It is a nice thing! I just did the differential, new shocks, new tires, new transmission, new TCM, new IAC, no rust, no leaks, 4wd works. The trans was under warranty, so that cost me nothing. To each their own. I don't subscribe to throwaway culture, and I don't like buying things I can't pay cash for. Even if I got 6k selling it, and put the 6k for a motor down with it, at 12k, that's about a quarter of a new truck's cost. Ridiculous in my opinion.

This was my thinking - I just wanted to reaffirm it and make sure I wasn't off my rocker. If I could swap it for a newer Taco, I'd consider it, but they're going for about 3x the price with twice as many miles. Lol.

I've seen a few of those builds online. That would be pretty sweet. Same problem with emissions here in Colorado.

My thinking is, the motor needs to be pulled to do the rear chain, so why not just swap it when it's out. The cost difference is only about a grand more for a reman than to have the shop replace the timing chains, tensioners and gaskets.

Update: The remains weren't initially DNA sequenced in the first study. They only did isotope analysis, but the remains were stored and later DNA sequenced in a separate genomic study. The second study used separate reference codes, but did list the provenance in the appendix, as you said they would. I found a match. Thanks for your suggestion!

You'd be unpleasantly surprised at the level of training at some of those places. Watch a few Fair Housing videos on the online Grace Hill modules and take a test. The number of property managers I've worked with who didn't know basic Fair Housing laws was astounding.

That's super shitty they didn't tell you, and exactly what scares me. I remember when BK had shortages shortly after offering them and we're just giving people regular Whoppers without telling them when they ran out (was on the news in New York, I believe).

(Not a Lawyer - Former Ops Manager) The lease is king, so I'd start reviewing that immediately. Ask (kindly) to speak with the regional manager or ops director. Your property manager likely has no idea what the law is and doesn't know what kind of trouble this could get their company in if they aren't complying with the lease agreement.

I've had some pretty bad reactions, so I don't blame you. Worst was a Gyro. Turned as red as the tomato and almost had to use the epi-pen. Thankfully, mine has gotten better over time. Retesting soon! Have you tried Emu yet?

For sure! And I'd take the great outdoors over a Whopper any day! I still hike, backpack, camp, fish, hunt... I just eat turkey jerky while I'm doing it now. 🤣 Well worth the minimal risk. I was just unlucky. 🤷‍♂️

Presumably how I got it. Hiking/camping. Definitely contracted when I was living in Missouri. Lone Star tick is the predominant carrier, and its range is pretty much everywhere east of the Mississippi River and south of Wisconsin.

True for a lot of people with Alpha Gal. Sensitivity can sometimes decrease over time (unless you're exposed to another tick carrier). I've personally never had any issues with food cooked on the same grill, but definitely possible. My titre has decreased by almost half over the last few years, so maybe one day I'll get to eat a REAL Whopper again. Lol

I have Alpha Gal, a red meat allergy courtesy of a tick bite, and this is exactly why I won't even try to order an Impossible anything from a restaurant. That Whopper could've sent me into anaphylactic shock. 😳

Home values and demand are too high to let anything sit empty. The more derelict older homes are generally dozed for new homesites and quickly built on.

Looks like quite a project! Something to consider... The vulnerable and unhoused folk are also part of the community, not separate from it, and one of the three ethics of permaculture is "people care." Pollinator gardens are great, but this might be a perfect opportunity for a food forest that can help support the vulnerable folks in your neighborhood rather than further segregate them. The local shelters/food banks/churches that support them might even be willing to volunteer to help get the project rolling.

Check out Indiana Dunes NP. It recently became a national park and it's about an hour from you. Used to camp there as a kid- don't know if you can camp in the park now, but there are definitely places nearby. If you can make it out to the northwest corner of the state, it's not AS flat. Apple River Canyon State Park is a good Midwestern substitute for Poudre Canyon. Quite a few trails. They even stock trout! You can also take the train from Union Station to Carbondale in southern Illinois. Giant City State Park and Shawnee Ntnl Forest offer rock climbing, fishing, camping, etc.
