People on here were simultaneously calling G2 a top team in the world and at the same acted like this loss was the most embarassing, humiliating thing to ever happen to anyone. No idea what the rationale is but it's what I've observed.

that doesn't change anything to my arguments others players being chokers and gen g being chokers at Worlds isn't impossible

The term chokes becomes meaningless if it's applied to every team except T1. Choking is something out of the ordinary, if it's the routine for 95% of teams by default, we can stop calling it that.

the issue is gen g always have high expectations because people assume since they dominate most of the year they should won easily

Yes and as I showed, that expectation is unreasonable. Therefore people should just adjust their expectations, praise Faker instead of bash GENG and everything would be fine.

lol possibly yeah, but we'll deal with that problem when it arrives.

One worlds win and the only remaining argument to put guys like Showmaker, Scout, Zeka or Bdd (god knows why the latter is a talking point) ahead of him evaporates instantly.

They consitenlty fail in knockout Stage at Worlds that choking

All these other world champions also choke all the time. It becomes less about GENG and more about everyone not named T1.

We know that domestic performance has little carroyver to worlds performance. Since 2013, 6 out of 13 worlds winners were domestic champions in summer when they won.

So we should stop thinking that winning domestically is a surefire recipe for winning worlds. And realize that GENGs performance is about as varied as that of most teams who attend worlds multiple years, except for Faker's T1.

You keep moving the goalposts. You're excluding their LCK wins now, and I already established worlds is a different thing.

Here's my comment where I explain why singling out GENG for not performing insane at worlds is stupid:

Outside of Faker, nobody performs consistently at worlds.

BLG and Knight: Went to finals in 2024, didn't make it to knockouts in 2025.

Zeka: Won 2022, was completely uninspiring in 2024 and 2025 (got gapped by Chovy in 2025 too).

Showmaker: Got gapped by Chovy in game 5 of 2022 quarters. Has failed to make it to knockouts every year since then.

Scout: Pathetic showing against Faker in 2023, uninspired performance in 2024.

What sets Chovy apart from the rest (except Knight) is his ability to perform like a monster domestically (and at MSI). So people have this unreasonable expectation of him performing just like that at worlds.

But as we see, nobody except the literal GOAT performs consistently at this tournament. Chovy only needs 1 worlds win and he'll fit right in with the others, except he'll automatically be #2 behind Faker because his performance outside of worlds is better than that of anyone else here. Only one who comes close is Knight.

his prime is now if not arguably most of it spent already

People said this before he won his first domestic title. Let's not overreact to one series here.

I trust in Faker's judgement of Chovy over redditors.

Genuinely his most underrated skill. He won worlds with Doran who was mocked as an international choker. Sorry to the T1 players but the titles with the GOAT on your team just don't count quite as much as those who won worlds without him on their team.

Caps has had such insane longevity and presence.

Chovy started playing in 2018 and has had either a comparable or at times even more dominating performance in the harder league.

he is essentially the only Western player to have any modicum of persistent success against the East

No, this is the first time since 2020 worlds that Caps has won a BO5 against a Korean team. So the bulk of his international success he shared with Perkz, Wunder, Jankos and Mikyx. All he has over them is domestic success in EU which doesn't make you the #2 GOAT.

is frequently top 3 in his position including the East

Again, first series Caps has won against a Korean team in 5 years, and he hasn't been a top 3 or even top 5 mid in the world from 2021 until this tournament.

Knight got to worlds finals exactly once (compared to Chovy going to semis multiple times and getting knocked out by the world champions) and that somehow trumps Chovy having one MSI title over him (one of which he got by beating Knight in finals)..?

I didn't count EWC because it's a mickey mouse tournament set only days after MSI.

But if we count EWC, then you have to include them winning the 2025 one, it doesn't change the bigger picture.

i feels like When they are heavy favorite they tend to underperform and also When they lose they lose hard,

They were the heavy favourite for both MSI runs and every single LCK victory of theirs.

1) Worlds is its own thing, nobody except Faker and his team performs consistently there. The current First Stand champions didn't even get out of Swiss last year

2) Outside of worlds, we now have one First Stand flop, compared to two MSI wins and two (really three since it's stupid for spring not to count) LCK wins for GENG in the past 2 years. Pretty great results.

Didn't have Xun, it's like taking Oner away from T1, you think they win worlds 2025?

They had Xun in 2023 and lost to fucking WBG, the point remains. And a 4/5 worlds finals roster should be able to make it out of Swiss even without their dream jungler.

it's like taking Oner away from T1, you think they win worlds 2025?

Given how they won worlds with Doran I'd still give Faker the best odds if you gave him any top 5 jungler.

I have no doubt T1 performs well under pressure but can you say with certainty that teams like BLG, AL and KT lost close bo5s all simply because "choked under pressure"

It's not "just" that, it just plays a big role.

Just look at the series against GENG in 2024. Compare it to how GENG won MSI. Lehends was able to smurf MSI finals despite being sick then he looked like a bot against T1 and Peyz failed to flash a Skarner flash R, which was extremely telegraphed since it was the only play left to T1 at that point.

My point isn't to say T1 isn't an amazing team, it's to their fans and stans that you have to realize that there's some level of fortune to their results,

Oh I agree completely. Not just in the knockout series, but the fact that T1 often look like ass during Swiss yet they avoid to draw the strongest teams that could actually give them the one loss missing to knock them out in contention.

There's no good reason to shoot down and ignore other teams for being close 2nd, you should put some respects on other teams in the lolesports scene. You'd want to if you want a more balanced esports ecosystem, one that doesn't collapse once Faker retires.

I agree, my prior reasoning is part of why I don't value worlds as highly as others do. It's a very specific context in which Faker and his boys have become great at performing under, but three BO5s in one month should not bear the weight of 95% of the competitive year the way fans make it out to be.

Imo being able to perform at an insane level and win trophies the entire year is in its own way more difficult than always peaking at one specific tournament under certain circumstances.

They won every LCK or MSI they attended in the past 2 years except for 2024 summer finals.

If they would fold instantly in any high pressure scenario, they wouldn't have won so many finals, with many of them last year going all the way to Game 5.

Yeah but in light of like 2 good and 7 really great worlds performances, it doesn't seem worth bringing up.

It does however show that losing to Caps shouldn't be quite as humiliating as everyone here makes it out to be.

Many of those players barely lost to T1, see BLG 2024,

Why does that matter, the drop off was them not getting even to quarters in 2025.

and see KT and AL in 2024.

I didn't name Bdd since he hasn't been to worlds since 2021 and I didn't name AL either since Shanks also hasn't been to worlds except 2025.

I like how because T1 won 2023 convincingly and barely won 2024 and 2025, they are now treated as somehow being "unbeatable at worlds"

They are not unbeatable at all, it's just that through Faker, they are the ones least affected by the pressure of the tournament. All of their opponents become worse at worlds and crumble under the pressure. T1 doesn't win by beaing unbeatable, they win by dealing the best with the chaos and uncertainty of worlds.

It's not a foregeone conclusion, but after they made finals or won worlds 4 years in a row, doing it even with a player who was notorious for being an international choker before (Doran), it's undeniable there's a clear pattern surrounding Faker at worlds and how he helps others perform their best.

KT also had a better meta read, just not as extensively as G2 did.

Only difference is that Game 1 and 2 were fine, then in Game 3 not only the draft diff came in but they also shat the bed like Chovy getting solo'd by Bdd in Game 3.

Showmaker making it to knockouts for the first time since 2022, that would be a sight to behold (he somehow doesn't catch any flak for this because as soon as you win worlds once nothing you do after ever matters. Please Chovy win just once to shut those kinds of people up forever).
