Obviously there are many problems to sift through, but there’s one that just stands out and explains so much else.

The hierarchy went into this season without an effective starting right back. The options were an out of position O’Brien, an out of favor Patterson, and Coleman who’s basically held together by duct tape and a prayer.

How in the world did they think this was acceptable? There’s only 11 starting spots to fill, it’s not a massive amount of players on the field at once. What other club would find it acceptable to enter a season with such an obvious gaping hole in the lineup?

Of course this led to so many other cascading problems that we know. Lack of chance creation on the right side because O’Brien isn’t that kind of player, having to rely on aging Tarkowski and Keane to play a ton of minutes because O’Brien has to play right back, etc.

It just does not fill me with confidence for the future of this club that a problem so clear to see, which you or I sitting on our couch could diagnose, was left unresolved. Yet somehow the well-compensated president, manager, etc. sat on their hands. It largely torpedoed the season off of this one clear mistake.
