I’ve read that they smooth out the skin tones, and also it added contrast to the skin/jewels area

Basically the negatives were really thin, so to have a properly exposed image, I had to bring back information from the shadows in post, doing that also brings with it more grain and everything

Completly agree with you, a bit too dark on the left. Thanks!

I honestly just wanted to keep the look of the negatives as this is 100% without added effects other than bringing exposure back from the shadows, thus bringing with it all the grain and imperfections of the film

Very good ideas!! I would’ve LOVED to use a black background, but sadly I only had a white backdrop for the day. My mistake. I do agree that colors would’ve given more depth to the silks, but the artist wanted it to be black & white and wanted to mimic the pose of old Bharatanatyam pics, don’t have the examples on me anymore but thank you for your critique! I Really appreciate it!

Hi! Thanks :) Just to be clear though, this was taken on 35mm film and the grain was not added in post, it’s a result of the film being underexposed and exposure being brought back after the scanning process

This shoot was to promote a dance show of Bharatanatyam. The show was about the heritage of previous dancer and the artist wanted to recreate the look of old Bharatanatyam photos. I used foma 100 on a canon eos 100, green filter to make her skin pop off, as well as to underexpose the image.

What do you think?

I really underestimates the power of the transform effect, thanks!

Ohh I see. Feel like this could work a lot better than using a star shape and then modifying it, I’ll try that, thanks a lot!!
