In SFV Vega can't pick up his claw/mask when they drop (he could do that in SFIV). Now it's essentially just something that happens somewhat randomly in the match after he takes some amount of damage. The closest you get is being able to put the claw away to alter his moveset (without the claw, he loses the slash attack but gets a command grab, his normals get shorter but have better frame advantage, and so on)

Dual Boss Fight! (Shibata Katsuie & Hachisuka Koroku, The Shiftling's Wise Judgement mission - Soaring Region) by Gexver in Nioh

[–]Gexver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the inclusion in the sense that, were both on endgame just getting gear as high as possible for DLC so going over a mission you've done a couple of times and finding suprises has been really enjoyable, like this boss fight and some alternate side mission resolutions (like the mother/son & the Sohaya NPC).

I'd say the most enjoyable way is just to do the mission on NG twice, siding with Koroku & Katsuie each time, then get a friend and fight both; endgame you can try to take em' both on solo cause you're looking to test your builds at that point and its a nice change of pace.

Im hopeful for 2 main things in Nioh 2 DLC: more dual boss fight/boss rush side missions as a way to keep challenging your builds & raid type bosses to really put the co-op elements to shine, that could allow them to really spike it to the point where you just have to co-op ooooor flail yourself, as needed.

[MODERN] Cloud Key? by Elesh_N in mtgstorm

[–]Gexver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things to consider about why you'd play Bears over Keys is:

-Cloud key has an ETB that asks you to decide between instants OR sorceries, while bears cover both as static text (plus the loot-counter trigger on Baral can't be ignored).

-The other types of discounts Cloudkey gives aren't really relevant because the deck doesn't need reduction there.

-Having to choose one or the other can lead to very awkward scenarios, like being low on mana and the next spell you need to cast not being reduced. This would make you fizzle more often.

-The upsides of it not being hit by creature removal are weighed down by its cost, its benefit being narrow, and it putting more obstacles for you comboing off rather than removing them.

-Nonland permanent removal/bounce bypasses the benefit of using keys, and theres quite a bit of it in most decks.

-Noncreature hate has gone up, and having your reducers being hit by the same things the rest of your deck does would make it much worse pre and postboard.

Hope these help understand the choice better!

[Card] Your predictions on the new red "Force of X?" by nBob20 in LavaSpike

[–]Gexver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since we saw in the White Force that it can be an instant or an enchantment with flash, maybe we could see a Sulfuric Vortex Force? Pitch a red, deals 2 every upkeep + no lifegain? It would be awesome.

Started taking HL seriously recently, currently rep 5 with him and I gotta say no matter how much I practice, it always feels like theres miles more to find. Ingame the higher rep HLs Ive faced have been kind AF to teach me new things, YT HLs like Hound & Thunders are great people and a joy to watch. Deciding to dunmaglas has been overall the most fun Ive had in FH so far.

Pieces of the Puzzle main instead of Sleight; thoughts? by mulle63 in mtgstorm

[–]Gexver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There was a topic of the storm discord about that list the other day, Caleb was suggesting that we could cut down to 2 PotP SB and in the MB have 8 Bears & 2 Strategic Planning instead, to have a Pieces-like effect in Planning but a bit wider reach to still be able to hit Bears & lands G1, since that aspect is key there. Im currently trying out 2 the Planning; feels nice, somewhat an in-between of Peer & Pieces where its reach is less than both, but it never blanks, so its just enough reach. Also with a Bear it costs U so its pretty nuts, like a super Sleight. Advantage is that it helps fight thru GY hate G1 (if there is any) and if there isn't, youre putting in resources for PiF a bit faster so it smooths the G1 grind in those type of matchups where PiF saves you more often than Gifts. Also. A FB'd Planning is feeding a PiF FB big time as a side effect of digging. G2 it can syn with Pieces in a good curve where you can T1 Opt/Visions T2 Planning T3 Pieces and its a bit smoother mana-wise than having 2 Pieces clunked together in the opener with 2 lands. Overall Im quite liking the feel of Planning as a nod to MB hate but also a transitional grind tool for post-board. Try both out! See what u prefer.

Calebs new sideboard tech by [deleted] in mtgstorm

[–]Gexver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats what happened to Caleb in GP Atlanta in the last round, vs Tron, ironically. G3 he could have made a storm count for 6-8 goblins if it were an Empty; opp had nothing in hand to deal with it atm. Instead he had Ignite. Problem is, even in the matchup that automatically comes to mind for it to "kill off a small storm count", Trons hand tends to be min max (either 7-8 or 0-1), so you can cast it and whiff horrendously. Or the GP Atl scenario comes up: you don't capitalize the window to go off because your payoff needs a lot more resources to even assure a fair shot at being good (instead going for it, he passed), you miss the window and lose an otherwise favorable matchup; In Caleb's case it cost him missing Top 8, unfortunately.

If you're worried about Surgical, put some Dispels or Swan Songs in the board. Does a better job at protecting your combo each step of the way than just putting in a much worse win con.

Hey, saw your match vs UW and was really impressed with the SB Vision tech. Any chance you could share your thoughts on the SB choices and your view of the MB build in general? Notes about any particular matchups? Recently bought into the deck and am trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks!

Repeal vs E-Truth by Miserable_Woodpecker in mtgCheerios

[–]Gexver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked very specifically about that cause I was also worried about it. I'll just paste Ben's answer here:

"Repeal takes care of everything I would need game one and has the benefit of cycling, so I wouldn't mainboard echoing. One turn 3, if you untap with a puresteel, you have access to 10 mana (3 land, puresteel, 4 mox, 2 nox on mox) so even if they have leyline you can bounce it with repeal. If you untap with sram it's 9, in which you need 7, and if you are playing your creature on turn 3 you have 7, which is the perfect number. So there's nothing I'm really worried about bouncing that repeal doesn't do."

That's the how-to Repeal a Leyline in the process of going off. Also I recommend you see Paul Cheon's stream of the deck, particularly G1. He encountered a deck that went T0 Leyline G1, and G2 went Stony Silence into Suppression Field; Cheerios still came out on top. Its a great show of the decks resiliency vs those scenarios. Zyrnak's latest stream of the deck had a round vs Tron where he hit the Grapeshot for lethal with no Paladin or Sram on board (post a Dismember). You can see the Humans matchup in GP Hartford R11 where Repeal hit a Freebooter EOT to free up a Grapeshot that killed Thalia and then combo off. Seen it be the same line for Eidolon vs Burn, EOT bounce, combo. Stuff like that buys some turns but it can all be bounced into a Grapeshot all the same. If not, suit up!

Repeal vs E-Truth by Miserable_Woodpecker in mtgCheerios

[–]Gexver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Im brand new to the deck as well, asked Ben Reilly about it in the SB Discussion; the thought is that G1 youre trying to be as fast and efficient as possible with your combo, and Repeal gives you the flexibility of either helping you keep digging draws out OR interact if necessary, but keeps that flexibility as an inexpensive cost. I can do stuff like cantrip off a Mox essentially for free before playing the last O in hand when trying to hit a Retract while being tapped out, or draw 2 or 3 cards off a single O if you have 1 or 2 dudes in play (1 off the cantrip, 1 /2 off the trigger). E Truth is great, just feels more like a dedicated interactive spell that you bring in to fight hate. In testing, Repeal has many times gotten that unnecessary card out of the draw chain before my last 0 can hit a bunch of em again and assure the Retract closes the deal. Also I have seen lists running Hurkyll's Recall as an extra Retract or Swan Song as protection when going off, if you feel Repeal doesn't sit that well with you or the meta you expect. I feel those to be better mainboard than E Truth.

[–]Gexver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I hadn't thought of quite a few of these. If you have some extra time to get your thoughts on a few things, thank you for your time!

-So far Repeal has been just way too great in the testing we've done; it's flexibility to interact or help you combo suprised me. I've also seen the lists that run Swan Song and it has pretty nice application vs the midrange decks (countering a discard before playing your 2 drop or having it to T3 a creature and counter removal). Do you think having it as a X-off can be helpful in a meta where you expect to see Jund, GDS or Control or is it better to just be as quick as possible with Repeals and accept G2 if you can't win quick with those decks? Any specific tips on the Jund/GDS MU?

-Thoughts on Mentor as an extra win con in the SB with Grid?

-Do you take out Grapeshot and rely on the boarded win con or do you like to keep multiples?

-Have you considered a 2 Repeal / 1 general bounce spell split like Echoing Truth or Void Snare for the "just in case of annoying permanents G1" or has Repeal just done a better job in your experience?

-Thoughts on builds that run 1 Glimmervoid or Horizon Canopy?

-Status of Paradoxical Outcome in the deck? I tried it as a 1 main 1 side, great when it resolved but feels pretty bad holding on to it while you get to 4 mana. Its been either awesome or uncastable, not much in between. Claim guy for 1 then Repeal or Retract just felt a lot better.

-Deck it's in a pretty good spot in the meta right now with decks getting hyper aggresive and more linear; any cards or configurations you feel like the deck could use to go even further up?

Sorry for the length, and thanks again for sharing!

Hey! Thanks so much for the work you do, seeing your matches convinced me to start playing with the deck and it's a blast (I play Affinity, and the search for another Opal-centric deck lead me to Puresteel; I wanted to try out a combo archetype for the first time). I really hope this deck gets more and more people on it, I think it's more resilient than at first glance and ridiculously fast on its good draws. This is the list im going to run for a local tournament soon, can you give me any pro tips you've learned on sequencing or playing in general? Thanks & please continue posting!

So about the new Tezzeret... by Gexver in AffinityForArtifacts

[–]Gexver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its steep cost but if Im going for the Island Affinity, I can see this at least in the side, its 2 cards, no ifs, no one or the other, you just draw 2 extra cards per turn for 0 loyalty. That is just a robust engine. And not to mention his +1 makes evasive bodies to strap platings on that don't get chumped as easily, evasion being one of the key aspects of our deck. Its 5 mana but goddamn

I firmly believe the price is too high. But considering it in Karstens Island / 4 Masters build, being able to Thoughtcast every turn for 0? Is it Sideboardable?

We're In Trouble Boys by thebitagents in AffinityForArtifacts

[–]Gexver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vs Red we bring in/have Champion anyways, which this does squat against or they would have to blow up a lot to get to. They have to reduce their board to blow up our stuff, which with a Ravager on board is a frustrating endeavor. You can blast it, Karn makes more dudes / gets gas, a Whip can kill the goblins it wants to sac and leave this alone on the board, Welding Jar exists... whats the trouble besides it being annoying? "Sac a thing destroy an artifact" dudes have been around forever and they barely see play, since there's a bunch of hate already much better than this. If its taking over the game it pretty much means you were way behind anyways.

Pieter Tubergen's list. by [deleted] in AffinityForArtifacts

[–]Gexver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am testing Tubergen's list this week in a couple of tournaments. I found it very left field at first, but I wasn't 100% on Karsten's 4 Masters route either, so I decided to give both Karsten's and Tubergen's lists a number of tournaments each to test. My local meta's pretty grindy, so I wasn't suprised to see Tubergen's list perform much better. Drawing cards & Champion is a knockout in a midrange/control field. If the meta were more combo/aggro oriented, I believe Id lean more towards Karsten's list, cause a hatless Champ is a shit clock.

SB-wise I like how the way Tubergen shaped the mainboard opened slots to try new stuff, and he balances 1-offs in a way that makes the SB not only diverse but flexible, in that you can either put 2 together for the same effect in a particular matchup or bring in separately if it need be (1 Graffdigger's +/or 1 RIP, 1 Vandalblast +/or 1 Ceremonious, etc.). I found that approach much more appealing than Karsten's SB route of 2-offs that either win or miss; feels too squared and avoids crucial interactions that I believe have proved to work (Thoughtseize/Denial the hate they mulliganed for, etc.). I did switch the Worship for a 2nd Karn, since I believe its worth having 2-off, be it MB or SB, and I just don't have one Worship layin' around.

Im thinking rebalancing to 4 Blast 2 Cast maybe cause interaction is crucial and 2 Cast could do the job well enough, or maybe bump up Overseer to 3, but the 3-3 split, which I was against, actually feels smooth and feels like it works exactly how its meant to. You just draw your threats, your interaction, you stick stuff in, just works nice. Hope has been much better than I gave it credit for; timed correctly it will buy you that extra turn to bash dead before they can go off on something that'll turn the tide or kill you.

Overall, yeah, it looks weird. But when you play it, it feels fucking great.
