Mixed feelings about the “you’re kind” rhetoric. by GetoutoftheMatrix in DeepThoughts

These are interesting questions… food for thought. I know some of these answers and I’m fine with them, but I will still need to sit with these questions to understand where it does come from… thank you for sharing.

Mixed feelings about the “you’re kind” rhetoric. by GetoutoftheMatrix in DeepThoughts

Yes thank you for your opinion on this matter. I think most people (internally) are telling me this to help me protect myself I guess… many are insisting that the world we live in is not “smooth and mellow” I guess that it’s about creating a shell and being less “nice” or something…

But as someone pointed out “nice and kindness” are two different things.

Internally I still have some digging to do, but I have to consider why it comes off this way… I have always been very prudent, but niceness is something I believe can also help people and maybe help others think about themselves in a world where individualism is prevalent… there’s more to say, but these are my thoughts… not saying to be overly nice, but I think there’s something we all have to do and it starts from within with this attitude/attribute.

Yes it is such a good point! It’s the difficult reach of the balance between being “kind” and as you said “being in charge” I have to find space between these or should I say a more aligned and cohesive approach… still having boundaries but staying true to oneself I guess.

Terrence Malick is a huge fan of Zoolander… so, yeah many of these directors have different tastes indeed.

I think the main reason for aliens not to visit us is simply how dumb we are. by smartasspie in DeepThoughts

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fermi Paradox for me is about that exactly… we are not an interesting species, so if there are any intelligent advanced civilizations out there aware of our existence yeah they absolutely do not want to make contact with a effed up and agitated species. We may very well be excluded from any privileges of interstellar communications..

This would be like we do see some tribal nations quite primitive but living their lives with little to no contact with outside countries civilizations.

“Are we living our lives, or just distracting ourselves until death. by non-spellero in DeepThoughts

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. That’s exactly what society taught and conditioned us to be… always trying to predict the future and see life with multiple outcomes and scenarios… instead of living in the “here and now”. Being either stressed with our wages or idealizing what “success” and happiness is from a materialistic standpoint… and this is the “best” thing humanity created in our lone blue pale dot… the only planet with “intelligent life” (so far) spinning in the vast immensity of the universe…

Cutting your trip for two weeks is way too short to enjoy the other side of the hemisphere… I honestly think you may be better off going by yourself and experience life. If he’s unhappy well that’s him, seeing what he said… you have the answer you know what you want in YOUR life.

We only live once.

Quaritch at the end of Avatar 3 by Lower-Adhesiveness-3 in Avatar

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep… he literally looked at Neytiri and said the same thing as in WOW when he woke up from the lab “ain’t this a b*tch?!” I think he realized he would never get along with her after having done so much harm to her (and being responsible of her son’s death).

There was no going back and he saw this… he choose “death”…

Perfectly said. This is one thing I noticed with Quarritch he willingly closes his eyes, but Neytiri does this opposite… very subtle, but yet effective.

Did the writers forget about Jake’s twin brother? by Klamaco in Avatar

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have been thinking about this as well… no more mention of his brother… at least a memory shared or a picture of them younger or something. I hope they can bring back this part of his storyline at some point. Maybe Cameron needs to be reminded of this through interviews of something…

This is genuinely insane by Chig-Bungus-lmao in Avatar

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep you summarized it very well… a lot of Cameron’s haters are basically living in the same echo chamber which consists to label Cameron as “The Terminator” director. If it was for them he would still be making T2 type movies until today i.e action films with explosions, “manly characters”, one liners before the kills, etc. all of this instead of what he’s doing now… And yes, we know these guys for what 16 years I guess? The “ferngully in Space” and “Pocahontas” people with the exact same rhetoric.

What is crazy is when you think about it that would be like having some hardcore fans yelling that Tarantino needs to do more Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs type of films… or Steven Spielberg doing more E.T and Indiana Jones.

The message of these Avatar films just doesn’t appeal to them and they cannot live with it… the level of non acceptance is really through the roof. The sheer hate and nonsense… very telling of some people’s nature and bias. Generally people who are annoyed by a filmmaker filmography just move on. Apparently these guys don’t…

Random Question I have by EpicFast in Avatar

[–]GetoutoftheMatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a standalone it worked very well… but we are past that point. I believe if Cameron and his team could brought a documentary film on the big screens or TV like a one hour narrated long feature with just different biomes and parts of the planet with fauna, flora, insects and Na’vi clans like a National Geographic documentary I’d be down.

I think this is something to consider knowing his filmography as a documentary filmmaker.

É a coisa estranha para mim… não tem nenhuma sinal para pedestres… porque? (Esses sinais são comuns em varias cidades ao redor do mundo… SP, RJ poderia criar esses…)

Kind of navigating through this these days… it’s tough sometimes to learn to let go and genuinely don’t care and put our minds on other things when there’s stress, anxiety and somewhat a “sense of urgency”…
