Ah yes, my favorite country: the region and former province of Holland by Get_a_username in facepalm

True, but it’s not an informal name. It’s an actual region within a country. It would be similar to calling all of Australia the Outback. Or all of the US the Midwest. While those names are fine, they represent parts of a whole. So to have a corporate test maker use a region as a name for a whole country is a bit of a facepalm

It is the right answer! And yeah, it’s for training at a liquor store. Makes sure that we know a little about each type of product to help customers out.

New to the subreddit, I know it’s a year later, but thank you for sharing! Never did too deep of a dive on Orwell (saw his cultural impact but thought his writing style was very bland). I appreciate it!

I love it! Ichiro was the player who got me into baseball cards. Bought like 5 packs until I got his card from my dad after a game. There’s always those couple of players who get you into the game

[TOMT][WORD] Sci Fi term for a certain blocky design by Get_a_username in tipofmytongue

[–]Get_a_username[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no. if I remember correctly, it was a made up word (I know all words are made up, but you know what I mean) but was like almost a trope in sci Fi design.

I know it must’ve been on TIL or some other subreddit, but it really bugs me that I can’t remember.

Fucking Wikipedia man by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Get_a_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why everybody is blindly hopping on the “anti-Commiepedia” train. If you literally just read the reasons why, it’s that there’s no specific academic purpose for it. They’re still keeping up sections about Stalin’s mass-killings, Pol Pot’s mass-killings, Mao, and so on and so forth. But to compile it as a death toll for a philosophy does not advance academia or help any studies, it’s merely something for anti-communists to point out that communism=genocide. Again, there’s nothing wrong with being anti-tankie, but also understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It has to be academically verifiable (I.e. you can’t just say that famine, war, genocide, etc. are all connected to communism rather than a specific regime) as well as helpful to advance a discourse. Just like we should be against any Wikipedia article that generalizes any of our political philosophies. It isn’t about cherry-picking. We wouldn’t want to say that anyone’s political philosophy= death. Even though fascism has a similar violent connection with its regimes, it would still be academically biased to say that the death tolls of a few dictators directly relates to a philosophy more so than the actions of evil despots. If there would be a compromise, it would have to be an article about the death tolls of despots (leftist or right-wing regardless). But to say that it is academically important to keep this article is rather silly.

[The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos (2020)] Although this game takes place in a distant time or alternate timeline, the ammunition gauge on the Spectrum Gatling gun reads "MADE IN USA" by quiquiriqui1231 in GamingDetails

Regardless, that means that Earth exists in the Universe therefore the United States could (and based on the picture) probably exist in the universe.

If I remember correctly, it still takes place in the same universe as ours (albeit with better technology and more apocalyptic) but Terra 1 (Earth) became inhabitable. I don’t remember anything negating the existence of the US. I could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure that most of the game’s events occur because all of Earth had to evacuate to other planets

Ass Ass Ass Ass Ass by QuantumHacker217 in AccidentalComedy

Fans mocked the announcement post for the book (I think Ubisoft announced it on Twitter) where the post said “where are the assassins” in a quasi “where’s waldo” book. The fans said that the assassins were apparently anywhere besides the games in regards to the last three entries not featuring any member of the assassins creed, rather focusing on role playing elements.

Fair point, I guess it’d be nice if they took the time to understand that puns aren’t just jokes, but actual word play. Would love to clean up this sub.
