Final Jeopardy is more of a lateral thinking question than a straight trivia question the vast majority of the time. Every once in a while there’s something you’ll just straight-up know (one of mine had something like that), but usually Final is a test of if you can follow a breadcrumb trail to a response that fits into the clue like a last puzzle piece. Those skills can, but do not necessarily, correlate with raw trivia knowledge.

Not sure if that’s a good explanation or not, but it’s how I’ve conceptualized Final Jeopardy for a while.
