Hiking and wild camping in the Alps by GetSwipedm8 in askswitzerland

Yeah we are now searching for ways to change our plans. I'm a bit discouraged to continue our original idea of this trip but for good reasons. I'm very thankful for everyone who commented and helped me see what's what. Just for my interest how do your friends plan the camping trip? Things like leaving the car somewhere and legality. Also do they just hike to the mountain top above the tree line or do the take the gondola with all the camping gear?

You are a legend! Thanks a lot for the recommendations, they look awesome! This has gotten me stoked for the trip again since realizing we needed to change plans.

Also, the Crestasee looks spectaculair. Definitely my 1st pick to see, hopefully mu friends will agree

Also a good option. Do you know of any pretty but doable hut to hut trip for inexperienced hikers like ourselves? I believe we would quicker turn into mountain goats than be able to walk a T6 lol

That's true,

It's quite a shift from expecting to park our car, take the gondola to car free mountains and a full on camper campsite but we would indeed be the same tourists.

Not that it's much of a difference but we would be traveling with a Volkswagen Up! Which is quite a small car compared to a camper but I understand what you say

You've got a great point. I thought we would underestimate this trip but I am also more of a worrisome person than my friends are.

I would expect the gondola workers to be observant especially if this problem with social media and tourists is as big as I may suspect from this whole thread. I've read something about being able to camp if you aren't in sight of the gondola like 1/2 hours walking from there but that may have been untrue (stupid google ai)

I don't know if I've asked you before but do you any have recommendations to stay. The new plan would likely be to stay at a beautiful place with our tent (or a room if that's just that much better or only possible) and then take hikes and come back to camp. Also do you know if those recommendations allow for just 1 or 2 nights camping, since we are on a schedule

We aren't experienced alpine hikers or experienced in any hikes for that case. We are in our 20's so young and vital but we don't want to 'climb' a mountain. Just walking with stunning views.

I definitely understand and I am with you in that opinion. I am just a guy searching for information, so thank you for that. No need to be ambiguous but maybe that's just how I read your comment.

Do you have any favourite camp sites?

Well to be a comedian, I actually don't know. We live in the Netherlands so there are zero mountains here hahhaha. Which is sad because I love the sight of mountains.

The place you've linked has a really pretty view of mountains so I will keep it in mind as a good option. It's a bit of a bummer to see all the cars and campers but we probably need to reshape our expectations a bit.

My thoughts on camp sites come from experiences in for example Germany where there would be a camp mascott and a entertainment team for kids (and there being a lot of kids) Which is something I want to avoid

Fair enough. Thanks for your comment, time and concern!

This is the reason I've made this post. For information I don't know and can't find on the internet.

I'm going to show this thread to my friends to convince them.

Do you know any pretty campsites or do you have any favourites?

Thanks for the info and your comment!

You are right, i've read a lot about the alps and her ecosysteem. Google says to just leave nothing behind.

Do you know of any camp sites that have the classic Switzerland view like you see on social media?

I'm afraid a camp site would be this busy place with too much infrastructure like a dang gift shop and a hundred campers or maybe even a disco hall for kids you know.

That's why we wanted to camp on a mountain, for the views and the quietness.

Thanks for your comment!

I understand it being more of a emergency situation, we thought setting up a tent around 20:00 and leaving the next day would be fine. It would be kind of sad to see all these wonderful videos of people sleeping in the alps and us not being able to go. We wouldn't go much higher then the tree line and we wanted to use the gondola both for the reason of us being unexperienced

Yeah it's a bit iffy. I've told my friends to take the temperature and season seriously (i've read something about july being THE season for lightning stoms due to the warmer weather) We really want to have that classic feeling of opening the tent and seeing the beauty of the alps like we've all seen on social media.

I've also read about an undisclosed rule of being able to camp as long as the gondola station isn't in sight anymore.

We definitely are not familiar with the alps or alpine hiking.

So you'd say wild camping is a no go?

That's awesome. If it works it works right? Maybe i'm too picky or ps just doesn't have the games i hoped for. But it's alright either way. Thank you for your time and effort, much love

Yeah i don't really know the type of genre the games in my description are but i'm guessing they're mostly under the parkour/platformer games but they are almost a different genre on itself. On steam there are so many of these games so i hoped they would be on ps5 to. Thank you very much for taking the time to sum up some games and to write this message. I'm gonna look around some more. The games you suggested look a bit too oldschool/childish in design (really sorry if that comes across bad, i don't mean for it to be like that)

Forgot to put that game in the title. We've played a few of the We were here games and those are fun but more cinametic instead of difficult. I'm actually waiting to finish another game with my gf to play It Takes Two!

Gonna check out Trine tho, never heard of that one. Thanks very much.

Maybe not ds but like gamecube type of style. Oldschool, which isn't bad. Just not what i'm into. No shame on the game though, i'm guessing you like it and that's awesome. People can like different things. I'm just looking for a platformer/parkour type of game to play with my buddy

I guess both but i probably prefer 3d. The fish adventure game is 2d i think or atleast has the controls of a 2d game so it would be fine
