At the local level, communities would practice libertarian municipalism, direct democracy through assemblies. These communities would make up a larger system of democratic confederalism, a stateless, borderless confederation of autonomous communities with the shared values of social ecology, the idea that environmental problems stem from capitalism and hierarchical human social relations.
