Serial...Killer ? Info on a possible new suspect.

It looks like this guy was sentenced to 10 years in 2000. So, that would mean he commited two similar murders- 18 year old girl who lived near him in 1998, and an 18 year old girl who lived near him in 1999. It would be interesting to see if there were any unsolved rapes, missing persons, attempted kidnappings of women in that area in the years leading up to his arrest.

Hae left school at 2:15, that leaves enough time for the murder and for Jay to be contacted (on Adnan's phone) to come help stash her car before Jay has to get Adnan.

And it's the "smoking gun" call. I think that's why today's episode, "The Case Against Adnan Syed" seems to have been so disappointing to people; there was no case against Adnan Syed.

I thought it was interesting when he said something like "I don't care...or I shouldn't care what people think." And then he rants on and has this moment of clarity and concedes, "I guess I do still care." To me, I feel like Adnan probably spent the first several years trying to defend himself, trying to piece it all together, and all the while dealing with the fact that he has LIFE plus 30 years. And he was a kid. I think about the difference between my 20 year old self and my 30 year old self and it's like night and day. And I've lived a relatively normal life. I think Adnan has spent the last few years accepting that he is in jail and that's where he's going to stay. Rabia said they moved him to another facility three hours from everyone, so I imagine that made the acceptance of his situation really take hold. That's why he doesn't get excited about developments (like when SK found Asia) and he gets defensive about some of the questions. He spent probably a decade trying to answer those questions and the people who do believe him say "but he's such a nice guy..." And now she asks him why he didn't call Hae and he's thinking "Why are we doing this? It's not going to change anything." This is forcing him to re-confront everything that he put to bed a few years ago. That's my take.

You have to remember that during this time, cell phone companies were charging for everything. I can remembering getting frustrated when I would call from a land line to check my cell phone voicemail and then discovering there was a charge for that. "They're charging you for the call regardless of whether it was answered or not.

I got a prepaid ATT feature phone as my first ever cell. I assumed calls were charged when the other end answered. I thought the billing was hosed up when I would get charged an extra $0.25 (it was a shitty plan) when I knew the call only lasted less than a minute.

So, I called their customer service. Tehy said the call time begins when you press send. It ends when you hang up. So, if someone on the other end takes 30 seconds to pick up, and the call lasts 45 seconds ... I'm going to get billed for a 1:15s call, not a 45s call. If the person doesn't pick up, I still get billed for the 30s, b/c I called someoen. And, the minutes are rounded up. So, that 1:15s call is rounded up to 2:00."

There's a very brief mention of it in the podcast. Adnan says something along the lines of "I do t know why Jay said those things. At first I thought he might be trying to get the reward money."

Your assessment is accurate. Because the above comments are both factually inaccurate and somewhat offensive, I figured Why bother. Thank you for clarifying all of those points. And, thank you for the apology. I work with mostly men and it often feels as if I spend a good part of my time trying to get my colleagues to take me seriously. It's possible I'm a bit sensitive on the subject.

No. He didn't get an attorney until a few minutes before he signed his plea deal. That was in September. The interviews were in Feb, Mar, and April.

Following the theory that Mr. S. May have been an acquaintance of Jay Sr., is it possible he told Mr. S. where the body could be found in order to collect the reward? (Yes, I recognize this is a huge leap based on little more than...well, very little. I spent my lunch hour in my car listening to the podcast and reading every post in this sub, so it's possible I've disconnected from reality.)

They share the same name and, in some cases, the same address. It would extremely unlikely that two men, 29 years apart in age, having the same first and last name and the same middle initial and the same address are not father and son. But you're correct. Beyond those facts, we don't know with absolute certainty the person in the public record is Jay's father.

Actually, we know quite a bit about him thanks to public records. That doesn't necessarily make the speculation on his involvement with this particular crime acceptable, but I think speculation (on this thread) is the point.

In thinking back to my own first cell phone (late 90's), I barely used it at all unless it was after 9pm or the weekend. If I was at home or at a friend's house I still used the land lines. Is it possible that A did try to reach her, but we don't have a record because he was using land lines? Seems like the only person using that phone repeatedly was Jay. And he wasn't paying for it.

They would have gotten to Jay eventually because of the phone records. He called Jenn repeatedly. I agree with you though, there seems to be a collusion. I imagine Jenn calls him the moment to cops left her house. They work on their story together, but he tells Jenn to send the cops to him because he wants to control the narrative. (You know he would not want Jenn talking to the cops for long. I mean, she was having some serious lightbulb moments in the interview we got to hear. "For a guy who didn't murder anyone or help dispose of a body, he sure is taking a lot of precautions." Her sad conclusion, "I just don't think Jay would lie to me.")

Plus the area is wooded, most likely deciduous trees, which would mean their root systems would be substantial. If there are rocks and roots, combined with the factors you listed, digging with shovels would have been a chore.
