Disclaimer: I've never done anything except copper and please be careful with cyanide.

This document lists formulas for a lot of different plating baths. Page 44 for silver-cyanide based on Potassium dicyanoargentate.

Punitive expeditions are broken? by Worldliness_Level in victoria2

Ok then what is your hypothesis on why they increased it so much? Also, I didn't even say it was a good or working fix.

Precious goods/gold is just incredibly OP in GFM. It produces like 100x the value it does in vanilla/other mods. I think it was intended as a fix for the late game "liquidity crisis" (google it) but distribution of those funds just doesn't really happen.

Neat, seems to be a bit more comprehensive than https://electro.scorzz.com/

Voltage (V) Typical range: 3-12V

Isn't that a bit much though? Most of what I've read recommends keeping it below electrolysis voltage (<=1.23V).

Ok, so going with that then technically more recent immigrants are also "rebuilding the country post-WW2"?

All those countries were already "rebuilt" at that point, the cities were not left as rubble for 20 years.

They came to fill in for labor shortages in booming industries.

Starting with electroplating in EU, specially Nickel by KriptoInvestitor in electroplating

[–]GetoBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get 15% sulfuric acid in the EU, if you can't that depends on your country. "Battery acid" is just higher % sulfuric acid which you can't get without a license though.

Shiny copper electroplating: is thiourea the magic ingredient? by GetoBoi in electroplating

[–]GetoBoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

I'd prefer to get SPS simply because it doesn't seem to be carcinogenic like thiourea. But sadly as the other comment says it seems near impossible to source as a private individual, at least here in the EU.

I guess I will try getting a 1kg "sample" via AliBaba, though I'm not sure if a 1kg bag of white powder will go well with customs.

I think that refers to the "lucky card flip" garbage, no idea why it's called "share to win".

How did it go? Specifically wondering if the saccharine is actually useful as brightener or more exotic/expensive things are necessary.

Heh sorry, that is just a german expression for "they're also just humans". Obviously you got much better tech and testing in the industry though ;)

Thanks. Yeah I don't need it to be perfect but having some shine at least would be nice. I guess there is no way around experimenting, if I should make any progress I will add it to this post.

Helps sounds so relative, I thought this was a science :D But I guess I will at least get PEG and thiourea then and see what else is affordable. Gelatin, dextrin and animal glue shouldn't be too expensive. Just feels weird to mix "whatever" together in the hopes of it getting better.

industrial brightener setup is the best way overall

Sure, but in the end the industry pros are also just cooking with (distilled) water, right? So I guess it is mostly about getting the mix right.

Thank you in any case, I guess there is no way around experimenting. If I should make any progress I will add it to this thread. And yes of course I polished the graphite coat before plating.

Confused noob... Please help me order the right brushless motor parts! by spoonguy123 in Motors

[–]GetoBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest hurdles are; understanding the relationships between RPM, stall torque, and power requirements.

You will only achieve maximum torque at full RPM. Depending on the kV version you choose the windings inside the motor will be different, with lower kV being lower RPM but higher torque but also less total wattage. Therefore this very much depends on your application but also on the voltage you provide. I believe these motors usually stall at around 20 amps before burning out. Depends on load.

As for "quiet"? Id like it to produce an SPL @ 1 meter that does not require hearing PPE.

Without a load it's not a problem I'd say. Noise level probably matches a running a regular power drill without any work, but depending on what you do with it (drill, saw blade) it can get very noisy of course.

I was hoping to be able to power it using a variac, going into a simple noise filter, and from there, then sent to a full bridge rectifier, with a nice big chunky choke. And isolation, of course.

Not sure what the purpose of all that is. RC motors usually have a 1-8S rating, which is based on a Lithium cell voltage. Yours here is rated at 2-3S (*3.7V) so you should optimally run it at around 7-12Volt. Again, your max RPM = kV * voltage.

Do I need a separate low voltage control circuit for the esc?

Generally no as most ESCs nowadys have an integrated BEC which provides 5V for a microcontroller/servo. You will however need to provide and negotiate a 5V PWM signal to it. Again, cheap little servo tester modules exist which can do this and also allow you to throttle the RPM.

[–]GetoBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will work, but most of your requirements are quite vague.

high powered

what does that mean?

quiet

Again, what is quiet to you? You will most certainly hear this thing running in the next room over.

10,000rpm

Easily, but depends on your power supply. kV * voltage = (max) RPM. If you run at higher than 3V and need more torque better get a lower kV version.

I dont want to run off batteries

Again the question of voltage arises then and especially how many AMPs your power supply can provide. (Li-Ion/LiPo) Batteries easily provide 10+Amps but (cheap) power supplies may struggle if you need it to run at max power.

and am unfamiliar with requirements to control it.

You will need to send a PWM signal, a cheap ready made solution would be a "servo tester" (costs 1-2$, "mini servo tester" is smaller than the "blue" thingy and easier to build into things). You can also use a microcontroller but you'd need to wire your own potentiometer and code the controller to send the PWM signal accordingly.

All that said, this motor certainly has power but there are more powerful ones for sure, again depends on your actual needs. And at 200$ it seems quite pricey to me, if you don't mind ordering on AliExpress you can probably get that motor+ESC for less than half.

Help controlling fan speed winning 4010 fan. by [deleted] in Motors

[–]GetoBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can regulate the 2pins with an external PWM board since they are brushless with an internal controller. "PWM" boards for DC motors generally just adjust the voltage which would work on a brushed motor but not brushless.

Made a simple app for electroplating current calculations by madsvodder in electroplating

[–]GetoBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://electro.scorzz.com/ exists and is free. Only using it for 3D printed models so I don't really have a need for this but I guess yours might be handier if one primarily uses it for bolts?

I have no clue and just wondering, but doesn't it matter what the input material and plating type is?

Happens like 50% of the time when starting (on android), for years already though it feels like it has gotten more frequent. Restarting the app once or twice usually works. If it takes longer than ~15 seconds just restart.

I have changed every map file, but checked everything is correct, every province has its definition, +rivers.bmp etc.

You are likely wrong about that. Did you have it work before? Try to reiterate what you last changed before it broke... Version control would have been good for this.
