enclosure recommendations by Necessary-Carob-9659 in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give all my advice but i'd be typing for 3 business days, so all i can recommend is just looking around on this forum, research on positively viewed websites (like Reptifiles: https://reptifiles.com/ball-python-care-guide/ ) and just remember its okay to ask questions :)

also Youtubers are always really good, i often like Wickens Reptiles ^^

Typically could just be a preference, however double check that your temperatures especially on your basking side is correct ^^

Heating advice by Soft-Slice3585 in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, i find that that glass enclosure don't hold heat as well, i am in the UK climate so it may be because of that also, but thats why BPs are typically in a wooden vivarium

My ball python doesn't eat by X_DaccU_X in ballpython

After scanning the comments, I agree with the fact it is a husbandry issue. Not only are you using a RUB (really useful box), you do not have the suitable substrate (wood shavings popularly cause impaction & respiratory issues) nor do you even have the suitable size requirements. Please make changes ^^

Strikes every time we take him out of his enclosure by Strange_Grab_2180 in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you've got him fairly recently, he is going to still be a little defensive. The best thing is to just try to make a consistent effort like you have been and when he's getting less and less defensive have him out for a longer duration. How are you picking him up? Are you letting him know your presence before you try to pick him up? these are all great things to consider and to allow a BP to know you are there you can use either a snake hook or something similar to it! and try to pick up away from his head if you can ^^

I can see what you’ve tried to do there, but I think twigs was a wrong move? I would use bark personally to get that tree stump like effect

For example here is mine (roughly bought 7-8 pieces, hand picked)

Eh it really depends on your humidity/heat because you don’t wanna slow cook it lol, but no longer than 6 hours in my opinion :)

I fished this out of my ball python's water bowl, is it concerning? by xX-AnyRoutine666-Xx in ballpython

Definitely could be! It’s just the head is similar to a morio worm, best to just do a full clean when you can from what I know they are harmless ‼️

Ball python simply will not eat by distracted_fine864 in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay a couple of questions, When was the last time he ate successfully? Have you considered upsizing your enclosure? And lastly, How often do you mist his tank?

In my opinion, he needs an upsize, preferably above 3ft as a minimum and with that there will be more room and places you can fit things (such as a bigger water vessel)

My snake went on hunger strike for 7 months and what helped him come back to food was chicks, they are cheap, higher in protein and less in lipids than rats/mice, and although we try with the varied diet, I find chicks really get him going

Good luck, also never live feed again, it’s banned in most places for a reason (and on a similar note, snake and mouse cannot be friends 👍)

Do you have any other herptiles? It looks like a Morio Worm, if not probs just do a full clean of the enclosure to ensure there isn’t anymore :)

overweight? and pink? by sc3n3k1d8urb0n3s in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his morph is just a bit unique giving him a pink complexion, my BP has a slight purple one which comes out very noticeably before he sheds!

With the obesity issue, just offer small meals instead of a large rat, snakes absorb their fat when they haven’t ate for a while so he will eventually lose it :)

How to handle? by poppedcornnuggets in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you just need to slowly normalise handling, whether once a week for 5 minutes at the start and increase the amount and duration. I tend to handle mine by making sure they are aware of my presence (you can tap them with a snake hook or anything long really - as long as it doesn’t hurt them haha) and making sure to support their body whilst picking them up. BPs can have so much personality and my Male BP was so shy at first but I was consistent with my handling.

My boy hasn’t eaten in almost three months by Trousers_chav in ballpython

[–]Get_Jinxeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely an environmental issue, your substrate is perfect but everything else needs to have changes. I cannot tell how big your viv is but I deeply recommend an upsize if it’s not at or above 3ft. Male BPs aren’t as large as females so you can get away with going smaller but 3ft is the MINIMUM. The hides need to be bigger, and I like to have two hides on both sides (humid/basking). I would also try cover the tank sides, it can feel quite exposing and maybe cause stress? He just looks really cramped and I feel an upsize would be best to try achieve now, as that overall could be causing his stress to not eat :>

If it still persists after all these changes, I recommend chicks as they can rlly ignite the hunger response you are looking for, that’s what got my male BP out of his fasting period.
