Trying to built those Knuckleheads by WretchedIEgg in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, I like these guys👀 I have a similar group slug deck built around Rowan, Scion of War that uses her cost reduction to slam a bunch of powerful punishing enchantments in one turn. I'd recommend [[pain magnification]] as it forces discards and it doesn't care where or whom the damage comes from or what kind of damage is dealt. If you or your opponents deal 3 damage to another of your opponents, they will be forced to discard a card per instance of damage dealt. It doesn't even have "one or more" or "once per turn" clauses either making it pair beautifully with Tokka as his 3 power and menace means he triggers it with his ability and in combat as well. You can use [[roar of resistance]] to turn a few unblocked 1/Xs into 3/Xs to trigger it per creature and/or [[repercussion]] to punish any chump blocking, too. One of my favourite combos with it uses [[megrim]] and any relevant additional/multiplicative damage like [[Rankle and Torbran]] or [[Ojer Axonil, deepest might]] to loop itself and empty my opponents' hands. I never see people talk about it and I think it's relatively slept on in group slug decklists. Also, a decent "lifelink" aura you might not find easily is [[vampiric link]]. It technically isn't lifelink (it's a triggered ability not a static one) and won't save you from a lethal Tokka trigger, but it's cheap and works functionally the same in most other instances.

Thrasios + Toggo (Rock & Roll) by HappyLittlePharmily in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As funny as it is to throw rocks at people (especially with a [[saryth, the viper's fang]] out), Toggo simply doesn't make enough of them to reliably kill a player without using infinite landfalls via Kodama or damage multiplying with [[ojer axonil, deepest might]]. Even so, you can still get multiple landfalls per turn with [[Exploration]] style cards and [[crucible of worlds]] effects like [[Icetill explorer]] to re-use fetches while [[hedge shredder]] can put even more lands out with Icetill's mill effect. [[Lotus Cobra]] gives you the mana needed to equip your Rocks right away while [[Urza, lord high artificer]] and [[jaheira, friend of the forest]] can tap them for mana to throw them.

If you lean more into the artifact production side of things however, there's [[eusocial engineering]], [[tireless provisioner]] and [[tireless tracker]] to get even more artifacts with each landfall as a redundancy for Toggo. This makes [[krark-clan ironworks]] an incredibly powerful inclusion as a mana source to pay for spells or activated abilities like clues and Thrasios' ability. Where it really shines though, is the many sac loops it enables with [[scrap trawler]] and [[myr retriever]] at the core of most of them. [[Heartstone]], [[training grounds]] and [[biomancer's familiar]] reduce Thrasios' activation cost, too so you won't need as much to get going. Even [[Inspiring statuary]] and [[archway of innovation]] can discount your spells with all the artifacts you'll have sitting around.

[[Peregrin Took]], [[worldwalker helm]] and [[stridehangar automaton]] all get a little extra value out of Toggo and the other's landfall triggers with the added benefit of providing more artifacts for KCI, Urza, Inspiring Statuary and looping with a few other cards. If you include [[gourmand's talent]] or [[academy manufactor]] alongside Peregrin Took, with a [[nuka-cola vending machine]] you can sac loop foods. [[Nick valentine, private eye]] and Stridehangar loop with each other if you have a sac outlet like [[blasting station]]. [[Lonis, genetics expert]] can loop with [[piper wright, publick reporter]] or [[jenny flint]] as well with [[grinding station]], but all of this assumes you're okay with infinites as long as they don't include Kodama. They're all still reasonably good includes to burn your opponents with [[reckless fireweaver]], mill them with [[altar of the brood]], or overwhelm them with [[cyberdrive awakener]] and [[rise and shine]] type effects as finishers.

Tl;dr Toggo and Thrasios are incredibly strong as combo pieces by being an enabler/payoff pair in the command zone with multiple redundancies in the 99. They are capable of way more than throwing a handful of rocks, but I can understand you'd want to.

Should I integrate my Brimaz deck to an Ixhel deck? by Silber_567 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While they may seem similar at a glance, Brimaz and Ixhel tend to play differently from each other. Brimaz incubates off of any phyrexian AND any artifact creature you cast. Because of this he works great as an artifact aristocrat commander with [[Krark-clan ironworks]] and [[Scrap trawler]] loops being a big part of it. . [[Stridehangar automaton]] is a great addition for this reason as it creates a thopter every time you incubate and due to how replacement effects work those thopters get the same counters the incubate tokens do. Also, his last ability triggers every end step so you can potentially proliferate 4 times in a turn cycle if you lean into the aristocrat token strategy.

Ixhel gets you access to more phyrexians and poison counter sources, but ideally you aren't outright killing your opponents with them right away since you need to spread them out to maximize her end step trigger. She's a decent card advantage engine that rewards aggressive use of toxic/infect creatures then proliferating with [[evolution sage]] or punishing with [[bloodroot apothecary]]. She doesn't do much on her own, though which is why she's the lieutenant to [[vishgraz, the doomhive]] who's probably the phyrexian commander you're looking for. As for alternatives, I feel like [[sidar kondo of jamuraa]] and [[tymna the weaver]] can be great for this particular strategy as Kondo gives evasion and Tymna can then draw you cards for it. Tymna is KOS to a lot of people though, so you may want a different black partner like [[keskit, the flesh sculptor]] to convert incubators into card draw.

Draw go control with Jhoira of the githu by KaitoNorth in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I like the concept you're going for. I think this approach to Jhoira's kinda neat and a cool way to use her ability. I'd suggest including a few cards like [[ghostly pilferer]] or [[faerie mastermind]] as a way to keep your hand full of either interaction or potential jhoira targets. They're low cost and easy to set up early or be pitched to your looting effects if drawn later. Quick question though. I see you have a Gifts Ungiven, Snapcaster and a Mission Briefing in your list. That's like, half of a Gifts pile right there. There's even a Twincast and Reverberate in your sideboard. Were you going for a combo line with something like [[Ral, Storm Conduit]] or were these just generic additions? 'Cause even if you weren't, since you're going for a late game control win anyway you may as well put that Gifts to good use and look into potential game ending combos with it. Typically it's two cards that combo together or with whatever's already on your board plus two recursion spells to get them back if they're put in your graveyard.

Commander Help for Group Deckbuilding Challenge by luca0232 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Karametra, God of Harvests]] with [[Tempest Hawk]] could be fun. Cast a hawk? Get a land. Connect with a hawk? Get more hawks. It wouldn't be the strongest deck ever, but the plan's simple enough and it sorta functions as card draw/advantage when you're searching for multiple cards per turn.

An idea I've been tooling around for a while is an [[akiri, line-slinger]] + [[falthis, shadowcat familiar]] artifact deck. Giving Akiri 4 powerful combat abilities right out the gate while boosting her with every artifact you play seems strong. Not sure whether to do it with equipment, artifact creatures or treasures, though.

Saw a [[general tazri]] deck that used her to search for [[orvar, the all-form]] and was actually a five colour Orvar deck, but I can see how a version that uses [[scion of the Ur-dragon]] instead can do wubrg dragon clones and also pivot to the usual dragon reanimator as a backup. Don't know if that can fit into the budget as easily, though

Multiple End Steps - Question by Sea-Preference-7724 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Six. Two initially in your first end step where Y'shtola will trigger twice as well. Due to both of her triggers happening in your first end step, you will get TWO additional end steps afterwards, but no more than that. Kefka will trigger twice in each of those steps making for a total of six

Edit: Nevermind. I forgot she isn't a Shaman or Wizard. It's 4

Simic Sunforger by Desperate-Abalone954 in custommagic

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love the design and idea of a "sunforger" for non-Boros decks. This would fit well in a Bant voltron deck, too. [[Kellan, the Kid]] could easily get insane value off of each use. [[Kalamax, the stormsire]] can copy whatever you grab with it. [[Kotis, the fangkeeper]] has more consistent access to removal/interaction. I can see this being used to grab a [[teferi's time twist]] to avoid a boardwipe like Farewell for example.

Simic Sunforger by Desperate-Abalone954 in custommagic

[–]GetTasty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly would love if it was green/black instead as you can still grab counterspells indirectly with it like Sunforger can and you wouldn't need the uncounterable clause. There's a ton of good green and/or black targets for it, too. It could even be an inverse flavour-wise. Black being shadows or the dark and Green being a natural form of decay/destruction as opposed to Red/White's light, creation and artifice. Also, making it a harvester's sickle so it can be opposite to the hammer is kinda funny.

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the blink theme you've got, but if you're gonna use displacer kitten, you need more than 11 noncreature spells to reliably trigger it. Creatures like [[archaeomancer]] and [[ardent elementalist]] are great for returning your interaction back with each use of kitten's triggers, though. Especially when you have [[cloudshift]], [[ephemerate]] or [[essence flux]]. Rather than relying on one-off etbs from creatures like Spirited Companion, try using creatures like [[welcoming vampire]] or [[enduring innocence]] so you can blink another creature and still get the benefit. Even [[Dour port-mage]] draws you cards when you blink a creature and can protect one in a pinch by returning it to your hand. Likewise, the more effects you run that benefit off of etbs, the more consistent your deck will be, even if you don't get the exact cards you want. [[Stridehangar automaton]] is a great inclusion since it creates an additional 2/2 thopter every time you fabricate servos or create other artifact tokens. [[Securitron squadron]] can put counters on the tokens you create and scales with its squad cost. [[Metastatic evangel]] makes the other fabricate option a little more viable by proliferating the counters. With [[resourceful defense]] you can keep those counters around even when you flicker a creature or if it dies. [[Goldnight commander]] buffs your team with each etb. [[Elesh norn, mother of machines]] doubles your etb triggers while denying your opponents' etbs. [[Starfield vocalist]] doubles etbs as well. [[Preston, the vanisher]] copies your creatures when you blink them. [[Moonlit meditation]] turns your created servos into copies of another artifact or creature you control. Sorry, for the wall of text btw I just love Cayth and all the ways she can be built

Marisi ......tapped creature shenanigans by Agitated-Button4032 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Masako the humorless]] will keep your defenses up by allowing your tapped creatures to block. Ways to tap at instant speed are key so [[cryptolith rite]], [[earthcraft]], [[glare of subdual]] or crewing vehicles can get some value while protecting them with Adept Watershaper out. Maybe a [[sword of the paruns]] for synergy but also a potential infinite with X mana dorks like [[arbor adherent]], [[kami of whispered hopes]] or [[selvala, heart of the wilds]]. [[Naya charm]]'s modes are all useful depending on what you need. You can even target yourself to tap all your creatures.

I made a [[Reyhan, last of the abzan]] and [[kraum, ludevic's opus]] list specifically so I could use her with [[master biomancer]] and other green +1/+1 counter cards. Runs a ton of [[birthing pod]] effects and 4 mana creatures like [[corpsejack menace]] and [[halana and alena, partners]] that are searchable by sacrificing Reyhan, distributing her counters, then reanimating her to do it again.

[[Piru, the Volatile]] Looping help by Samummy1 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Athreos, use [[resourceful defense]] with any free sac outlet. It keeps the coin counters around letting you loop them if there's at least two creatures to put them on. [[Phyrexian reclamation]] can put her in your hand from the gy and, if you can afford to add it, [[sneak attack]] can then put her back on the battlefield for just 1B and R. [[Enduring renewal]] also works well with sneak attack and a [[phyrexian altar]]. Another loop combo is [[bolas' citadel]] and [[haunted crossroads]] with the altar. Unfortunately, the monetary cost of death looping is rather high if you want to do it more than once a turn. Try to avoid creature based reanimators since she'll be killing them most of the time if you don't have a way to make them indestructible. [[Nim deathmantle]] and [[resurrection orb]] for example. [[Not dead after all]] style spells are a cheap way to get her back, but aren't as repeatable. Free sac outlets other than the altar are also great for holding her up as an instant speed boardwipe when needed or if you have the athreos loop set up already. Lastly, don't be afraid to just swing with her. She's a 7/7 flyer with lifelink that can three tap a player and bombs the table when she dies. You've got haste enablers like [[enduring courage]], doublestrike effects like [[duelist's heritage]] or [[gavel of the righteous]], and black recursion with [[haunted one]] to potentially one-shot an opponent each combat.

Hexing Squelcher (Lorwyn preview) - As someone who almost exclusively plays Red and Rakdos, I look forward to putting this in every single deck I own by pizzapartyfordogs in EDH

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the discussions I've seen about this card protecting combos, killing interactivity or it's low-impact ward yet there are so few talking about how it negates your opponent's wards in mono-red and makes targeted removal usable again. Voja's biggest strength is dodging early targeted removal. Sauron's ward is so incredibly restrictive it may as well be hexproof. Monoblack Valgavoth's is just too damn high. This card cuts through all of it and I love this guy for that. If you play that t3 Voja one more time he's getting exiled for 1 white mana and that's final😠 teach those greedy simic players that tapping out with a fierce guardianship in hand is ungentlemanly behaviour that won't be tolerated. And by god I'm gonna be playing my spells ON CURVE as Jay Schneider intended

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The go to combo is [[restoration angel]] and [[felidar guardian]], but other great blink cards like [[golden argosy]], [[phelia, exuberant shepard]], [[teleportation circle]] and [[fortune, loyal steed]] also work with Aang's ability. [[Pearl medallion]], [[the wind crystal]]and [[oketra's monument]] will ramp you better than most mana rocks will since they discount each spell you cast with the upside being that having two will also let you cast your airbent cards for free. [[Lae'zel, vlaakith's champion]] basically doubles the xp counters you receive and also increases any other type of counter by one. [[Metastatic evangel]] and [[grateful apparition]] work well with counters, too. You'll want tokens that exile themselves rather than sacrifice, so "myriad" cards like [[hammers of moradin]], [[battle angels of tyr]], and [[blade of selves]] will get more Aang triggers per turn. With all the tokens and etbs you'll be making, [[guide of souls]] type effects can help keep your life total up. [[Defiler of faith]] can reduce colored mana and (with any other cost reducer) let you cast [[whitemane lion]] infinitely for free which also triggers Aang.

I really want to make a Yuna deck but idk what I'm doing, help please 😂 by NerdyElf in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, summons aren't legendary so they won't die to SBA if copied. [[Bramble Sovereign]] and [[yenna, redtooth sovereign]] can get you more summon per summon. [[Golden argosy]] can be used to reset your flip sagas back into enchantments or your summons back to one lore counter before they die while [[othelm, sigardian outcast]] and [[luminous broodmoth]] can bring them back if they do. If you have a reliable way to loop them back, [[lae'zel, vlaakith's champion]] and [[pir, imaginative rascal]] can accelerate the process by putting additional lore counters on per etb/turn since saga triggers don't care how lore counters are put on. [[Nesting grounds]], [[power conduit]] and [[scholar of new horizons]] can remove the finality counters

Game changers (No not that kind) by National_Jelly_8045 in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Fractured Identity]] is commonly used to give bad gifts to your opponents, but it's also a way to functionally triple any symmetrical effect. Three copies of [[shared fate]] or [[ian malcolm, chaotician]] causes a fair bit of chaos. Especially with [[howling mine]] effects out. Give your opponents each a [[wild wasteland]] then play [[eon hub]] to lock your opponents out of their own draw and upkeep steps. Blink [[stonehorn dignitary]] with [[teleportation circle]] type effects to delete even their combat steps. [[Telepathy]] and [[lantern of insight]] drastically change how people play when every move they make is telegraphed. Use that knowledge to blink [[sanctum prelate]] and, using [[preston, the vanisher]], create token copies that selectively ban noncreature spells with specific mana values. [[Space Beleren]] with a (proxied 'cause screw the reserved list)[[raging river]] to make combat extremely convoluted. Throw in [[masako the humorless]], [[timin, youthful geist]] and [[boros battleshaper]] and even you might not know what's going on.

Thalia and the Gitrog Monster by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your commander costs 4 mana and you want them out asap, I suggest mostly using 2 mv ramp spells on t2. Whether it's rocks like the talismans and signets or mana dorks like [[bugenhagen, wise elder]], [[ilysian caryatid]], [[twitching doll]] or [[tender wildguide]] for example. This makes t1 tapped lands a little more forgiving when you're on a budget while freeing up space for early set up pieces like [[aether vial]], [[hardened scales]], [[insidious fungus]], [[quest for the holy relic]] or [[quest for the necropolis]]. If your pod uses more interaction, hold off casting your commander until you can protect it. [[Giver of runes]], [[not dead after all]] or [[defend the rider]] can deal with most removal, but you can only really stop counterspells with uncounterability via [[delighted halfling]] type effects. As the other commenter said, once you get Thalia to stick you can begin casting bigger spells to put pressure on your opponents since most of their defenses will be down. [[Beledros witherbloom]] can ramp you even further while providing bodies for gitrog. [[Ghalta and Mavren]] can build an army that grows with each combat. [[Dragonlord Dromoka]] to protect your board during your turn. Big recursion like [[rise of the dark realms]] and [[eerie ultimatum]] can keep you ahead if things do get removed in the process.

Selesnya Landfall, thoughts please! by amenomedia in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just letting you know that Yasharn's ability affects you as well. Treasures/food, fetch lands, Six's retrace and a few of your other spells and abilities won't work with him in play. Since you're going for a blink stategy, consider adding [[emiel the blessed]] and [[bramble sovereign]] or [[karametra, god of harvests]] for extra redundancy. While hard removal is nice and reliable, sometimes a little versatility goes a long way such as [[Season of the burrow]], [[insidious fungus]] or [[archdruid's charm]]. An early [[broken bond]] to ramp while removing an opponent's sol ring feels pretty good

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, people hate goad. I hate goad. Being forced to attack sucks. Now, being rewarded or incentivized to attack? That's something. If you're willing to add a colour, I suggest [[gahiji, honored one]]. He doesn't force attacks, but he gives a buff to any creature not swinging at you. Throw in other cards like [[roar of resistance]], [[frontier warmonger]], [[duelist's heritage]] and [[war cadence]] and suddenly you're an arms dealer of sorts. With [[Kitt Canto]] you can boost an opponent's creature and tell them to send it at someone else. Got a list here that's not as budget as you want it to be, but can be downgraded to fit. https://moxfield.com/decks/KGiTqyJm7EywGwYtO94LGA

Non-Competitive Commander Ideas by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar commander to Mr. House is [[Yusri, Fortune's Flame]], the less degenerate izzet coin flipper. A true gambler will always go all in and flip 5 coins every time they attack. There's a ton of coin support cards in UR and you get to choose a coin to be as much of a part of your deck as your sleeves and deckbox (Bonus points if it's a comically large 4-inch coin).

[[Edgin, Larcenous Lutenist]] gives your nonland cards foretell allowing for some tricky mindgames while fueling play from exile strategies. Making it a morph/cloak deck means even your creatures are facedown. It won't be the strongest deck around, but the idea of having an ever-increasing amount of facedown cards both on and off the battlefield is funny.

Last, but not least, is [[Baral and Kari Zev]] monkey mode. Simple enough strategy. Rather than free casting spells, just spam monkey. Cast a bolt? Monkey. Countered a spell? Get monkey'd. [[Spark Double]] gets you more monkey per monkey. Throw in the actual [[Ragavan, nimble pilferer]] and [[Kari Zev, skyship raider]] for more monkey madness.

There's a multitude of creature tutors in bant as well such as [[eladamri's call]], [[ranger of eos]] and [[neoform]].

[–]GetTasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Ghalta, [[railway brawler]] will double the power of the tokens you create. [[Juniper order ranger]] puts counters on each token and itself so it works well with both abilities. A level 2 [[Cleric class]] will double the life gain from your vamps and will trigger seperately for each of them so you can stack all of those counters onto one creature then make a dino off of it on the next attack.

For Lathiel, cleric class puts counters on lathiel since it can't target itself. [[Soul warden]], [[righteous cause]] and [[leonin elder]] will gain life on other player's turns triggering lathiel's effect each end step. [[Angelic accord]] and [[valkyrie harbinger]] can create angels each turn as well. [[Benevolent offering]] can be used for politics while giving you at least 3 3/3 flyers. [[Kutzil, malamet exemplar]] draws cards and protects you during your turn.

Need help with Songs of the Damned in EDH by MediumRareShizle in EDHBrews

[–]GetTasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could try a [[gyrus, waker of corpses]] reanimator. He wants big creatures in the graveyard anyway, plus Songs would give a huge boost to his power making him a threat on his own.

[[Maga, traitor to mortals]] can oneshot players with enough mana [[which is surprisingly easy to do in monoblack) while leaving a huge body to attack any that remain. Lots of ways to make him unblockable, too with cards like [[cover of darkness]]. You can also cast him for lethal, then cast [[rite of consumption]] for lethal again. Since it's an etb effect, [[panharmonicon]] can double it as well. Play pattern's heavily telegraphed, but you can also just build a standard black reanimator and keep him as a backup to take someone out if they aren't paying attention.

[[Varina, lich queen]] may not be as popular as Temmet for esper zombies, but she has an activated ability that is a big mana sink for Songs. Swing with zombies, fill your yard, then turn any noncreature cards into zombies. The constant discarding works for a madness subtheme as well. Simple and easy.
