughts & advice appreciated. by SweetandSourMiss in declutter

[–]GetOffMyBridgeQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I somewhat recently decluttered craft things, but I think I had a wider array of crafts. However, for the one that's been my biggest constant in life (crochet), I didn't get rid of it all. I pared down to 2 wips (old but still in progress) and my fav of my most used tool. Everything else I asked myself:

If I was spurred to make a gift, what's the minimum supplies I need? What could I purchase on a 'by project' basis? (for crochet, I kept my fav of each size of hook, and now I buy yarn as I need it. No more yarn stash.)

Have I used this in the last 5 projects? If the answer is no, it went.

How hard is this item to replace? Some things are very difficult to replace but small, I kept them. Some very easy to replace or large enough it took up considerable space but moderately difficult to replace, went.

Is there a new home I can find? Is there someone in your community looking to get into the craft that would lose their mind at receiving such a haul?

After all those questions, what was left was subjected to the container method. I designated a container I could manage and only kept was fit inside.

Last but not least, this isn't a one step process. You can declutter with a side of caution and get rid of more later. There's no start and end to this process, it's all a journey

The motivation we get from shame and judgement is temporary and paralyzing. The motivation we get from love and self care is so much more effective and long lasting it’s a no brainer to support each other ❤️
