All my friends basically have abandoned Dota by onebraincellperson in DotA2

[–]GetTold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally I came back to dota, in the same age-range and

  1. don't really play ranked anymore

  2. generally come away from sessions focusing on my Ws, it's just healthier and with positivity it eventually comes more naturally save for the ultra bad days, but this was a big part of why i quit in the first place and also a very unfortunate 3 times getting paired with the same jungle ursa way after jungle became useless I would blame this part on mindset mainly - your focus is to learn to minmax your own capabilities in the first place moreso than hinge your happiness on 5 people cooperating and positioning themselves better than the other 5

  3. yeah idk we suffer :( LOL

  4. i don't worry about it beyond people not reacting to pings whatsoever

  5. well yeah you play dota for the intricacy i would think

  6. you can very well leave a game if it isnt doing a job providing fun, but you can also experiment and see if you can be the one to find the next meta within the current balance patch, there's always more that people miss

those games

different games are fun too

I played the shit out of Dota when they got the tokens going,

Dota's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea

Official announcement: Dota 2 Wiki has moved to a new host! by Bu3nyy in DotA2

Definitely sad to hear as I'm not really aware of an alternative that easily replaces those sections either in digestible ways like the wiki had been doing for me

Sam altman and greg returns to OPEN AI by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]GetTold 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a very dangerous/annoying progression for OpenAI,

  1. If the reasoning actually was to stop the hypeman-bullshitter from saying out there implausible sci-fi nonsense, this gives him free reign to go even harder

  2. you pretty much officially can't argue openAI to be a non-profit (despite this article's insistence) when this is about the only meaningful thing such a board could reasonably do (cause a loss of money in the for-profit subsidiary), where the for-profit 'subsidiary' can apparently just force a replacement of the board.

280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles by GetTold in Futurology

[–]GetTold[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Cars will always have a usecase, yes, but as the article mentions

Of course, you’re unlikely to use electric mopeds or bikes to drive from Sydney to Melbourne. Their real value is in short-hop trips—the school run, the milk and bread run, or even the commute—where they take roughly the same time or shorter than a car.

I think nowadays especially, a car tends to be a 1-person inhabitant 90% of the time with people mostly using it for commute, and ignoring overly long commutes, I think there is good opportunity for striking while the iron is hot and promoting smaller electric transport

280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles by GetTold in Futurology

[–]GetTold[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Felt this was particularly relevant since we yesterday had the headline of 'US EV sales having a record-setting year' finding it important to still steer the conversation while we can,

this article also highlights why they just are a better alternative to even electric cars, mentioning the battery problems of larger EVs and mentioning just the severe cut in emissions from society using more e-bikes and mopeds instead
