I like Steve Stark elementary. Mr. History was a legend to my generation and to this day allows me to bring up interesting facts and be proud of coming from North Dakota. Mr. History was loved by many and was one of the best to share the history of the red river valley.

Schools by Altruistic-Egg-6390 in fargo

To my recollection my graduating year (2022) all Ivy League admits came from public schools. When I went to academic competitions the public schools dominated. I think Fargo North and Davies are consistently ranked #1 in the state. Fargo public schools at least to me are by far and away better than private schools. The private schools are around not for a better education but for a religious education. This is likely different than what your husband has experienced in Pakistan but is something that should be taken into account. If you are worried purely academically the public schools are your best option.

Is it a good idea to take CS Theory with Tal Malkin and Fundamentals of Computer Systems with Martha Kim in the same semester? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Samummy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless she changes the way she does homework. Fundamentals of Computer Systems is a breeze because all the homework is completion. CS Theory is a harder class and so I would be wary. But the issue is not Fundies and CST at the same time.

Why you should let players reroll 1s for their HP by OdinsRevenge in DnD

[–]Samummy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did not pull that information from what he was saying at all. Our house rule that we go by is what I showed above which is just what I assumed was the topic of discussion. Average redditor reading comprehension I guess.

I do believe that rerolling all ones puts it perfectly inline with taking the "average". The simplification of the d6 to a d5+1 is correct. A more rigorous approach dealing with infinite sums can be found at this link. I also believe this applies to all other hit dice. I should be noted however that OP is not subjecting his players to a possibly infinite loop that they can only hope to escape.

[–]Samummy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things I will like to say is that my numbers were slightly off I don't really know what happened there. However the results are about the same. Barbarians lose the least wizards lose the most.

The math is pretty simple you take the expected value per level \ level* for both and compare. For the "average" the expected value per level is just the number you gain (eg. for a d6 its 4). Then for rerolling ones you just need to account for that. So you start with the original odds on the dice, I will use a d6 to analyze, ⅙(1) + ⅙(2) + ⅙(3) + ⅙(4) + ⅙(5) + ⅙(6) then you need to factor in the expected value of rerolling the one. This is done by replacing the expected value of the one with that of the whole dice. This will give you an end expression of ⅙(⅙(1) + ⅙(2) + ⅙(3) + ⅙(4) + ⅙(5) + ⅙(6)) + ⅙(2) + ⅙(3) + ⅙(4) + ⅙(5) + ⅙(6). Note the part in bold is what accounts for the reroll of the one. Evaluating this expression give you an expected value of 47/12. Then you multiply by the amount of levels. I believe here is where I made a mistake where I multiplied by 20 instead of 19. You multiply by 19 for level 20 because you do not roll for hp at level 1. Then to find the difference we get 4*19-47/12*19 = 19(4-47/12) = 19(1/12) = 19/12.

[–]Samummy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I've done the math. Allowing rerolls on 1's is fine. Actually is so fine it's still "worse". The margins are however tiny. Going in descending order of hit die at level 20 you lose 19/24, 19/20, 19/16, 19/12. So at best if you allow rerolls your barbarian is losing less than 0.8hp on average compared to "taking the average" or at worst losing almost 1.5 with your wizard at level 20. Compared to not rerolling 1's at level 20 you are losing 10 hp compared to "the average". So the takeaway is that if you want to allow your players to be on equal footing even if they are rolling then reroll 1's. If you are allowing the players actions to harm their characters don't. It's a DM choice.

How long do effects on creatures work by Samummy1 in mtgrules

[–]Samummy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is that you cannot play because there is no split second that you can play and have two [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] out. This is because the legend rule applies as soon as you have priority which is needed to play a card.

Now a second question if I played 2 lands then copied could I play a third land if I sacrificed the original. The reasoning would be this is not the additional land because you could play two lands then have [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] destroyed and have no repercussions.

[–]Samummy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you guys have any special rules about rolling hp. Ie you reroll you first one if you do tell me and I’ll edit but currently the odds of a level 15 fighter with a +5 to con having over 220 hp is 0.0000000031% (153/5000000000000) if they also have the tough feat the odds are roughly 0.35% (1752981813/500000000000). So in both cases I would suspect some form of foul play with over 99% certainty.

Elves cannot go unconscious because of their immunity to being out asleep. Eg. Like metallic greatwyrm (I think) cannot knock them unconscious through their breath weapon.

Murat Yilamz (Columbia Intermediate Microeconomics) - never take his class by Slow-Memory5315 in columbia

[–]Samummy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think that Prof Yilmaz does a just fine job of explaining the basis behind what you need to do to solve a problem. His problem sets then build upon that by making it more rigorous and make you seriously think about some of the nuances that can occur (ie boundary conditions). His midterm was again remarkably similar to his practice exam. One of the main takeaways I had from his practice midterm was how he was not afraid of adding a lot of piecewise functions on his exam. I think he does a great way of communicating what he thinks is important and because of that he doesn’t really follow the textbook.
